So I work right across the street and always thought it was that sweet pie shop with the pecan pies with the smiley faces. I like pecan pie and I like smiley faces, but since I can’t eat gluten or dairy I never even bothered to walk in because I knew I’d just be disappointed. My friend told me about this place and how they have vegan pizza, and I was like ?? what ?? So of course, I went here after work for dinner. I walked in and asked for the gluten free and vegan pizza. The cashier immediately warned me that the gluten free dough wasn’t vegan. I’m not vegan, I just can’t have dairy. The crust has eggs. That’s fine with me! So I ordered the black olive and onion vegan pizza with gluten free crust, and I added vegan cheese for $ 4. Yikes, but what’s pizza without cheese?! Dude, it came out to $ 20 for a personal pie. I was shocked. That’s so pricey! At least I thought so at first. My chubby sweets loving self coughed up another $ 4 for a gluten and dairy free chocolate chip cookie as well, which was really soft and yummy. Anyway, the pizza came out and I automatically rolled my eyes because the crust was so thin. It looked like the pizza you get for free at a nearby bar, but loaded with toppings. Whatever. I gave it a chance anyway. AND I AMSOGLADTHAT I DID because it was amazing. It was delicious, it tasted like normal pizza, and it was so filling because of all the toppings! I actually couldn’t even finish it all. HONESTLY, LOOKSREALLYCANBEDECEIVING! I will 100% spend $ 20 on another pizza here, I actually have plans to come back here with a friend in a couple days. The cashiers are friendly, they have a lot of board games that I’m really excited to play, and they serve wine and beer. I want to take away a star because of the price, but the food and service was so good that I’ll just be nice and give 5 stars. After all, dietary restrictions are pricey, so it’s to be expected.

Best gluten free crust I have ever tried! Delicious for both the gluten and non gluten free eater. Staff is very welcoming and the atmosphere is fun. We played connect 4 while dining, but there are also tons if other games to choose from. Highly recommended.

We LOVE this place! I’m vegetarian and my husband is gluten free. PIe By The Pound has AMAZING gluten free dough! Our fav is the garden pizza! Yummy red wine and g-free beer too. Oh, so delicious! So good we went home the next night to recreate what we ordered! Wonderful joint. Excellent staff and super comfy environment. Don’t miss having a slice! Go!

So I came back after 2 days of getting onions on a pizza that was supposed to have ZERO onions as I am allergic. The garden pizza has no onions listed anywhere… at all. I called ahead. Told them about the mishap 2 days ago and ordered the same garden pizza and begged them to make sure there were zero onions as I am allergic. They told me 15 – 20 minutes. I came to get it. Guess what?! It has ONIONS!!! Really? After all of that? I give up. Would seriously think a place that specified themselves around and catered to food allergy/disease would get it. I mean I begged the girl that answered to triple check after the mishap yesterday. Really ???

Good quality pizza but nothing particularly special. Not intending to go bask umpires unless I need to meet someone there for some reason.

I came because of the good reviews, and was really disappointed. There was only one vegan option, so I could not take the Sample deal, which includes a free drink, as the samples must be taken from different pies. Whatever. The problem was that the pizza itself was not good — it did not feel like a pizza with vegan cheese, but rather like a pizza with no cheese at all. And the other ingredients were not that exciting either. A real disappointment. On a happier note, the staff was very nice, and the [non-vegan] chocolate chip cookies are superb.

The best gluten-free pizza in Manhattan! I’m not gluten-free because I’m healthy, I’m gluten-free because I have to be(allergy). This pizza tastes like real pizza. It’s so good! Crust is light and crisp with the perfect ratio of sauce/cheese. Meaning, there is cheese. Enough to make you remember what real cheesy pizza used to taste like. Unlike some gf pizzas that are sparse with the cheese or soggy with the crust. The ingredients are natural/fresh. You can eat an entire pizza without feeling gross afterwards. And I do. Often. Followed by a glorious gf chocolate chip brownie. So glorious, my sisters non-gluten-free boyfriend stocks up on them every visit. The environment is pizza parlor meets eclectic coffee house. I love the diversity and chill of the crowd. Groups of people laughing. Some on laptops. Others reading magazines from the racks. There is a wide variety of wine, gf ciders and beers. Interesting brands — some I’ve never heard of. The owner/manager is highly knowledgeable about about the selections and takes time to talk to customers, ask their opinions on new drinks they’re trying. It’s awesome. We love this place. You will too!

