Sadly, this gym is long gone. It was owned By a man named Victor Alvarez who ran this place for roughly 40 years. Victor made all of his own equipment in the machine shop downstairs and has some commercial pieces as well. The gym was immortalized by Photographer Brian Moss in Universal Nutrition ads featuring Alexander federov as well as the iconic «squat till you puke» animalpak add. The Gym died around the same time as many other NYC institutions such as CBGB’s.

This place is nuts!
So about a decade ago I had a date and we dined at an Italian joint around the corner and upon exiting we decided to take a walk. That walk lead us upon a late night light and the sound of a desk fan, and some odd metal clinking noises coming from an open door with a big potted plant obscuring our view so we decided we must investigate. It was if we walked back in time to the five points with a Coney Island sideshow going on! This place is a museum gym that for some odd reason you CAN workout in, more so it’s just a awesome shithole gym for the odd of society who want to pretend their carnival show strongmen!
