The high points are great burger, shrimp, calamari, most of the food is good. I seem to overlook some of the downfalls since I love the burgers, but here I go! first the music is so loud it’s hard to talk(don’t sit under speaker), serve can be very slow, sometimes I wait 40 minutes for my food! And food does not always come out together, it’s just whenever it’s done cooking they serve it. So one person may wait. also burgers are not always cooked the way you order it, but after all this I still keep coming back!!! Ps parking sucks

I have been here pretty much since I could start walking. My whole family goes here, these people pretty much are family. We all live on the block, so it’s even better we don’t have to park, because the parking lot is always super packed. I just love this place! You guys are THEBESTBURGERSINTOWN, or and the buffalo shrimp!

My friends and I were lucky enough to get a spot in the back parking lot on a Saturday night prime time. Once we walked in there were two seats by the bar — scored again. Our seats were right in front of the small griddle cooking all the mondo burgers. This place was BUSY as heck. The beers came out fast, but they really sucked. Maybe they have old taps or something. The complimentary pickles and peppers were nice. My friend and I ordered our burgers and it took over an hour to get our burger which was very sad since we had to watch every burger finish and it wasn’t ours. I ordered the cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and fried onions. I must say this burger deserves 5 stars! It was super delicious, HUGE and very inexpensive(under $ 10). The french fries were alright. I couldn’t have more than a few since the burgers were massive and I ate the entire thing. I will definitely be coming back here, but I may need to wait at least a month because you’re not going to leave here feeling too good about yourself lol.

Great place to check out. Real local spot that’s in a safe area of Newark. Standard tavern with nice bar, high top tables and a back dining room area for large groups. The cheeseburgers in this place are top notch. Fresh made big size burgers cooked on the flat top, fresh made onion rings, Manhattan Clam Chowder all were fresh and delishous. The only issues were parking and service. Instead of staff doing their assigned areas or tasks, they were all doing everyone else’s job and caused some confusion and delays in getting food and drinks out to people. On a busy night, expect to wait 30 min before food comes out. Drinks can take time as well. I recommend checking this place out.

I came here for the same reason most people seem to — it was voted the best burger in NJ by readers. Overall, the experience was just ok. Parking was pretty tough because the bar’s lot was very tiny and the streets were extremely crowded(double parking everywhere). Inside is a better situation, with a typical dive bar vibe and plenty of seating. I ordered a beer and a bacon burger; I was pretty disappointed with the beer selection, as they didn’t have much on tap besides your typical, big-name beers, but it wasn’t a big deal. Onto the burger: definitely not the best burger I’ve ever had. I can see why people go nuts over it, because it was actually cooked the way I wanted it(medium-rare) and the patties are huge, but the beef tasted as if there was no seasoning on it. It was a solid burger, good sized, and not expensive(although I wish it came with fries or something), but it was just lacking in flavor and was too bland for my taste. It’s also worth noting that while I was eating here, a woman came into the bar like 4 times and went table to table trying to sell everyone some bootleg DVDs. The first time it was kind of funny, but when she kept coming back I started to get pretty pissed. No, I did not change my mind. It wasn’t like after being asked three times that I had suddenly realized I had an absolute need to buy a pirated version of the new Die Hard movie. Back off, lady.

Not only they serve the best burger of new jersey but also they provide great and friendly service. on top of it they have one of the best pastrami sandwich of the entire area, totally recommend. They have yuengling on tap as well . Don’t forget, it’s jersey baby, they know how to cook here.

Nice place. Huge portions. Watch out for double parkers. Went here as my last meal in the states and got buffalo fingers and a bacon burger. Love how they come out with bread and pickles to start you off. Really unexpected and different. The buffalo wings were killer but super spicy. Like save some of that bread to eat with this spicy. Great flavor though, more dimension than out of the bottle sauce. The burger was huge, too big to finish for me. But definitely a great place to come for some hearty American.

I really like this place. A real man’s place; although women are welcome. This is actually a bar that makes some fantastic burgers. Juicy quality ground Chuck, seared on a griddle. The clientele dictates every burger is a whopping ½ pound.

The tastiest, juiciest, most delicious cheeseburger I have ever had… and I’ve had a lot. The perfect size(I’d guess 5 – 6 oz) for lunch… especially when you skip breakfast. Fries were the thick cut type and cooked to perfection. The pickles and hot peppers were a nice treat as well.

