Came here around 9:15 on a Saturday night before embarking downtown. My friend suggested the place, and I promised him that I wouldn’t furiously research it on Unilocal beforehand. So I was pleased to find that Gael Pub was actually quite the nice spot! Which was fortunate, because I ended up waiting here alone for about 45 minutes. Walking in, you’ll immediately notice how loud it is. This might have been a weekend night phenomenon, but the music was blasting and many a-woo girl(HIMYM) boisterously mingled near the back of venue. One nice thing about this bar is the general layout. The front area has a bunch of small tables for dining, the very sizable bar area spans the middle of the establishment, and then there’s room for more lively festivities in back. So while it was on the loud side, the rowdier folks were at enough of a distance that it wasn’t irritating in the slightest. I only got positive vibes from the atmosphere here. This was actually one of the best experiences I’ve had sitting alone while waiting for someone to arrive. The bartenders here are just plain awesome. This could have easily been a 3-star experience, but the interaction with patrons here is just lovely. NOT creepy or condescending, I should add. I’ve certainly seen that elsewhere. As I sat down to watch the end of the baseball game, one of the bartenders, Niall(I assume that’s how he spells it given he’s from Ireland), introduced himself to me and shook my hand. We made small talk for a while before I ordered my first drink, which helped to pass the time. It ended up being quite serendipitous, because my parents are going to Ireland at the end of July, so I asked for a brief Ireland synopsis from a native. The gist: if my parents are going for two weeks, they will most likely see all that there is to see in Ireland. Good to know. Just a note on drinks: A little bit more than the standard bar setup. The cocktails aren’t anything special, but I had one which was nice and refreshing, which was all I could ask for on a hot summer night. They have a pretty decent beer selection as well(Delirium Tremens was on tap, a personal favorite), so there’s something for everyone.

Love this little place! The Irish bartenders are very cute and cousins. The drinks are mixed well, Rory makes a great skittle shot. The patrons here are fun too, lots of chill guys!

Went here tonight sat down at the bar with the wife. I ordered a draft beer for myself and a Baileys on the rocks for the wife. I got a beer that was flat and tasted sour and the wife got a knock off Baileys that wasn’t Baileys. I asked for the check and left. The bill said Baileys 9.00 dollars and below it it said«on the rocks 2.00»…so apparently they charged two dollars for ice. I won’t be back… So many other options in the neighborhood that sell fresh beer from clean taps and real Baileys.

Came here with my friend last Saturday around 4PM. We were looking for a casual spot to grab a couple drinks before heading to the Met. This task proved to be very difficult in that area of the city. We luckily stumbled upon Gael Pub and were pleasantly surprised by their excellent selection of Belgian beers. They also have a beer long table in the back which would be really fun for pregaming with a big group of friends. Would definitely come back here again if in the area.

I really hate Irish Pubs in general, but I had a fun night here! I came with a friend for trivia, and also had a drink and dinner. The food was good enough, fine but unmemorable. The employees were friendly and helpful and also not pushy or annoyed by us, even though we were there for four hours but only had two drinks and one meal between us.(Or at least, if they were annoyed, they hid it well!) I would come here again, but only for the Tuesday night trivia. The questions were fun and the atmosphere was lively without being obnoxious. If you like Irish pubs, then you might really love this place, but I generally find them a bit bland.

Just went into this dive and got ignored by two lazy bartenders. The girl finally sauntered over and asked what I wanted. When I expressed dissatisfaction at waiting so long she copped an enormous attitude and made the drink then the other lazy bum behind her took the drink away basically telling me to get out. How these lazy brainless worthless idiots get jobs in the service industry is totally beyond me. They’re like whiny babies whose neglectful parents left them to tend bar with absolutely no idea whatsoever what they are doing. Dumb and dumber like you’ve never seen before!

Great neighborhood bar with fun pop music. Only downside is the cocktails are surprisingly expensive. I expected this type of bar to have cheaper prices than a cocktail lounge or the upscale Penrose, but no. I will still return because I like the vibe of this place.

Divey but chill crowd. Smaller pool table in the back and easy to get on. Quick bar service.

Skip Internet dating(yes, this includes Unilocal) and go directly to trivia. The Gael Pub hosts trivia on Tuesday nights. This gives you some prime opportunities to meet people, and to maybe meet someone who knows a lot of worthless information that will come in handy… Never. From a female’s perspective, I like guys who have good memories because then there is no excuse to forget birthdays and anniversaries. If you know how many soldiers died in the civil war(according to historians it is roughly 625,000) you can remember my birthday. The bar is also crowded. Like, jam-packed and standing room only. This gives guys the opportunity to offer a chair to a pretty girl, even if its just for one round. Another option: If you buy a pitcher of beer then your team gets a ticket that you can turn in with your answer sheet to pass on a tricky question. While generally I am not a fan of trivia that allows you to buy answers, this does allow you to pretend that you’re just very competitive when it comes to trivia, as you pass her another beer and continue to chat her up. In the end, even if you lose the game you just might find a girl.