This review is long overdue. My dad introduced me to this place when I was out-of-state, and now that I’ve moved back to NYC I frequent here. I love the atmosphere. The board games are definitely a nice touch. My favorite pizza is their fresh mozzarella. Don’t be discouraged by the thin pizza or the prices. If you’re not sure what to get, they do offer deals to try 3 or 5 different slices at a time. Also, they have tons of beers available. Super friendly staff! The owner/manager tends to come around on occasion and say hello, and peek in on people to make sure they’re enjoying themselves.

Great gluten free pizza and cider! My friend was in heaven. I got the white pie and was able to save for three different meals. Delicious! And the restaurant is cozy with a movie playing in the front, free board games, magazines, and books. It was a nice place to chill while the temperature kept dropping outside. Can’t wait to go back

I was so happy to find gluten free vegan pizza, that tastes decent… ordered 10.5″ Gluten-Free Zucchini Pie $ 19.45 kind of up there in price and even though there where scarcely any veggies on top, decided to try again and ask for a little more topping. ** Pizza came cold and with less veggies than last time When I put in a complaint was told that this is their style and would add a bit more next time… this was the next time. Honestly to me good customer would be, sorry about that, we will give you some credit towards your next order…

I’m not the biggest fan of thin crusted pizza but I wouldn’t rule it out either. I’m not picky like that. Pie By The Pound has actually a yummy thin crust and it’s awesome that they have gluten free options. It’s not your typical New York pizza but it is pretty good. I will say that the menu was slightly confusing. I got the Snow White and didn’t realize it didn’t have tomato/margherita sauce since it only lists the ingredients that it has(I know, it sounds pretty simple), but I guess I thought it was an unspoken thing for pizzas to have the sauce? Just know that if you’re going to be eating/ordering form here that the ingredients are straightforward like that. Anyways, the pizza was not bad! It tasted kind of like a garlic naan with cheese. I’ll definitely want to try something else next time — the other options look delicious as well!

I really like this place. First of all, I love thin crusted pizza and thats what they have here. My friend And I ordered 12 different slices. And then there are board game which makes it a great social hang out Place. Service: great service! The owner approached us and asked if we wanted the rest of our slices warmed up since we were there for a while.

Best gluten free pizza in the city! They have an option I always used to get where you get three small slices of your choice with the choice of a drink for only $ 6! If you’re looking for great pizza that’s gluten free, and has thin crust, this is the place!

Pizza meets healthy? I guess that’s what this place looked like to me. Non-greasy pizza but rather thin crust without sacrificing the flavor. Stopped in one evening and was overwhelmed with all the different pizza offerings on display. They weren’t labeled so I had to ask what each was. I feel bad asking when it might look obvious so I think little signs would be helpful. Ended up going with a salami and arugula pizza. They ask you what size you want and based on that it is weighted and priced. My total with a canned soda was about $ 7. Not a bad deal at all for NYC. This is a quick-service type of place so one you have your slice you can sit wherever you like to enjoy it. You can place larger pizza orders as well. Overall a very nice staff and good pizza. Would recommend this to everyone, especially those who have food allergies or prefer vegetarian options.

Really good thin crust pizza. And it’s cool how you can tell them exactly how much you want, so you can try all the different varieties. The fresh cube was interesting — like fresh bruschetta pizza on a crispy cracker. Manager is super friendly and engaging with customers — like genuinely wants you to love their place and concept. Staff is attentive and helpful. Place is kept clean. Ambiance is casual. Come and enjoy some cheap eats and catch up with friends.

This is by far the best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had! …and I’ve had a ton! I originally came in for the ham and cheese sandwich, as GF sandwiches can still be pretty hard to come by. The sandwich was everything I’d hoped for and more, pure perfection! Then, the owner Jeffrey surprised us with a GF pizza to try, and I was absolutely floored! No description can do this GF pizza justice… just go here!!! The restaurant itself is super cool while still low key(there’s tons of board games, retro movies playing, GF books & mags, etc), the staff(and owner!) are incredibly friendly and make you feel so valued and appreciated, and the food is, well, out of this world! I’m already thinking about when I can get back there before the end of my NYC trip!

Just meh. I’m sure for gluten free it’s amazing judging by the reviews, but for traditional pizza, there are much better options in the neighborhood. Motorino, Nonna’s or Joe’s are much better if you’re on the evil gluten train. This pizza was just way overpriced and underwhelming compared to similar brick oven pizza. I like thin crust but this crust was way too thin, and the staff clearly have not figured out how to cook it right. One of the pizzas in the display case had a crust that was completely black, it was insulting that they decided not to throw it away.