Very solid burger. Not the best burger I’ve ever had in my life, but certainly in the top 5. Really enjoyed everything about my experience there. They don’t advertise as more than they are and that’s exactly what I was looking good for. If you’re looking for cheap draft beer, a great burger and a solid little hole in the wall environment then Krugs is for you. Honestly one of the top burgers in the state and you shouldn’t pass it up

New Jersey’s best burger huh??? Not quite. I get why people would vote for it… you get a huge hunk of meat on a bun for a(comparably) low price. Does that mean it’s the best burger in NJ… no. I’ve been here twice(pre award and after) and experienced the same problems. #1 Others have called them out on it… I always call places out on it so here we go… FLAVORYOURMEAT!!! This is a massive ¾ lb burger how do you not season that!!! If there was an award for NJ’s biggest and blandest burger then yes Krugs wins hands down… since there is no such award you are left with a really big, grilled, bland burger… #2 …that’s greasy, really, really, greasy. Like I took a bite and my hands were covered because it already got on the bun… which means it was on the plate… so I lined the bottom of my plate with napkins… but they got soked through so I had to replace them… twice. I love the addition of the peppers and pickles. They are really tasty and I save them and cut them up and put them on the burger. The bar itself is cool too… thus the 3 stars.

My friends kept telling me I needed I try this place, the best burgers around. And it didn’t disappoint, the burgers, onion rings and jalapeño poppers are so good. The atmosphere is cool too, not too dive bar Ish more laid back, cool place for lunch. Would def recommend anyone to try this place out!

It’s patty slapping fun! Making you’re way down a busy street in the southern Newark area, Krug’s Tavern doesn’t stand out from the buildings you’ll be passing by and presents itself as a simple dive bar. Stepping in, it’s still pushing the typical dive bar look and feel with a decent bar size area in the front and some small tables & seats offered in the back with a few TV’s and dart boards around the perimeter. Beer selection steps up the game with a few more options that one may expect and a decent amount of IPA’s for the pale ale fans. The menu is short and sweet with some interesting appetizers and a bunch of burger & sandwich options and rounding it out with a collection of seafood options. Krug’s burgers are something I didn’t expect walking into this joint but certainly stood up to the great ratings they have earned themselves over the years. With well cooked, juicy and the best kind of greasy burgers being served to us made them standout from the pack. Keeping the juices in the burger while still being able to give the bun a little crunch to them is a skill very few places can offer. Pairing well with the beers that we ordered, you are given a massive hamburger that melts in your mouth and fills you to the breaking point. Match it up with some onion rings or a large pickle and you’ve got yourself a meal for the night that will hold you over to breakfast. The atmosphere is excellent, certainly the place to hang out at after work, meet up with a few friends, enjoy some meat patties and beers and strike up conversations of who will actually finish their burger in one sitting. The massive Taylor Ham BURGER option allows you to choose from a variety of cheeses and while it may run you about $ 10, its $ 10 well worth it. You’re going to be enjoying each bite of that burger as an almost wants to fall apart in your hand as if symbolically saying to you nothing this good can last forever. Get your ass down to Krug’s Tavern as soon as you can and see what all the hype is about, I can guarantee you that the food will not disappoint.

Krugs voted the best burger in NJ dot com, so it’s only right a Unilocaler like myself would have this spot bookmarked and ready to go! Lemme tell ya, they make one hell of a mouth watering juicy burger! Be prepared to have those purdy hands flowing with grease and juices… Yum! A week ago mi lady and I decided to join the Unilocaly crew for an awesome Friday night of burgers, beer and fun! The burgers are awesome and range from $ 7-$ 8, but I suggest you keep it simple. The beers hit the spot and who wouldn’t love a cold brew at $ 5-$ 6 a pop. Ohh yea try the IPA with your burger — they compliment each other very well! Now Krugs is located in Ironbound and they’ve been around for years! As we all know parking sucks in Ironbound, but if your lucky or early you can grab a spot in their private parking lot. The front is where the party is at though. Cool crowd, full bar, TVs and awesome service. Towards the back its suited for larger groups 6 or more. We had a blast, enjoyed beers, had a few rounds of café patron shots, kicked back with mixed drinks and most importantly hung out and met some cool new friends. Enjoy peeps and thank me later!

