Horrible restaurant. Rude waiter/manager. Mediocre food. Overpriced cocktails and wine. Liars and cheats. When you present a Groupon that you purchased they don’t except them after you paid for them they claim Groupon does not pay them which we found out through Groupon was a complete lie and Groupon’s been trying to contact them for the last several weeks and no one will get back to them at the restaurant because they’re getting complaints as they’re not honoring the Groupon’s. Basically it’s just a way for them to get new customers to come in to the restaurant order their meals their drinks their bottles of wine make money off of them and then screw the customer. This restaurant can go straight to hell and I hope they go bankrupt. Waste your time or your hard-earned money it’s like throwing good money towards bad. Sleep when you can get a far better meal at any nearby restaurant since there are dozens in the same locale

Gallo Nero — was amazing. The owner Rosco was personal, welcoming, and informative. The food was amazing. The waitress made our party of 9 feel welcome and well taken care of. Prices are affordable for the size of the plates and the quality and preparation is really where it’s at. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a taste of Sicily or a good brunch.

I’ve been to many Italian restaurants in the city but this one has been one of my favorites. I started with the classic meatballs as an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked. The sauce was just right. An excellent appetizer. For my entrée I got the stuffed chicken breast with mashed potatoes and spinach. The stuffed chicken was so so so good! Stuffed with mozzarella cheese with the perfect spices. Absolutely delicious. $ 21 seemed steep when I ordered for just a chicken breast but to was absolutely worth it. I then got the crème brûlée for dessert which was absolutely phenomenal. My only complaints were that it was a tad bit too cramped but obviously that means people like it. Also, the bathrooms were extremely strangely tiny and not exactly the cleanest places on earth. A little more attention to those 2 complaints and I would have given this place a 5 star rating! They accept OpenTable so reserve now!

I’ve always had a fantastic visit to this location — it’s been some time since I last visited but I’m certain the food is just as stellar! With one of the longest Wine lists(by the bottle) in NYC — Gallo Nero offers endless selections of outstanding food — they will make it happen, whatever you want. I don’t order off menu, but I’ve seen it done and they comply with ease; a true sense of respect for the GOOD&WILLINGCUSTOMER. I feel bad for them being in such a tourist-driven neighborhood, and the fact that so much entitlement surrounds the idea of a dollar, but I will always return for stellar wine, food and service. Thank you Simona, Brian & Ornela for always providing me with a great time!

Great NY restaurant experience. Tight tables, dark loud atmosphere. The food was excellent especially the meat antipasto and cheese plate, both had great selections. Staff was courteous and not overwhelming. Overall fun dinner.

Wonderful experience all the way around. Friendly staff. Pasta was so fresh it almost melted in my mouth. I ordered(and demolished) the spinach ricotta ravioli. The sauce was so delicious I almost licked the plate. My husband ordered the lasagna which was a good sized portion and also very good.(Although I thought my dish was tastier) Would definitely come back!

Most of the food was actually pretty good(crostini/pizza appetizer was delicious, roasted chicken moist), but some not so good(cabbage that accompanied the chicken was terrible– just tasted like the soaked up grease it was sitting in). Why the one star instead of maybe three or four? An absolutely humiliating experience! Beware using a Groupon! My bill totaled around $ 80 and per the Groupon, I was to have $ 50 to spend. When I presented the Groupon, I was told that I had only spent $ 44 on food and the other $ 35 was on wine, so I couldn’t use the Groupon. When I asked why, they said the alcohol portion couldn’t be covered. After a few embarrassing minutes of back and forth, showing them the fine print only stated«must purchase a food item», they agreed they would let me use the Groupon to take off $ 44, but said I would lose the extra $ 6 because they couldn’t discount the alcohol portion. I told them this was nowhere in the fine print and I would like the full promotional value. Another few embarrassing minutes and finally, he hit«redeemed» and walked away. At this point all four front of house employees gathered around(about 10 feet from us– it’s small restaurant) trying to figure out what to do. Five minutes later they hovered around the reservation system(the screen was facing us, so we could see the whole thing) which had honestly not been used all night, to see if we had made a reservation– sure enough, the one reservation in the system was ours(making a reservation was a requirement in the fine print). Finally, when they realized they couldn’t find any real reasons to deny us the promotional value, the waiter/manager came over and reprimanded us, saying he would go ahead and do it, but the next time we would have to tell him we had a Groupon in advance so they could explain the rules– which he said were that alcohol is NOT covered. I reminded him the rules were right there in the fine print, to please show me where this«rule» was and where was the rule that I had to present the Groupon in advance? He took my phone and searched for at least 3 minutes(which seemed like 20 since now the other tables in the restaurant were staring at us), looking through every link on the Groupon website to prove his point– he found nothing, so he concluded by saying, «well, it does say the rules can change at any time without notice». Are you kidding me? What kind of customer service is that? What had been a lovely evening(the ambiance is nice), with decent food and drink, turned into a shaming, completely uncomfortable experience. I was not asking for anything special. I followed my end of the bargain– make a reservation, at least 2 guests, order a food item– and now, for whatever reason they didn’t want to follow theirs. If they have an issue with the wording of the fine print, that is between Groupon and the establishment, they shouldn’t take it out on the guest. They have succeeded in taking what should be a tool for acquiring new, loyal customers and instead assuring this customer(and anyone I know) will never return. P. S. I still did leave a 20%+ tip on the total un-discounted amount. A different waiter who presented us with the final check was very apologetic and I do realize the waiters are just following policies set forth by the owner. Unfortunately, the apology came way too late.

