Mobal Communications

I loved using the Mobal SIM card last month while traveling in Europe. It was an excellent alternative to using AT&T who would have charged me $ 129 for a small amount of international usage.
I used the card in my iPhone 6 and it worked without fault. I used it for data, texts and voice in England, France, Spain and Italy.
I will use Mobal again and have recommended to friends :-)

I’d used a company called ROAMLINE for world data SIM card only. LOVED THEM! it was billed in euros so my bills were a bit higher. No biggie since I used so little. Then I found Mobal and saw it was billed in usd. So I thought I’d save some $. But the sim rarely worked. I tried resetting apn I tried moving around to get better signal but it was mostly a bust. I returned to ROAMLINE. I’m sad now they may be out of biz. I hope to find a data only replacement. Mobal may be good in other countries tries but I was USA Germany Austria Switzerland mostly. Spain a few. Just didn’t get good signal. I really hope I don’t have to return.

I am suspicious that those overwhelmingly positive reviews on other sites may be plants by employees because this was the worst cell phone experience of my life. They double charge, and not only that, but they even charge you when THEY, the company, call you, text you, or leave you a voicemail. My friend and I were backpacking in Argentina and it was the worst phone choice ever — any time someone tried to text us, we received 16 duplicates of that same text, and were charged for every single one. When I refused to pay for some of those texts, Mobal went to the extreme of using a collection agency to «hunt» me down for just the $ 30 when I already paid them hundreds of dollars more than I had even expected when I signed up, and all because they give a shit phone. For whatever reason, the phone was unable to dial certain numbers as well. Gosh, all our new Argentinian friends were laughing at us for falling for a scam (it’s not technically a scam but it was a really traumatizingly bad situation which made me feel stupid as if I had fallen for a scam). We should have gotten a cheap $ 10 cell phone and bought a cheap rechargeable SIM card in Argentina. I’ve learned my lesson and I hate Mobal for almost ruining my whole trip. Please don’t make the same mistake that I did. They are an awful company and they will suck as much money as they can out of you.

When you have spoken to two «tech suppport» iondividuals and neither has ever used the phone personally, in my opinion that is «untrained tech support» plain and simple.
Regarding rental of a satellite phone for a 20 day trip in Africa, here is an email that I sent to Mobal on 6÷26÷12:
«I have had awful customer support re renting this sat phone (at a cost starting at $ 300!).
First I sent emails asking whether I could try out the phone prior to my start date since I received the phone early. The first response was nonsense, then I replied with a further question and got no response for more than a day.
Next, today, I spent several hours trying to sort out how to use the voice mail feature of the phone.
THIS DOES NOT WORK AS INDICATED IN THE MANUAL– the manual states that you will get a message or indicator showing that you have received a voice mail– instead, I get an indicator or message showing that I have a text message, and the content of the message is simply the number 881 662 900 000. This is apparently the cue that you have a voice mail! (According to your second tech support individual).
If that is really the best way it can be set up, it should state that in the manual!
Neither of the two tech support individuals I spoke to had ever used an Iridium 9555! I was told that someone who was more familiar with the phone would call me back– nobody ever did.
This is horrible customer support and I will be posting my opinion on review sites.»
They may be no worse than other large communications providers, but in my opinion they’re surely no better!

I bought their international SIM card in Japan, strange to pay for it in addition to pay as you go. Perhaps my terrible coverage was due to my handset but this does not act as an excuse for the limited customer service who does not always answer the phone during normal business hours, not able to find my account, and ridiculous return policy that gives you 10 days to send a SIM card halfway around the world. Shipping cost is equivalent to the amount I paid to use the SIM
