Each time Ive attempted to give this Golden Krust location YET another try they always prove me right, the last time should have been the LAST time I stepped foot in there. They never have anything thats on the menu even when you call ahead of time and ask. They answer yes and yet they dont. Today was the last time they will ever get me in there. I called this morning and asked about breakfast, I was told what they have. I walk in 15 mins later only to be tld they dont have it. Its not rocket science either you prepped the food and know what you have or you dont. But you surely did not sell out in 15 minutes. And to top it off the service in there is subpar. How are you their to service and yet behave like the customer is burdening you. Places like this continue to give Newark a bad name. Close this location down because its horrible and has the nerve to be expensive.

I come here a lot, i looove the jerk chicken buuuut the rice and beans lacks flavor. I always ask for a lot of gravy to give the rice some taste. This location seems to be the only one that Ive been to that has flavorless rice, a lil more salt wouldnt hurt.

This place has great food! When I first entered the establishment the first thing I notice is that they were nice and clean. The staff greeted me in a friendly manner, and they make sure that I was very well taken care of. I recommend this place to anyone who loves Caribbean food

The only reason to walk into this place here is to buy a patty. It is hard to make a messed up patty. The food is not good. I will never say, «Hey I want Jamaican food, lemme slide through Golden Crust real quick like». It is not worth it.

This is conveniently located downtown. I get the curried goat, oxtails, or the jerk chicken. There are several types of meals depending on how hungry you are i.e. mini, small(regular), or large. They have a nice choice of sides which are all good in my opinion. The meals are always fresh and the portions are generous. The line can be long and slow. I’ve learned not to go at lunch time unless I’ve called in 45 minutes before pick up. The pic in the review is the curried goat roti that I had last week. I was«jonesing» for one. It was delicious. Goat was tender, spiced just right with whole spice corns. Had to use a fork and pull my roti skin to sop up the gravy. The skin was beautiful and thin, separated by lovely layers of ground peas. Btw you can buy the krust/crust and make your own patties at home. They sell them for $ 1. I made my own patties with the crust and my own homemade filling; they were«bangin». Don’t know what’s in that crust, but it’s addictive. It’s a few blocks from Penn Station and practically across from Prudential arena. It’s also accessible by many buses. Parking could be a challenge.

Solid brown gravy chicken, and excellent patties. All you could ask for in an airport.

Worst customer service ever. The food is OK not the best but I always feel depressed when I walk in there. They have the most rude staff ever !!! They treat their customers like dirt and scum of the earth. There’s always a sassy clerk that will tell you off and verbally abuse you like she’s doing you a favor for wanting to purchase food in the restaurant. I guess the owner/franchisee is oblivious to the damage the employees are doing to the business. Will never step in the restaurant again.

Being a recent transplant to the Downtown Newark area, I must say that I was impressed with the chicken wings however the competence, customer service, cleanliness, and overall attitude of this location completely & totally SUCKS! The unfortunate part of the issue is that I have very STRONG ties within the NY/NJ FOODCRITIC industry; this behavior/attitude that I have experienced on several instances(2x) will NOT go unnoticed. Hopefully the owner is reading these horrible reviews … I hope one of two things happens — Either you get some people, that know to the«TREAT» and TALK to your customers or either the frequent emptiness in the store, hopefully will become one of permanent state; meaning OUTOFBUSINESS. Downtown Newark is building up a new genre of people with power and clout; I have NO tolerance for being handled any type of way by horrible, incompetent & miserable staff!!! I will NEVER return there — I’d rather go all the way to the City(NY) then to go to this location, ever again!

As someone who loves Caribbean food, I was extremely disappointed with the food I received at GoldenKrust. While I realize my comments may be specific to this location, and not the chain as a whole, I must say that this was perhaps some of the worst Caribbean I’ve ever had. I walked into the restaurant and asked for a shrimp patty. I was told that they were out. When I asked if they could make some more, the cashier replied, «no we”re about to close.» Somewhat taken aback at the women’s response I asked if I could get a veggie patty. I was again given the same response. Finally I asked if I could just get some rice and peas. To my complete surprise, they actually had some. Wasting no time to eat, as I had literally been craving this meal all day, I opened my rice and began shoveling it into my mouth. The rice had ZERO flavor. As hungry as I was, I couldn’t even make it through the entire container. I quickly dumped the remaining contents in the nearest trash can. Needless to say I won’t be going back to that GoldenKrust.

Proper! Two patties for $ 3. The lady behind the counter was nice on a rainy AM.

a legit golden krust. you can get your patties here with no fear. i say this because not all chains are run well, but the newark location is legitimate. plus, there’s a decent amount of seating there in comparison to — let’s say — the 14th street one(which is good, but small). you can eat inside of the newark golden krust. i’ve done so for lunch. so check it if you are in the mood for some caribbean standards.

Booyah! This place rocks. I walked into Golden Krust before going to the Prudential Center last week not knowing what to expect. I asked our servers there what was good and they all agreed that I had to try the Oxtail Combo, which I delightfully complied with and added an order of spicy beef patties on top. A few minutes later I was greeted with melt off the bones meat, sweet sweet plantains, stewed cabbage and rice & beans. Yum. A hearty meal fit for a king.

Oh, GOLDENKRUST, how I welcomed you into my life with wide open arms! You told me that just one bite would make everything ok, and it did. Brown stewed chicken, you are the dish of my dreams, where have you been all my life? Fill me with your cabbage and sweet plantain sides and make me whole. Golden Krust, you complete me. I shower you with love and affection at your previously-unYelped Newark location, because, there, among the murder and crime-ridden streets, was where I discovered you first. I now kiss the feet of your other outposts in NY, but it will never be the same. GK-Newark, you were my first. I may someday die with clogged arteries, but at least we have each other.
