Revolve

Revolve is fine. I put it in my classpass rotation but am never dying to go back. The music is good and the instructors are energetic. However, there really is nothing special or unique about the class or the studio. Each time I have been there has been a bunch of empty bikes which brings down the energy of the class.

I am a loyal Flywheel fan, but also love a good theme ride, so I was inspired to sign up for Charley’s Guns N Roses vs. Van Halen ride today through ClassPass. Charley was excellent — GREAT playlist, so nice and welcoming and a very solid instructor. I enjoyed the class very much. I didn’t find the room to be too cramped as other people have mentioned. The sound level of the music was perfect. Charley was kind of hard to hear but I don’t think he was wearing a mic. The front desk staff was not particularly friendly or welcoming but I know that’s a challenge at 7am. I will be back to ride with Charely again for sure. Next week is Coldplay vs. Beyonce which sounds fun — and he takes requests!

This studio seemed really cramped. Since the locker room in co-​ed there aren’t a lot of places to change if you are female. I got into the spin room to see that the bike I was assigned still had shoes on it from the person who had using in the last class. I’m not sure why, could they not remove them when they were cleaning the machine?
So I got a bike in the next row back, this wasn’t a problem but could have if someone had been assigned that bike. The back row of bikes was so close to the wall that I had difficulty doing some of the arm movements. I was worried that I was going to bump into the person next to me as well during the arm part. I’m not sure why the bikes were so tightly packed when half were empty.
Lastly this is a minor complaint but if the class is themed «girl bands» why were there so many non-​girl bands and male artists singing? ugh

Love these spin classes! They’re always a good time — music is right and energy is there. The classes are challenging and don’t put too much emphasis on your scores etc like swerve and flywheel do. Only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because they often host these special rides with a sponsor (swag!)but there is always a photographer there snapping away as we cycle. Not only is it distracting, I’m just not happy w my photo being taken and posted in internetland when I’m looking like a sweaty beast.

They do a good theme ride — recently took a Bruce Springsteen vs. Billy Joel that was was a nice alternative to the standard EDM/​pop/​rap music.
However, the studio is mediocre — I hit it up Revolve when my usual ClassPass studios are booked out and I want to get a last-​minute morning spin class in. The locker room is a nightmare and you have to slip out of the class early to get in one of the two showers before a line forms out the door. Would bump up my rating if the shower situation wasn’t horrific

Went to Revolve for the 2^nd time hoping my 1^st experience was a fluke, but took it off my Class Pass favorites list on my way out the door. I think this place is just not my style – I know people that love it, and even as I nearly walked out in the middle of class I could clearly see the people around me were totally into their workout. Just not for me.
Facilities: First, the check-​in area is nice and the upstairs benches to wait on are great — it’s less of mess getting in and out of the spin room as other studios I’ve been to. The remaining facilities, however, are a disappointment. The coed locker room area is a hot mess to get in and out of — understandably small in a NYC studio but it seems especially challenging here.
Spin Room: The room is cramped — bikes are packed in closer than other studios I’ve been to (with the exception of SoulCycle). But what really gets me is the total lack of ventilation. There are a few small fans high up on the walls that do nothing but taunt me, and otherwise there is zero air flow. So it’s unbelievably hot, humid, and smells of people. Most studios do get incredibly hot and nasty after all those riders start pedaling, but here I start sweating just sitting down on the bike. I feel like I’m swimming through my workout.
Bikes: The standard Schwinn spin bikes are equipped with monitors to show RPM, but they don’t stay lit. In the VERY dark room, that leaves you 2 choices: push the button to light your screen every few minutes (causing a bright green glow to illumiate your section of the room), or do what I’ve observed many riders here do… ignore the screen altogether.
Instruction: Finally, the instruction isn’t my thing. This is the only studio where you have to stop pedaling to do the upper body weights section — but they don’t explain why. So I’m racing along with my heart rate at a nice solid number, then stop pedaling. Full stop. This feels pretty awful, actually. And if you keep pedaling super slowly they snap at you. There’s also not much «choreography» to the rides in terms of touch backs, push-​ups, etc. (which I’m fine with) but somehow they make what could feel more like a «real» ride incredibly monotonous and boring. Seated 75 RPM… up in 3^rd for a 30 second sprint at 80… Then 15 seconds at 85… Then repeat 40 times. Yay!
I think Revolve fits a certain spin style perfectly. If you like a structured interval-​style ride and just want to disappear in a very dark room, close your eyes, zone out to the music, and sweat your heart out… this could totally be your thing. If not, continue on your search for your perfect studio.
Spin studio’s I’ve visited: Flywheel, Peloton, SoulCycle, Cyc, Swerve, Crank, 360, FlowCycle, PNT, BFX.