I visited with groupon which was $ 50. I spent $ 49 with food and drinks extra. They said as their machine doesn’t accept $ 49 with $ 50 groupon and drinks coudn’t be applied(this was also tricky), I had to choose another food… What the… We had to order the $ 10 cheese cake to go. They gave us the table just in front of the door. They didn’t change the table when we asked it was cold to seat there. What the rude… After we waited abt 30min, we asked when the food is comming. They answered that«have you ordered appetizer? The food is not fast food. Need time…» They dare tried to teach me. Bad experience! Food was ok but not excellent. Service for the

After several sub par meals in the city, I craved a good meal. My friend suggested Gallo Nero and she saved the day with this recommendation. It was cool when I visited and the restaurant had the glass doors open so the breeze came through the restaurant. It was a perfect way to have al fresco dining indoors. The staff was prompt and courteous. Although there were a few items on the menu which looked appealing the specials of the night really caught our attention. My friend and I each ordered one so that we could taste both. My friend ordered spinach ravioli stuffed with ricotta with shrimp and a pesto sauce. This was my fave! the handmade ricotta were a good size and stuffed with fresh ricotta. The pesto sauce was creamy and delicious. It was very filling as well. I ordered the fettuccine with crab, artichokes and asparagus in a rosa cream sauce. This dish was very good and nicely flavored. I am not however a fan of canned artichokes because of the vinegary flavor they get after sitting in the brine over time. Also the crab added an essence but there were not any visible pieces in the pasta. They must have used blue crab or crab pieces instead of lump. Even with my small critiques both of the dishes we ordered were great. I would definitely return to this restaurant again in the future!

A little surprise treasure. I stopped by here while waiting to meet my husband and wanted a glass of wine before we headed to our dinner reservations elsewhere. He met me, had a glass of white sangria and decided to cancel the reservation at the other restaurant. We stayed at Gallo because the service was so kind and attentive and the food everyone was eating looked awesome. We always split our meals because for us, there is no point in ordering more food than necessary. We didn’t outright say we’d be splitting but they brought us 2 plates with each order, common sense yes, but you’d be surprised how often that type of inattention is paid, it’s a small service we notice and appreciate. We Began with the shrimp, sundried tomatoes and pesto with mozzarella, so good and plated on a cute wooded board. The Cesar salad was my fave! Fresh, light delicious dressing, I could’ve eaten 2 easily. We finished with a farfalle and scallop pasta which cooked to perfection with a delicious creamy sauce that didn’t overpower the dish. Our impromptu dinner was great. Service? Fantastic! Attentive, knowledgable, friendly! We sat at the bar(because let’s be honest, it’s always better at the bar) and Christian was so great!!! Answered my annoyingly ignorant questions about wine, had recommendations, and really made one of the best espresso martini’s I’ve had(gotta stay awake for the play but don’t want to lose my buzz!) we’ve already decided to make this a weekly visit because we had such a great experience.

There food is very fresh but with that being said make sure you have enough time to eat it! They have amazing lunch specials and great happy hours. I love the female greeter in the beginning she is very friendly. I love the ambiance of the place. They could rip up a few fake flowers in the flower pots it detracts from the real ones. It does take a while to get the check so ask when ur food comes out and bring cash.

Tiny, cozy place in Hell’s Kitchen. Noise level is pretty high since the tables are so close together. I sample different pasta dishes and all were yummy. Carbonara was my fave. We had different breads for appetizer, and they were also pretty good. Three stars for the inattentive service and expensive wine list. Most wines were in the $ 40 — $ 50 range with one or two choices in the upper $ 30s.

Lovely Italian restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen near the Theater District. My friend and I were able to have a delicious meal in just about an hour so that we could make curtain for A DELICATEBALANCE. We started with the mozzarella and tomato appetizer, which was fresh and simple. For main courses, my friend tried the gnocchi and I had a seafood pasta which was delicious. We both cleaned our plates, and the portions were quite big! I would absolutely go back for a pre-show meal!

This place is really cute and romantic, and the service is friendly. I appreciated that they gave us a table even though we were only there for drinks. The wine is pretty expensive at up to $ 14 per glass and bottles $ 40 – 50 minimum, but the glass I did have was very drinkable. The bruschetta plate we ordered unfortunately wasn’t very good; we got the trio which comes with two each of tomato, mushroom, and white bean bruschetta, none of which we liked. Ordering it was confusing in itself — the menu makes it look like each line is it’s own bruschetta, but actually each line describes multiple toasted breads that come together. I tried to clarify this before ordering because some of the combinations seemed to clearly not go together on one piece of bread, but our server insisted insisted they did indeed. Clearly it was a miscommunication, because the trio came out as 3 different types as I’d expected they should have. As I said earlier, the service is very friendly so I can’t complain — just an observation about the menu organization! If there’s a happy hour I’d try this place again for its good wine, atmosphere, and friendly staff. For food, just stick to the bread on the table.
