Let’s just say that I am rather devastated to have found out while writing this review that the Zibetto on Fulton has closed. New York has lost one of its finest cafes. If you never went, you really missed out and if you knew how great the Espresso at Zibetto was, you understand just how tragic this loss is. I hear there is another location and there will be a new Zibetto elsewhere in the city with time, but the ambiance in this place was really a large portion of its charm. Every time I visit one of my friends in New York, I am so thankful she lives lives in the Financial District, because if she didn’t I probably would never have found Zibetto. My friend studied abroad in Rome and was excited to share with me the experience of an Italian Espresso Bar. I am a coffee aficionado/snob after years of working in different cafes but have yet to make it to Italy so hadn’t experienced the pleasure of having an espresso/macchiato at the bar and probably won’t be the same again. Like many of the prior reviews, I agree that Zibetto has spoiled me. The espresso is incredible and drinking anything less now seems like a chore(and I LOVE coffee). The quality is phenomenal and the price is even better, as you can’t even get a burnt cup of coffee at Starbucks for the same cost of a deliciously creamy Macchiato at Zibetto.

Excellent excellent coffee! EJ and I went on a coffee hunt and arrived at Zibetto with much anticipation and we were not disappointed. I’m a self-admitted coffee snob. I worked as a barista for years and I must say that there few places in NY that serves as good an espresso as this joint.

UPDATE: They have an uptown location that is good, just too far from us down here… we are all devastated that this place closed. At least those of us in the Seaport hood that used to meet there every morning before work :( I am Spoiled now. I was not a coffee nor espresso nor cappuccino drinker until a recent trip to Israel of all places. Upon my return I was happy to find Café Aroma as an alternative to Starbucks… that was until I found Zibetto. It is as if I never has a proper cappuccino before this place! I can not pretend to be a connoisseur and use the appropriate words to describe how smooth and delicious it is. I can only say that I although I try to find a better cup…(and trust me I have tried all over the city) I can not. Not to mention the atmosphere of being transported back to Italy, the friendly and professional(and cute) staff… I think I will stop looking now.

As Atif likes to say, I ‘carpet bomb’ Unilocal with my reviews. Also, mentioning him because he should try Zibetto. :) Zibetto is a charming little espresso bar on the ugliest stretch of Fulton street that ever… street-ed. But once you duck past the Shmucci perfume and Fark Jacobs bags and under the scaffolding that has been there for who-knows-how-long, you are transported to Italy in this tiny little oblong shop. The(I must say) very dashing shop owner/manager/dude prepares your coffee with gusto and love. It’s delicious and on point. They carry that brand of pre-packaged Italian desserts that are served in many of New York’s restaurants whose name escapes me now. in the freezer at the back of the store. Also, they have a wide array of biscuits and baked goods to tantalize you while you wait for your(gasp) skim cappuccino. Note: cash only Cinque stelle!

Wow. This place has a special spot in my heart. Zibetto on Fulton St. opened across from the big white building that used to be ILX. My kid brother who passed away in 1997 worked there and I worked around the corner on John St. If he were still alive today, we’d catch up at Zibetto. I met my buddy today downtown and we stopped in for espressos. I told the barista to make two double Macchiatos which were spot on. Coffee is served in nice cups. Its pretty much fashioned after coffee bars in Italy. Here comes the cool part. They sell little mini cookies at 50 cents each. The small cookie is a welcomed 3:00 treat. Forget Starbucks, have a fresh espresso on Fulton at Zibetto. (say a prayer for my brother Michael who looks over the place)