As far as spin studios go, this one is just fine. Staff is nice, location is convenient, locker room area is cramped (do we need so many lockers? There’s only one class going on at a time anyway) but overall space is pretty good. the actual spin studio itself is tiny and average. I took Blake’s class and I appreciated that he was a stickler for safety, and had a good playlist. Overall, something about Revolve’s vibe doesn’t totally click with me (I’m more of a Monster and Peloton devotee) but it may be ok for you.

Spin is not my favorite exercise*, but I try to go to a class at least once a week, and without a doubt this little studio is my favorite. I like that the instructors motivate you, without judgement. If I am feeling weak or worried they always have a smile to give or an encouraging thing to say. I love that if I am feeling particularly strong one day I can make my bike harder or if I’m sore I can make it a lighter ride and they don’t berate me for it (which has happened at other studios!). My favorite instructor is Charley! His Friday 8am class is a staple of my ClassPass experience and his playlists are my FAVORITE! This may not be the fanciest or largest of studios, but it’s definitely the friendliest.
*I am at the beginning of my «fitness journey» and Revolve is a great studio for beginners/​body positive people!

Ive been to all the spin studios in the city, paying $ 2 for shoes doesnt phase me, neither does the fact that the physical lockers are co-​ed (showers and bathrooms are women and men only, respectively so its all good).
The facility is nice, the rip ride was enjoyable, and my teacher jonathan had some good tunes. Was the playlist a 100% hit for me? No, about 70% but everyone has to play around with the instructor style they like best. Really great workout, and convenient for me location wise for classpass. Id say give it a try!

I have been coming to Revolve for 6 months now and realized I definitely need to review. One disclaimer: I have only ever taken Nicky’s Tuesday 6:00 AM Body Ride class. But that class is AWESOME and I’m always bummed when I run out of my 3 through Classpass.
Here’s the thing, if you’re obsessed with metrics and tracking your rides, you might not like this. I have done BFX, Flywheel, Peloton, but I always come back to Revolve because it is fun and energizing and I feel strong and awesome afterwards.
I often don’t look at the monitors on these bikes (which don’t stay lit up, which again I like, but could drive you crazy) and instead I just bike my little heart out to the music. I LOVE the music Nicky plays– its a good mix of old and new and always awesome to get into. The best part is that she perfectly syncs the songs to the ride, so you don’t ever need to look at your monitor as long as you’re keeping the beat. This allows me to just get into the ride and not obsess over numbers.
This is a great class and a great workout. You won’t find fancy stadium-​seating, light shows, or techno music, but if you want a great ride and a boost to your mood, check it out.
Oh– and $ 2 for shoes and free filtered water to fill up your bottle? No issues there.

Methinks not.
I am used to the «Soul» method so this kind of class wasn’t my thing. It was obvious why it wasn’t booked on a Saturday morning. If you are more into tradition road riding this might be your place, but here are my problems with it.
1. The teacher only played 2 – 3 current songs, and the rest were from 2004 and older. Boring.
2. I got yelled at for moving my legs while doing weights (Which is a better workout…)
3. Absolutely no variation in choreography. Boring.
4. The bikes are Schwinn but seem old or purchased as «used.»
I am making it a point to try all of the studios this summer but I know I won’t be back to this one. Sorry!

I can now say I’ve tried enough spin studios in the city to know a good one from an okay one, and Revolve is a good one.
I walk out of this class dripping sweat and really feel as though the instructors push you to your max. The music tends to be «just okay». I did a themed ride there for the first time this morning and it wasn’t as fun as I expected it to be (compared to a Soul Cycle themed ride) but it was still an awesome workout. I will agree with some other reviewers that I’ve had problems with the monitor that shoes your RPM. Twice now I’ve set myself up on a bike only to start peddling and realize my monitor wasn’t working and have to switch bikes. It is slightly annoying to feel like you’re starting the class behind everyone else.
Maybe I can only get into these classes via ClassPass at odd times, but I feel like the classes are always half empty which is nice as a rider because the pressure is off, but it concerns me for the studio’s sake.
You don’t need to bring your own lock and the showers (only two) are usually available. The entire locker area is tiny, but it gets the job done. They offer the essentials like deodorant, q-​tips, a blow dryer.
I average coming here about once a week and I will definitely continue to do so. Check it out!

