The knowledgeable and coffee erudite, Nayha enhanced our visit and truly wonderous experience at this local coffeeshop. Service like this is what makes a local spot stand out above others. This barista provided entertainment, polite and intellectual conversation. We found out she is expecting and wished her nothing but amazing results. She was also able to provide subtle humor, mixed in with her colorful and charming personality, well this all just makes this a place to visit again in the near future. Drinks were delightful, location was cozy. Good spot to go to if you’d like to avoid the commonplace starbucks at every corner.

Terrible coffee. It’s a good quiet place for studying, as opposed to the Starbucks down the street. And it’s a local business but damn the coffee was burnt three times I went there– and I went early in the morning. Suggestion: get a tea or mixed drink, the sugar makes it go down easier.

The workers are so nice! I love their candy lattes and the set up of the store is adorable. There are bookcases and nice wooden tables. It’s pretty hard to find a table at times since the place is so small, but if theres a free space its a great place to stay and do homework. I’d say it my favorite coffee shop on main street, and there are A LOT of coffee shops there

Recently checked this place out while I was in Newark for a few hours. I ordered the large iced latte and the hummus feta spinach wrap. The staff was friendly and the coffee and food was enjoyable. I personally think its fun that your coffee is served in a big glass mug. I also appreciate the healthy food offerings. The place is a bit crowded with tables and students studying so consider that if you have a group. I will return for a coffee if i’m back in the area.

Open til 8! Not 6 as Unilocal told me when I was walking through Newark. Had an hour to kill, found this cute little place. Nice coffee, nothing crazy. Sweet barista served me. Reasonable prices.

Cozy and quaint little coffee shop. Perfect for reading, playing board games, or studying. Amazing«candy lattes»(try the Almond Joy). Sandwiches, bagels, and salad options are limited but good.

My favorite coffee shop in Newark. It doesn’t get as loud as Brew Ha Ha and all of the coffee is fairtrade. The drinks are delicious, the service is quick, and the ambiance is very much what one would expect from a small coffee shop in a college town.

Favorite coffee shop in Newark. Love the vibe — quiet, laid back, cozy. Great quality drip coffee and espresso drinks.

Coffee is good… food is overpriced. The owner should consider some more consistent and competitive pricing on his food. For example. a bagel with butter should not be the same price as a bagel with cream cheese. 7.50 for hummus sandwich? I’m not sure why the food is so expensive there…

I stopped here while driving from Maryland to New Jersey in order to get some coffee. I expected the coffee to be excellent and for there to be a wide selection of tempting baked goods from the reviews and was a bit disappointed. The shop itself is nice and I could see this being a popular study spot for students. They only had a small selection or baked goods– some scones, cookies, and muffins. The muffins looked the best but nothing looked amazing enough to make me want to try it. Iced coffee was decent. Definitely not great or even good but not completely horrible. They do have a lot of flavored syrups and have a bunch of «candy lattes» which sounded interesting but too sweet for me.

Best coffee in the Wilmington area. I couldn’t see myself or how anyone else would go anywhere else. Support local businesses.

Chillaxing. 2.16.14 What is it with the snappy naming coffee shops? A mystery. My wife said she had a warm, relaxing spot for us. I love it when she teases me with a thoughtful plan. We decided to mark time at Brewed Awakening one freezing cold Sunday afternoon. It was warm. Relaxing. Friendly. We grabbed a window seat and the house Scrabble board while we enjoyed a small bold dark roast in a medium glass mug($ 1.50) and a tasty tall decaf hazelnut latte($ 3.00)