How do you feel about your server refilling your old beer glass? Huge but tasteless burgers? Friendly and really laid back(read: slow) service? Cheap drafts? That’s pretty much how you’ll feel about the Krug Tavern. On tap: Bud, Bud light, Stella, Yuengling, Sam, Shocktop, Long hammer IPA, Rolling rock, Guinness and Blue moon. Just $ 4 for a pint, $ 11 for a pitcher, nice. I ordered the IPA, watched the day-shift old-guy bartender pull the long hammer handle, but what they brought me was a lager, maybe a stella. Wtf, lines crossed? Service too slow to send back so I just drank it but argh. Seriously, best burger in NJ? Maybe the largest, or most ounces of meat per dollar. It was cooked properly medium rare, to their credit, but devoid of salt and not really seared either, just bland. Juicy bcos it was not overcooked but I wouldn’t rush in just for the burger. Wings were pretty good, 10 for $ 9, deep fried then slathered with a rather tasty & spicy sauce, worth getting. But not enhanced by the sealed packet of dressing on the side, and you can just forget about celery. We were not offered any of the peppers that other Unilocalers have raved about. Roast beef special on Thursdays but that’s for *lunch*, it was all gone by 5pm. Oh it has the look and feel of a good dive bar, even the kitchen right in the same room, but the damn music was way too loud for a dive bar. I’m fine with loud happy drinkers but not with a half empty bar where they turn it up just because.

My visit here was long overdue after hearing all the hype. «Voted New Jersey’s best burger»?? What’s this all about? A big group of us went here and everyone got burgers, of course. I went with the bacon cheeseburger. Was it big? Yes. Was it good? Yes. Was it special? Eehh ¾ lb is a lot of meat so kudos to them for not only serving that much weight, but also for keeping all the burgers under $ 10. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a burger of comparable size in the same price range anywhere else in the area, or possibly the entire state. The value may have factored into its vote for the state’s best burger. Beyond that, there’s no «secret sauce» going on here. It’s ground beef, possibly 85% lean, barely seasoned as far as I could tell, cooked on a flat top grill, with lettuce, tomato and raw or fried onion as complimentary extras if desired, with a sesame seed roll. Could you replicate this at home? Well, unless you have a flat top grill, no. But other than that, yeah, you probably could. Still, I’m at 4 stars for the value and the fact that they have parking. The frozen fries and onion rings suck, but at least they have coarse mustard on all the tables instead of that sad French’s plain yellow. The complimentary pickles and hot peppers are a nice touch as well. Krug’s is your place if you want to fill your face on the cheap and don’t mind taking some friendly, all-in-good-humor type attitude from the wait staff.

Well, world famous famous burgers, I dont think so. For a jersey dive bar it was good. The burger is massive which probably helps give this place such a high rating. The toppings were standard to any burger place. I usually say for a burger less is more with the meat and variety of toppings and bun certainly enhance the flavor. The service was nothing to brag about but you shouldnt expect much for a dive bar in the first place. I would go back if I was in Newark but not out of my way for it.

I went here for lunch after the newspaper claimed the burgers were the best in NJ. I must say, they are banging!!! I had the cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. The burger was cooked perfectly and it was very juicy. HUGE12oz burger. One thing I didn’t like, was that you had to pay $ 0.50 extra for each item added to the burger(lettuce, tomato, onion). I see how all 3 things are $.50 extra but EACH item? That’s a little crazy. Once you enter, you feel like you’re in a pub. High tops in the bar area and a small dining room area. The bar had the neon beer signs. I had a bottle of Angry Orchard and my friends had a Corona and a Heineken. Our server was a little distracted but everything came out on time. I would go again to try the other things on the menu. This time, I only went for the burger.

Best burger that I have ever had! I’m not an easy girl to impress when it comes to food, but this blew my mind. The burger was huge, so juicy, moist, flavorful, pipping hot and ooohhh sooo good. The charcoal and cook on the burger was pure perfection. I got the California burger which consisted of mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, sauteed onions and I added peppers as well. Even the ingredients were so fresh, the bread was soft, I tried to finish that big baby up but I couldn’t, I was only able to eat ¾ of it. On the side, I shared an order of steak fries with cheese that was good as well, also a huge portion especially for sharing. You even get free pickles with peppers to start your meal off. It was interesting to watch all the food being made in front of my eyes, I felt like I was at a hibachi restaurant where I was able to see everything being prepared in front of me with no hidden secrets. The cook area is really small for the amount of food that they pump out, but kudos to them because they have been doing it successfully for years now. Con’s: –I didn’t like the fact that they cook the bacon next to the burgers, I don’t eat pork so that was a bit of a disappointment, even if they clean the area after the bacon that would be perfectly acceptable as well but they didn’t. — All the fried items were never placed in paper towels to absorb all the extra oil, such as the fries, wings, onion rings etc. Luckily, It didn’t harm the taste but its a simple implement that should be used. On that note, service was great, I got everything I asked for, and left very pleased. Its an ordinary bar, nothing fancy about it but with phenomenal burgers like that, who needs ambiance.