Really disappointed with my terrible first experience here. Came here through classpass a few weeks back on a Wednesday evening (I was doing a one-​week trial of Classpass) for the 730pm Girl Power class.
I got there maybe 15 minutes early and was surprised at how crowded it was, both in the waiting area and in the locker room. I could barely pass by people to find an open locker and change. Also, the locker room is co-​ed, which I hadn’t known. Right as I had finished up changing, a guy walked right past me, in the locker room, to get to the men’s bathroom… yeah I’m not a fan of this setup.
Then the real kicker — I get into the class and find that the bike I was assigned to wasn’t actually in the room. What. The front desk told me they removed it to put a fan in (but then apparently forgot???). They brought it in as the class was starting so I already felt behind. Then it turned out that the metrics on my monitor weren’t working — they were changing rapidly and at times it was saying I was doing over 200 RPM, um no. I’m no cycling expert but I know that’s just a tad bit unrealistic.
I told the front desk afterwards and they checked it and apologized. I asked if I could try a free class in the future to get the real experience and they agreed to it. It was also nice that the manager personally emailed me afterwards to apologize for the mistake.
I’ll definitely give it another chance and take the free class, and I did appreciate the staff’s willingness to help/​make it up to me. Then again, I agree with many other reviews on the disadvantages of this place compared to other cycling studios (monitors that don’t stay lit up, older-​feeling schwinn bikes, $ 2 shoe rental, small size/​crowdedness). Flywheel and Peloton are currently my favorites, and they both more or less win out on most of those elements — newer bikes, free shoes, etc. We’ll see how my next experience is.

I don’t «gym», so when I joined ClassPass I wanted to make sure I would actually enjoy the studios I took classes at.
Funny thing is, I never learned how to ride a bike. I decided to take part in spin because of friends & the fact it’s apparently supposed to make your booty pop, lol.
Nevertheless, Revolve’s Body Ride (with Nicky K — she’s the tits) was the first fitness class I have ever taken. From beginning to end she supported and pushed everyone to make sure they were not only getting the appropriate work out, but they also felt good about the level of effort they had given. Additionally, the playlist was dope + her routine was spot on.
Had I not been limited to 3 visits per studio, I would be at Revolve every other day.

This spin studio is decent and I always get a good workout but compared to the other studios in the area I don’t see the benefit of choosing Revolve. A few thoughts:
–It really, really bothers me that they charge you to rent spin shoes ($ 2). All of the competing studios include them in the class (or don’t require them) so why go here?
–The studio has also had a lot of instructor turnover in the last year (since I’ve been trying out studios via classpass) so it’s hard to get behind any instructors (or the studio in general) since my favorite instructors left for other nearby studios.
–The bikes show you your RPM (which the instructor keeps referring to) but the screen keeps going black and you have to manually light it up every time you want to look. This can get annoying.

ahhh how is it that I’ve been coming here for nearly a year and am just now getting to writing a review?!
I will begin with the nitty gritty — the facilities here aren’t as fancy as other competing studios. the classroom itself is quite small and the bikes are really, reaaaallllly jammed in there (so I hope you’re not shy!). in addition, accoutrements are priced «a la carte» for most students (basically, bring your own cycling shoes and water or pay to rent/​buy!). this is not a real issue for me as I own my own cycling shoes and have reusable bottles up to my eyeballs, but since the bikes don’t offer sneaker cages, I recognize that the $ 2 shoe fee is a turn off for some.
other than that, your experience and satisfaction here depends heavily on the instructors you choose and whether or not you form a relationship or connection with their energy. I began taking classes here with Robin, who’s since moved on to other studios (and who I’ve followed!) and then Jason Tran (who has also migrated and is amazing and worth following). nowadays I basically will only train with Jonathan or Blake and prefer only to take the 60 minute rip rides (two weight segments and extra endurance training!)
if you can find good chemistry with an instructor here, you’ll love it! just approach each class with an open mind and remember how privileged we are to have so many fabulous options for fitness in this city.