+ Best coffee + Relaxed, chill vibe + Great people watching tables on the sidewalk Main St coffee shops are my office, and I’ve tried them all over the past year before settling on locally owned Brewed Awakenings as my favorite. COFFEE Brewed has the best tasting coffee. They use EqualExchange fair trade organic coffee beans and teas. I don’t drink the lattes and specialties, so can’t rate them, but they have a variety of these as well as French and Italian sodas, hot chocolate, and lemonade. FOOD The wrap/salad/sandwich items are very fresh, and simple yet healthful. In addition to turkey, chicken, tuna, salmon, crab meat, and ham options, there are a few hearty vegetarian options(cheese, hummus), plus some vegan options in the form of wraps, salads, and soup. There’s beef chili, and occasionally a vegan chili. I have found them always flexible with the menu. They’ll pretty much make whatever you want from their ingredients. Of particular note: the fire roasted vegetable soup is very hearty and tasty, and the baked goods are excellent. The locally baked chocolate chip cookies are my favorite snack on Main St. SETTING Brewed Awakenings is the only coffee shop where I can actually get work done or have an effective meeting because they do not play music. Or at least, the few times I’ve heard music, it was very quiet such that one could still converse or even have a quiet phone call. The internet is the fastest(I measured 15⁄7) of any wifi I’ve used on Main St.* The large bookshelf along one wall deadens any echoes and looks nice, too, with actual books and board games. The soft lighting and room décor have a very warm cozy feel. A few outside tables are great for people watching, and on sunny days you’ll find that the effective temperature there feels about 10 °F warmer than it really is. If you don’t see it, there’s a patio umbrella stored behind the front door. SERVICE The staff are friendly and prompt, and the owner is often on duty making rounds to ensure customers are happy with their seating, have access to power outlets if they need it, etc. My only nits are: not many power outlets due to the 100+ yr old building, and I wish there were some fruit options for breakfast in addition to the baked goods. If you haven’t been here in a year or so, they now take credit cards, too. _____ * sidebar: I prop up Brewed’s «get your work done» benefits at risk of hurting their business. Coffee shops lose sales when you come in and take up a table during peak hours in exchange for purchasing a mere $ 3 drink. Other customers peeking in for a more spendy meal will leave without ordering if there are no open tables. So if you’re going to hang out at any coffee shop, plan to order some food and make sure to tip often and generously. And take up the smallest table that accommodates your party so as to leave larger tables open.

I really enjoyed this quiet little coffee & tea house along Main Street on the University of Delaware campus. In fact I liked it so much that I went back every morning that I was in Newark on business! Brewed Awakenings can best be described as intimate, cozy, and QUIET which is a wonderful thing in those early morning hours when you’re waiting for your brain cells to wake up and join the party. The local students shuffle in and place their orders, and then wait for the hissing steam engine to dispel it’s frothy goodness into a paper cup. They smile without so much as a word, and then shuffle back out to face the day. I came in for the fresh-brewed Fair Trade organic tea, and was happy to sit inside and sip on my tea and enjoy an organic muffin while many of the others were ordering their fancy morning beverage-du-jour. The interior of Brewed Awakenings has a wall of books and board games, and they obviously support the idea of people gathering at their shop and enjoying the ambiance. Later in the day Brewed Awakenings has soups and sandwiches on their menu to help feed your soul without breaking your bank account. They have a terrific patio with seating, and plenty of folks took advantage throughout the day. I prefer to support small, local businesses rather than the big commercialized chains, and from the steady stream of people at Brewed Awakenings it is obvious that the students and the locals feel the same way.

I used to go here all the time, but in recent years, my daily ‘flightpath” has changed a bit, so I’ve ended up using a different coffee house. But I was on Main Street and happened to Unilocal in and read Amy H’s review of this friendly local establishment. Like Amy, I love that the place is quiet, and at least mildly sophisticated — with a wall full of books and board games that most people just look at, but makes you feel like you’re back in the 19th century.(In a good way!) Particularly fond of stopping in here for a bowl of soup for lunch on a cold winter’s day. Also a nice place to meet your intellectual friends for stimulating — but quiet — conversation! Great local business. I need to go back more often. AND… they have a catchy name! LIVELONGANDPROSPER Brewed Awakenings!

I adore silence. Before attending an evening workshop last Saturday at the University of Delaware, we had the time and privilege to walk around Main Street before getting our opera on. We unexpectedly stumbled upon Brewed Awakenings and good golly, what a lovely surprise. Aside from the fair trade selections, delicious healthy snacks and the good energy bubbling over, this coffee house was especially quiet for being located near the university. I think the exclusive and extraordinary peace-loving students hang out here; it feels so grown-up. As much as I enjoy hanging out in progressive college towns and their coffee shops, I typically avoid them during the weekend hours because they’re often loud and overcrowded with exhausted college students who don’t want to see adults of my age group interrupting their space but I believe I could have spent all day with Brewed Awakenings. It is much like a cozy, homey place you would find tucked away in a small New England town. Five stars and hats off to the owners for the love that seemingly went into the charming and thoughtful set-up and atmosphere.
