Christian did a great job. He is very meticulous & did a perfect shoulder length cut. The salon is very welcoming (free wine!!!) And convenient. I will definitely come back when I’m in town.

I have been seeing Sebna since 2009, and she is just wonderful. She won my loyalty when she was the first stylist I saw in NYC who actually listened to what I wanted and needed for my hair, instead of pushing an agenda of coloring or layers or whatever. She also gives thoughtful advice when I’m not sure what I want! When I got married 2 years ago I asked her to do my hair for that and of course she did a lovely job and put in a lot of time — the salon actually lost power on the day of my wedding and she went above and beyond to keep our appointment and get my hair styled. My favorite thing about Sebna, though, is just how lovely she is. I feel like I have a real relationship with her. She’s just a great person in addition to being an experienced and highly competent stylist.

I have been going to J Christopher for almost 4 years now. I recommend them to all my friends. I even take my Mom to see him when she is in town! Christian does amazing cuts and colors. I can’t say enough about the ‘family’ that work at this salon. It is a riot. I always look forward to seeing them and getting caught up with them and their lives. Always sweet, welcoming, and I feel like part of the team. Very convenient location. Clean Salon. Love their Matrix products. I have nothing but great things to say about the J Christopher Salon. I am so lucky that I found them when I moved to Manhattan 4 years ago! Thanks Christian… You always make my hair look awesome… I get so many compliments.

I found this salon via Living Social. I needed a keratin treatment and have been having a hard time finding a good one in NYC. Look no further! Chris did my treatment last night and it was one of the, if not the best, I’ve ever had. He was knowledgeable, used great products, and my hair is transformed.
I haven’t had any other services done here but they offer package pricing for most of their standard services and the pricing is phenomenal. Will definitely be back. He and his staff were all really really nice as well.

I’ve been getting my haircut here for the past couple of years with Sebna. She is so sweet and great at what she does. I love going in for my haircuts, she does a fantastic job. I highly recommend her!

I had an amazing experience here. I had several people recommend Luis and saw him for a walk-​in. He is amazing! I had no idea what I wanted and he took the time to talk me through several options and figure out what would work best. The end result was perfect! I can’t wait to go back.

Christian and Luis took my hair from a disaster to fantastic. I needed a major color correction thanks to a botched job from a different salon closer to my apartment. I could not be happier with the results. 10 stars. Lesson learned. Even if I don’t live in the area or soon the continent– Stick with the best. Thanks again guys

I recently ventured into this salon after my stylist at the prior salon I had been going to for over a year quit. I was annoyed and thought I would never find a new stylist that I liked as much as her. However, Luis at J. Christopher Salon was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and outgoing. I am extremely thankful that the receptionist booked my appointment with him and not one of the other stylists. I am happy to have found a new salon and that I decided to book an appointment at this venue. Thank you Luis!

Josh did my haircut and blowout, and it was amazing (I booked via Lifebooker — always use Lifebooker! — so it was also affordable). He did exactly what I wanted, was so much fun to talk to, and spent tons of time blowdrying my (very long) hair so it was super soft and pretty. Three girls stopped me on my way out just to ask who did my hair. Hurray. I also recommend Christian.

Blondes, listen up: If you’re looking for a colorist/​stylist in NYC where you don’t pay an arm & a leg, you need to book an appointment with Kristi today.
First time I went to her was after a breakup & wanted to change my signature blonde into an ombré. Kristi was a little nervous changing my hair so drastically but I basically said just do it however you want, I need to wash that man out of my hair stat (lol) It didn’t come out quite as planned but it looked very natural & I was happy.
When I went back 3 months later, we did a darker, richer ombré with red hues & I loved it — perfect change for the new year! I should also mention that I called for an appointment day of NYE & they made time to fit me in.
I went to a hair stylist in NYC to return to blonde & then a touch-​up in Hoboken after buying a groupon — both experiences were meh, okay but I decided to go back to Kristi. She didn’t make me feel like a bad client for going to another salon & talked me through the whole process. She took her time & I’m so happy with how my color (& cut!) came out.
I initially tried making my appointment through Lifebooker & when I called to check if Kristi was available, the receiptionist said I could book through her and get 30% off. My total bill with tip was $ 200, which included: partial highlights, cut, gloss, blowout AND style (she curled my hair since it was Friday night & I was going out with my girlfriends).
Keep the wine flowing during my appointment & I’ll honestly never go to any other salon in NYC again.

I came to J. Christopher on a Tuesday evening to chop off my stringy hair to something much shorter (I booked it on LifeBooker). The stylist, Josh, was AWESOME. He saw the picture I brought in (Sienna Miller’s «Factory Girl» haircut) and knew immediately how to do it. After some cursory questions («Do you want it any shorter than this? Longer? What about the back?») we went ahead. He was quite chatty, which was fine with me since I was in the mood to talk. The cut was a little bit shorter than I anticipated, but he did do a great job on explaining the type of product I would need to maintain the cut and how to blow-​dry it so I could replicate my post-​visit look. Would I go back again? Sure. He knew what he was doing and was really friendly. It’s a little bit out of my way (I work by Union Square and live on the UWS) but totally worth it to have Josh do my hair again.