I have been to the Gael numerous times since I arrived in New York and it is definitely my most favourite neighbourhood bar. The two bartenders are really friendly and you can tell they enjoy serving the customers!(I have been to many bars in Manhattan where the bartenders think they are going above and beyond by serving you. idiots!) Deffo recommend the bar to start off your night in Manhattan.

The holiday décor was cute. Why…whyyy did I get food here? WORST bar food I’ve ever had in my life. Burger looked/smelled/tasted unappetizing. I’ve had better burgers from McDonalds: x Burger came from the freezer, cold bun, rubber yellow cheese, the individually wrapped slices kind. My boyfriend got the buffalo wings, which were pretty much just drenched in hot sauce, not buffalo sauce. He loves wings and he barely ate half the order. That tells you something there. Happy hour specials were standard. Ordered an Octoberfest(we were surprised they still had it). Started drinking it and realized it was actually Winter Lager(oh well, but why didn’t the bartender know/tell us?) I watched the bartenders serve up lots of beer. Every time they emptied half the beer(foamy part) down the drain. Don’t you know you can pour it a certain way to avoid the foam? Mixed drinks were weak. Meh, meh, meh.

Gael is a generic Irish bar. It was a fun place to hang out — I went for a work mixer for my wife’s school. They allow guest bar tenders, which is a reason to go in itself: some of the teachers and school staff were serving drinks, and they were pretty terrible. One of the guys broke a draft lever, so my favorite beer went out of commission. The beer pints were half foam, mixed drinks barely had any alcohol. It really makes you appreciate a good bar tender. I would not really go back unless I were in the area or if a group was guest bar tending or something of the sort, but it is a good place to hang out if you are near by.

Came here because a friend invited me to play trivia one Tuesday night this summer and I have been back(almost) every week since. I’ve never come here at any other time or for any reason other than trivia, but if you’re in this area I’d swing by. Super nice bartenders, and since they don’t have a kitchen you can bring your own food(there’s a Shake Shack nearby: D) or order through the bartender and it will be delivered to you from the shop next door. Not the worst bathrooms either!

I’ve never been here for trivia night, but I love this bar. Came here for the first time with a few coworkers, came back with a girlfriend, and will go back soon. The atmosphere is chill — there’s a big bar, pool table in the back, few tables to sit at, tables outside, bunch of TVs playing the sports games, and, of course, a juke box! The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. Oh, and there’s a hot bartender named Rory. I’ll be back soon, Gael Pub!

This is without a doubt, THE go-to trivia spot in the city(trust me, I’ve done my research). I’ve been coming to the Gael Pub now for about 3 months straight every Tuesday at 8:30pm to partake in the most joyous trivia in the City. Quiz master Ryan is simply the shit, and takes his job very seriously, sending out epic-ly long e-mails every Tuesday with the trivia categories and other random/interesting tidbits. There are typically 6 – 7 trivia rounds usually including 1 audio and 1 visual round. Each question set is unique and challenging but not so challenging that you’re stumped every time. The question festivities typically last from 8:30 — 10:30, so be ready to stay for the long haul. With each purchase of a pitcher($ 15) you get a ticket that gives you 1 free trivia point, so you even have a chance to redeem yourself if you don’t know the answers. The vibe of the place is so ridiculously chill. There is no kitchen at Gael Pub so anything you order is basically bused in from the pizza place next door. BUT, this means that you can bring in any food you want and there’s no worry of being judged or scolded. No joke, I actually ordered Mexican food to the bar last night. Also, most of the bartenders are actually Irish and super friendly. The people who frequent are also pretty friendly characters(including Quiz Master Ryan). Be warned though, there are regulars, it gets crowded fast and it does get pretty damn competitive. My advice, if you’re coming with a team, get there around 7:13/7:30, bring your own dinner, and start drinking early(aka rack-up free trivia points). My team is still questing the defeat our arch-nemesis — Water bugs, we’re coming for you!

I love it! It’s cozy, not usually crowded. They have good bar food, and the drinks aren’t overly priced. It’s a good pub to come with a group of friends on a weeknight, have a few drinks and listen to the bartender’s iPod before getting back to the grind.
