The UPS Store

I thought I would save some time and avoid long lines at the post office during the holiday season by dropping off a small package being sent to a post office box address on the west coast. I asked for tracking and priority mail and was charged almost $ 20. A couple of days later, I enter in the tracking number and discover that not only has my item not been sent out yet but also that it has been mis-​categorized by the UPS Store as Media Mail, the slowest possible shipping method (especially during the holiday season where it is prioritized below every other form of mail, and shipping times can extend beyond the normal maximum range of nine days). Going to the USPS website, I discover that the media mail rate at the weight of my package is less than $ 3.00. I understand that The UPS Store charges a surcharge for USPS packages, but this is ridiculous and dishonest. My receipt says Priority Mail; the tracking information says The UPS Store at 1202 Lexington set up the package as Media Mail. Avoid this sort of dishonest and short-​sighted bologna, and go the the post office or FedEx (or to an honest UPS Store).

Kind of feel weird rating a UPS store… but to my surprise I had a great experience there today, so I felt like I needed to share.
The guy today was really helpful and took care of exactly what I needed in about 2 minutes. I was kind of frazzled when I came in – kept knocking stuff over, inadvertently ignoring his question as to where my package was being shipped to, etc. – and he just laughed it off. I’m closer to a FedEx but I’ll definitely walk the extra few blocks to come here again.

Walked in with a heavy package to be shipped, needed to buy a box. The manager has several boxes on display, but says ‘I dont have any boxes to sell’. When asked to sell the one on display, rudely declines — no apology, no explanation. He sees that I have a really heavy package which now has to be schlepped down to Fedex instead. It’s 10 °F outside, freezing cold. The guy just stares blankly, and obviously just couldn’t care less. Terrible customer service, rude and doesn’t care.

Been here a couple of times ranging in the morning and early afternoon on weekdays; service has always been friendly and helpful. The post office may offer more affordable rates though.

Everyone who works here is friendly and never gives an attitude. Beats the post office!!!

Shawn, the owner, helped make a nightmare situation with FedEx into a nice sale for UPS. My roommate and I are moving tomorrow morning and a FedEx delivery man decided not to check with the guy in the lobby at the destination address. Long, extremely frustrating story short, FedEx told me the only way I was getting my package (which included all our boxes to pack our apt tonight to move first thing in the morning) was if I came and got it in Brooklyn. So I called this UPS store and in less than 10 minutes had 10 boxes and packing tape sitting in my apartment. THANK YOU!