I went here for the first time using a lifebooker deal. From the second I set foot in the door the staff (from the receptionist to Josh who washed my hair, to Gina who did the cut) was incredibly friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I knew I wanted a change, and was considering going for the shaved «undercut» style that’s becoming popular now, but I was super nervous about taking such a plunge… My stylist was Gina and aside from being an absolute doll, she was super willing to work with my specific requests and inability to make a decision in regards to the undercut. She did the haircut first, and let me think about whether or not I wanted to do the shave underneath. While she did the cut we chit-​chatted and she was amazing about letting me know what would and wouldn’t work with my hair (which is SUPER thick, and naturally wavy… although I usually straighten it), and she modified the style accordingly. At the end, she blew it out and flat ironed it and let me decide whether or not I wanted to do the shaved piece… with the encouragement and moral support from both Josh and Gina, I decided to take the dive… and let me tell you, i absolutely LOVE it. The amount that she shaved and the placement let’s me show it off if I want to, or hide it completely when I want to be more conservative.
I went back 2 weeks later to have her re-​shave it for me, and she took me last minute and didn’t charge me a thing! (I tipped her obviously, but still! what a sweetheart!)
I will definitely be going back to J. Christopher and will recommend it to my friends who are in need of a really good haircut at a really reasonable price.

After moving to NYC in 2009, I needed to know where to go to get a haircut. I tried a few different places and they were all very expensive or not that good. (And I got some pretty bad haircuts…) I then did what I should have done since the beginning and asked a friend where he goes to get a haircut. He told me that it was about time that I asked him where he goes, as my last few haircuts were embarrassing, and I need to go to J Christopher and get a haircut from Christian. Since then I haven’t stopped going back. The entire staff is very friendly and always go above and beyond. I tell all my friends to go there. BONUS: Check in on FourSquare as they usually have discounts.

I booked an appointment with J. Christopher Salon on life booker and really loved the salon. It was my first time venturing into the city to get a cut and highlight and I definitely do not regret it. Christian did my highlights and was awesome. He listened very carefully to everything I said I didn’t want and even dried one chunk after highlighting it to make sure it was what I wanted. I would highly recommend him as a stylist and the salon was very clean and all the staff was nice and very helpful.

I have gone to J. Christopher many times and I am very pleased with the outcome. Christian is amazing with cutting hair, and J. Christopher is phenomenal with color. I went in with black hair and I left there very blond (like I wanted) just with a full head of highlights. It came out the exact color I wanted. He was very knowledgeable and fast.
My hair always comes out just they way I wanted if not better. I have extremely curly hair and this is one of the only salons I have gone to that have paid close attention to my hair and made sure to treat it with care. They are reasonably priced (they offer discounts on Lifebooker) and the salon is welcoming and relaxing. I recently booked an appointment for this weekend with Christian. I am so excited!

I’m a recent NYC transplant from Los Angeles, and was excited to find a cute salon near my apartment. Christy and the staff we’re great… All up until I went to pay my bill! I was quoted $ 150 for a full head of highlights and a trim. When I went to pay, my total owed was $ 292!!! I damn near had a heart attack. (I was told «They stripped my hair, did a single process on the bottom layers, + a wash and cut»). BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…$ 292 is crazy… You’d think I had just done my hair my Rita Hazan! (Not to mention my hair came out JUST OK… Nothing to brag about… ESPECIALLY considering the price I paid!).
With that said… I’ll be looking for another salon soon… this one is just NOT what it’s prices are cut out for!

I have been a customer at J Christopher for just over a year now. I was new to the neighbourhood and saw that they received great reviews — so I decided to check it out.
First — the people who work there are great. If they ever made a sitcom about a salon, it could be based on this place. Everyone is very warm and inviting and has a great sense of humour. It’s like a big family. So if you like that kind of environment, this is the place for you.
Sebna cuts my hair. I have very complicated hair and she has the skills to tame it. She also has the skills to put up with me (vague requests, weird feedback). Over the past year, Sebna has helped me find a hairstyle that I absolutely love.
Sebna is also great because she is so genuinely nice and loves to chat. If I ever leave NYC, I will definitely miss her.
Brianna — the receptionist/​scheduler — seems to know every one of the customers. Another fantastic thing about JCS is that Brianna (and the stylists) will go out of their way to make sure you get in when you need to. For example, I generally get my hair cut every other Sunday. If I haven’t called for an appointment, Brianna will call and ask if I still want it. They are soooo nice!
You can tell the other stylists are also really good just based on the reaction of other customers. They are also all super nice. Like the Cheers theme song «sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.»
Best of all — prices are very affordable.
