Awesome Newark

My first time having chicken and waffle. Who would’ve thought I would of have it in, Newark, New Jersey … Smh LoL Chicken and waffles… And it was, Good for my first time. I think my friend had curry chicken salad. And, it had green apple slices in it too. I remember saying, Oooooh fancy… LoL And, the place isn’t too far from Penn station Newark. It like right there… LoL Inviting, walk in smell good restaurant.

Awesome has awesome food! It’s in a location that is tucked behind Newark Penn station. A 2 minute walk. They serve breakfast and lunch and with my experiences with Awesome their food is delicious. I ordered the chicken and waffles and loved it! My absolute favorite part are the sweets. They have fresh baked cakes. The rum cake taste like a slice of heaven and the carrot cake is mouth watering. Sometimes depending on your location they will deliver. But be prepared to wait a while. Everything is pretty much baked fresh so it does take a little longer than an instant kitchen restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the ambience is very cute. There’s a nice jungle theme going on that I like very much.

Hidden Gem… This place is a few steps from Newark Penn station but is easy to overlook, however if you do stumble across it you will be amazed. I arived during breakfast and orded chicken and waffle. I was able to swap my waffle for french toast. Both were amazing. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and nice and crispy. Definitely had the southern style to it. This place also will make whatever you want if you order it a day or two in advance. Would definitely recommend for commuters however if in a rush call and order in advance.

GREAT Food. Got off my train and decided to grab a quick bite. Very hungry from an day of travel and wanted something filling but not heavy. THE shrimp and grits, which was absolutely amazing. TRULY A HIDDEN GEM!

Firstly, I’m ashamed that it’s taken me so long to get here. My other half went to the soft opening and I’d been meaning to go, but life happens. Anyway, tucked away in the heart of Newark near Penn Station, Awesome is about to start makin some waves! I stopped in on a Thursday night for an after hours test run. Usually they close kind of early, so I guess they wanted to see what the night vibe was like. I really, really hope they continue.
There was a DJ to keep you rockin while I chatted with friends and waited on food in this homey little spot. There was plenty of space to dance if I wanted to. I downed not one, but 2 of their Hibiscus Iced Teas. Wow. I would buy this stuff by the gallon. In fact, the longer I hung around, I noticed that the place filled, everyone who came in had their hand wrapped around a glass of that deliciousness.
I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I dug in. On my first trip, I had a BBQ chicken slider, curry chicken slider, and seafood salad slider. The curry took the cake, the BBQ sauce was very flavorful and I loved that it was a generous piece of chicken breast, all were served on mini potato rolls and I’m sad I didn’t get more.
I also love Caprese salad so that was a must and I was very pleased. Spring salad with red and yellow cherry tomatoes, halved and topped with sliced mozz, pesto and balsamic. Too good.
I saw that everyone was getting the mac and cheese. Who doesn’t love mac and cheese? I ordered some of that as well to see what the fuss was about and I have to say that might have been the one blemish on the scorecard. The texture was perfect, creamy and cheesy. It was even baked a little so the top layer had a lil crust to it. The only thing was that I had to doctor it with a little adobo and garlic, just a bit bland for my taste. The hibiscus tea washing it all down makes up for it!
Awesome gets 5 stars because the atmosphere, friendly staff, and food are all exactly that… Awesome.

Awesome serves up incredible flavorful food, way beyond what we expected. Great location just a block from Penn Station. They have a great menu, and were flexible to my requests. I am giving this place 5 stars. Epic food, great service and very fair price!

We really enjoyed our dining experience, the service was great and the food was awesome! I ordered the Tuna Wonton Appetizer and Chile Rellenos Special. When the wonton appetizer came out the presentation wowed us! The tuna was seared perfectly and the awesome sauce was delicious. The chilie rellenos special was my favorite, lots of flavor and cheesy goodness. Will be coming back!

It’s been a few months since I went and ALL of the wrinkles have been ironed out! Service is fast and very cordial and the food — AWESOME! Today I got their burger with fries, ½ pound, juicy, cooked to order burger with ripe tomatoes, romaine lettuce (not lousy iceberg), and sliced red onion on a perfectly toasted roll served with wonderfully seasoned, steak cut fries with Awesome Sauce on the side. Why didn’t I go back sooner? Now they also have cheaper, weekly lunch specials which means this place will be seeing more of me from now on. I debated giving them five stars, but since they close at 5:30 they can’t do fine dining even though their food, décor, atmosphere, and service is on that level. If you need a break from the office and want a spectacular meal then walk on over.

Saw this place as I was catching a cab outside Newark Penn Station. Although I was in a rush, I was starving first!!. My Freshly Deliciously sliced turkey breast sandwich was delivered in just a few minutes. soft, tasty, more turkey than bread, drip bag… yum yum.
Seems they are only open for lunch and early dinner so if you are lucky enough to live or work in downtown Newark, you will be overly satisfied.