Quite possibly the best of my neighborhood favorites. I’ve discovered a lot of great local spots since moving to the east village, but nothing better than the four slice sampler and drink combo – so many different pies to choose from.(My favorite is basically any combination with ricotta cheese). Super friendly to those who are gluten-free – they’ll make you a whole pie! Also, a very interesting and well-rounded selection of ciders chosen personally by Jeff, the owner, who is gluten free himself. Further plus, they have an abundance of board games, so feel free to bring a crowd for game night.

Ordered for delivery and later received a call to double check on order. Great. Was give an ETA of 30−45mins. Great. Waited for a little more than an hour. No food, Not cool. I called and after a couple of minutes of waiting I was told there had been a misunderstanding in the kitchen and the order would be On-the-house and sent Asap. This was disappointing considering how hungry we were. The kind of hungry that leads you to have no energy to just walk out and get yourself a flippen’ sandwich! When the Pizza Pie did arrive it did not disappoint. It tasted fresh thanks to the razor-thin lemon slices. The Salad was plentiful and oh so fresh! yAynesss: D Who knows what happened in the Kitchen but their costumer service was GREAT. So they got me. yum yum yum

Loved this pizza. All varieties are tasty, crust is never overwhelming, just crunchy enough, and the sauce is spot on. Really appreciate the vegan and vegetarian options! Love the sample option too! The guys behind the glass are equally great, always patient, and friendly.

I can still taste the crunchy thin crust gluten free pizza with mushroom & eggplant, no cheese, piping hot tomato sauce. I think I’ve gone to pizza heaven. I lick my fingers clean and have dreamy looking eyes as I sit in my seat, total bliss. That’s what I experienced at Pie By the Pound. Since I can’t have gluten(i.e. no wheat based products), pizza has been ruled out. I haven’t taken a bite in years. But that changed when my friend told me about this gluten free pizza place. One word of caution vegan gluten free friends, there is a little bit of egg in the pie crust, for binding purposes. As a vegan, I made a very rare exception to have it. A personal pizza is too much for one person, in my opinion, and it can be shared by 2 not starving eaters. If you’re starving, ask your friend to get his/her own. I would theoretically deduct a star for the egg in the gluten free pie crust, but the owner, Jeffrey was so friendly and welcoming when I went in that the star is not deducted! I already have plans to return with some friends. It’s pizza time!!! I should mention that they have lots of board games so if you’re a gaming geek, then you can have pizza and play. Too cool.

Highest quality well priced pizza I’ve had in the city. They have long thin crust pizzas with a variety of ingredients. You choose your pizza and how much of it you would like, and, as the name implies, they weigh it to determine the price. They have a nice little selection of beers to enjoy with your pizza, many of which are gluten free. I always bring my friends that can’t eat gluten here and they love it! They also have board games you can play with the company you bring. Too many pizza shops sell greasy, overpriced slices with creepy semi conjealing cheese that can hardly pass for mozzarella. You can also have your own pizza made, which is what I do because I’m lactose intolerant(although I do indulge in the occasional cheese plate, I avoid it when I can). I highly recommend coming here, it’s not very obvious so people often miss it.

I ordered delivery here and I was quite impressed with their pizzas. Different from their in-store service where you can buy different slices by the pound, you can only buy whole pies via delivery. The small is quite big and definitely feeds 2 people. Majority of their small pies are $ 13.95 each. I ordered the prosciutto ricotta, which includes Mozzarella, Ricotta, Prosciutto, Tomato Sauce, and Arugula. It was very tasty and not heavy at all. You can enjoy more of the savory toppings on top of the crunchy thin crust pizza. YUM! I usually prefer a thick soft crusted pizza, but I really didn’t mind without it as the proportion of the crust to toppings was perfect! Prices are a bit steep for pizza, but I’d definitely recommend this spot, especially to low carb and gluten-free eaters!

I came here for a late lunch here on a weekday. I am vegan and gluten free and was really craving some pizza, so I came out here since I was in the neighborhood. The gluten free pizzas are not available by the slice and you actually have to order a whole pie. The staff was really friendly and greeted me as I came in. They also offered to do two different types of pizzas — each being half of the pizza that I was ordering(that’s pretty good since I don’t know a lot of places that would do that). I ordered one half as the veggie marinara and the other half as the mushroom and eggplant and I got daiyya cheese added on top. A couple of things about the pizza, it was delicious when I had it there — when its all warm from the oven. The other thing I liked about the pizza is that even though I asked to add daiyya cheese on top, they used it sparingly and not covered it with cheese so that it is a greasy mess. That being said, I give it a 3 star because since I had to order the pie I couldn’t eat the entire thing there and had the rest taken away. But it tasted terrible cold — horrendous, it honestly tasted like I was eating raw dough. Even when I warmed it in the oven the following day, it had this really gummy texture to it. Personally, I was a bit disappointed with the pizza.