I attended a «Real Ride» class with Ara and while I enjoyed the class and got a good workout, I think there are several things that could have been improved upon:
1) They charge ClassPass users $ 2 to rent shoes, even though they are included in the price for walk-​ins or regular class members. Obnoxious.
2) The bikes are really packed in so everyone is basically on top of each other.
3) Ara was very focused on riders obtaining a certain RPM — which I like — but she kept turning out the lights so it was hard to see the RPM readings on the bike monitors. The monitors have back lights but they only last a few seconds before automatically turning off.
4) The locker rooms are poorly laid out. There is a huge area of co-​ed lockers, but then the actual bathroom/​shower facility is incredibly tiny. The women’s room had two showers and two toilets, with barely any room to change. Given that the class was about 43 women and 2 men, I found it strange that they made such a huge locker area but then made the women’s changing area so tiny. They did have C.O. Bigelow toiletries in the showers, which I appreciated.

I came to Revolve by way of ClassPass. Spinning is my main source of cardio and I take classes 2−3x a week. I am trying to mix it up though and branch out beyond Flywheel and Peloton, my two favs.
Revolve is just okay. Its irritating to have to pay $ 2 for a shoe rental. Their classes are normally $ 29 each, so its not as if these are cheaper classes that don’t come with the bells and whistles. No free water either but there was a water fountain. They do not allow you to wear sneakers, you HAVE to have spin shoes or you can’t ride.
The facility is pretty nice. The locker rooms are down stairs and the locker area itself is co-​ed but there is a separate bathroom for men and women which includes 2 showers and a very tiny changing area. I can’t imagine how crazy this must get during morning classes when most people are showering before work. The lockers seemed a bit complicated at first but I think they probably hold up better than the electronic lockers at some of the other studios. You don’t need to bring your own lock.
The class itself was good, not great. The room is pretty small and I was assigned to a bike that was perpendicular to the rows of bikes in the back of the room so a woman in the front row basically had me in her line of vision the entire ride. Although I didn’t think about it much once the class started, I just felt the arrangement of the room was kind of awkward. Music was good and I liked that the room would go completely dark during sprints. Blake was my instructor and he was encouraging and fun.
The bikes are Schwinn bikes but seem old. The monitor on it for your RPM does not have a light that stays on so when the room lights are dimmed or dark, you have to press a button to see your stats and then it goes off about 10 seconds later. This is incredibly useless.
I will come back to Revolve but it won’t be in my heavy rotation on CP.

I’ve tried several spin studios through Classpass (Flywheel, Studio 360, AQUA) and Revolve was my least favorite. I found the seats from the bikes to be incredibly uncomfortable — my bottom was sore the next day from just sitting on it!
I also think it’s not cool when places start charging you every little thing after you’re paying a considerable amount for the class without Classpass. Revolve charges you for the shoes and for the water. Really?
While I did really enjoy the music, my instructor’s microphone was way too loud. Also when I didn’t want to stay in the saddle because my bottom was hurting, she directly said to me «DOWN!!» as if I didn’t have a choice if I wanted to be in the saddle or not. She also told the class that she’s not afraid to call out people by name. I felt like I was a little kid in a class and the teacher was getting me in trouble. The facilities seemed clean overall but I still don’t think I will be returning to Revolve.

Did not love.
Co-​ed locker rooms means that before/​after class there are a ton of girls changing in a tiny bathroom. Showers are small and do not feel clean. Same goes for the bathroom floor.
I had gone into class early and adjusted my seat /​put my water and towels on the bike. I had to run to the bathroom before class started and when I came back, someone else was on my bike. I asked her if that was her reservation and she responded that the woman who had been leading people in instructed her to sit there. I get that if you’re late you might have to give up your bike, but given that there were a bunch of other bikes that were empty/​had not been adjusted/​did not have water and towels on them, wouldn’t you think it would make more sense to put someone there first?
Also, on my way in, I saw a sign that said no phones and it was my mistake that I brought it in anyway. However, as someone that is always a little bit wary of lockers that don’t use my own lock, I have brought in my phone to most studios and never had a problem. I don’t use it during class and usually place it well out of the way (i.e. on the floor, behind my water, etc). I had placed it on my bike this time and the lady walked in and said I’m going to have to take that. I almost considered leaving right then, and probably would have had there been another class I could take nearby.
Bikes are also really close together. When doing weights or sitting up and stretching I kept knocking into the bike behind me. Workout was decent. I couldn’t really tell how to use the monitor though and so could only see RPMs when I pressed the light button.
The class I attended had a live dj, which was an interesting addition. I do think it made the class more fun/​motivating. Overall, however, there are way too many spin studios in the city with better amenities and customer service that this one fell far below expectations. Not great for somewhere in Manhattan.
