Origami has such an opportunity to be a great restaurant because their menu ideas are so creative. But when the food arrived, it was BLAND! Why? Actually, the miso soup was really good. The seaweed salad tasted a bit old and fishy — yucky, had a platter of sliced salmon and mackerel and this is where the fragrant herb oils and sauces should have been bursting with flavor and elevating the fish. Sadly not, but it was pretty looking. Ordered a crunchy roll that didn’t end up being crunchy — only packed with some stale tempura crumbs. Bloody Mary tasted like there was no alcohol — I’m a pretty cheap date and I didn’t feel anything at all. Tables and utensils were dirty. White hydrangeas had spots of soy sauce on them. Basically no service. My iPad wasn’t working, so a server came to re-enter my order in another iPad and he still got it wrong. Needs more training.

Wish I would have thought to read a review on this place before we ate here. When you’re in an airport you don’t really think of these things… but hoping someone else thinks of it and I spare them. This place is a complete mess. We noticed it was empty at 1130am but thought this was just because we were eating at an odd time. We were wrong. First off, you order on an iPad then have to pay ANDTIP before you know how the food or service is. Then we paid $ 70 for 2 adults and a child, and they completely screwed up our meals. Brought us someone else’s nigiri(we didn’t even order nigiri). Then we finally got our meals and the children’s meal we ordered was supposed to come with tomatoes and lettuce on the sandwich and an apple and drink. They brought two slices of bread with cheese and turkey… they literally forgot half of her meal. Lol. I have to laugh about it. They gave us some sad excuse for not having tomatoes or lettuce on the sandwich(because typically kids don’t like tomatoes and lettuce… well then make that an option to order without it if they don’t typically want it) but no explanation for forgetting the apple and drink. Took 10 minutes for them to find an apple. Lol! And we had five different waiters the whole time. One would bring a drink then 5 minutes later, another waiter would bring another drink? Very strange. We all got drinks and meals at different times. Eventually a manager came over and said they would comp the $ 7 child meal. Still wouldn’t give this place more than 1 star, even with the comp. Place looked fancy but the food was painfully average and with the amount of waiters standing around and chit chatting, you would think they would have time to figure out what tables to bring food to and to remember simple things like drinks, etc.

The rolls were warm & delicious! We didn’t have to wait very long but we arrived after the lunch rush hour. You order & pay from from an ipad right in your table. We all thought that the rolls we ordered were delicious. My daughter says we need one of these restaurants in Miami! I was pleasantly surprised. Would definitely eat here again! Loved it!

This place really surprised me. I’ve been to Shumi in central Jersey a several times in the past, which is a place owned by the same person from what I understand. I’ve been missing it for a while ever since we moved away. It’s too bad this place is at the airport or I would eat here more often. I recommend the Omakasa nigiri, which is buried in the roll menu for some reason. Food is fantastic. The service is not. You have to order from iPads, which is a it odd, but the case at every sit-down restaurant at Terminal C.

Worst service ever. It literally took 17 minutes to get a drink and the drink looked and tasted horrible. We’re in an airport, move faster! My wife ordered the cheese plate for 18 dollars and received 3 slices of cheese…

Best service I have EVER had at an airport restaurant. Herman the manager is the star of the place. Our food was very good as well. I recommend this place.

Ordered a soba noodle with duck confit to go. It was such a small portion for $ 17, would not have satisfied anyone. When I complained they added more noodles but I almost wish they hadn’t. The taste was bland and salty and there was no duck confit in the dish. Will never eat there again, especially when there are other and hopefully better food options slightly further into the terminal.

The sushi was good. But the service was awful! The 2 bus boys were very disrespectful and unatentive. I have them a 12% tip because they dont even take my order(its through an ipad) and when the busboy saw it he went to the other guy laughing while poring my water and looking at me. Not sure if they did something to my water but I did not dink it just in case. I felt very uncomfortable while eating and will never go back!

High cost for weak sushi. Fish was really lacking any texture. Felt like it had been in the kitchen for quite a while.

The food was alright. The ordering system is on iPads, so you basically get zero actual service. They lost my order and my receipt was printed from someone’s e-mail, but they did apologize, which is something when there’s no actual service. Annoyingly, you pre-pay and pre-tip for the service you don’t actually get. Of my limited options in this terrible airport, I suppose this was a decent choice.

Slow slow slow service(hello we’re in an airport) and tiny portions. The staff is unable to answer questions about the menu and they are unable to split checks. I really hate their ordering system as you must order everything at once and can not add to your order later without having an entirely new bill. Also tip must be paid up front. Good beer and wine menu but the food didn’t impress me any, nor did the rude servers. There is better food further down at the food court and you can avoid their strange ordering system. Also no good unfiltered sake options.

I’m giving this 5 stars just because I’m not sure why it’s rated so poorly, undeserved! Service is prompt and polite and the sushi is fantastic — airport or not. Perfect temperature but semi-pricy for the amount provided, however it is an airport. «Wine of the day» was excellent especially for the price and it wasn’t poured from one of those counter tap things which are awful. Definitely worth coming to.

Very nice service, pleasant environment and very helpful manager. 4 stars is the most I can give an airport restaurant simply due to the nature of the business(limited food selection) but it is the highest I’d give to any airport restaurant. I’d definitely come back next time at this airport. Got the sushi plate which had a nice selection. The martini was a full glass and delicious. Everyone was kind and prompt.

The worst place I have ever eaten in First it is a total ripoff: 14 bucks for two sad small pieces of fish that would not pass muster in any restaurant, the very expensive rolls are Safeway quality :second, beware of the menu for drinks: it is setup in such a way that you order 1.5 glasses(for an exorbitant cost) without realising

This place is absolutely horrendous. I walked in was ignored by all the staff for five minutes. When I finally got one of the waiters attention he told me to sit wherever I wanted. I had sat for another five minutes waiting for a menu or to be greeted, but was completely ignored. Finally I had to basically scream«EXCUSEME» for the waiter to come over. He told my to order from the iPad sitting in front of me, which I had thought was just used for flight information because that’s what the girl next to me was using it for. I ordered the tofu salad and a club soda. I was hoping for a quick bite to eat before my flight(which would start to board in 30 minutes). I sat for fifteen more minutes without even getting my club soda. I noticed my salad was sitting on the food bar but the waiter ignored it, talking with the other waitress. Finally one of the chefs asked if he was going to take the food to me and he did, without the club soda. I had to remind him that I ordered a drink. I wish I was able to take a picture of this«tofu salad» they tried to give me before I sent it back. It was maybe half a cup of romaine lettuce and NO tofu. There were the tiniest little tofu shavings(picture a portion of coconut shavings the size of ONE quarter). I almost thought it was a joke. I asked where the tofu was and they said«it’s there.» I pulled up the picture on their iPad menu which displayed big chunks of deliciously fried tofu and told them this is what I want. They told me they could get their manager if I’d like. I said yes please. The manager never came over to speak to me, instead I saw him reprimanding his employees in the corner. Soon after, the female waitress came over and asked if I would like to get something else instead. I told her I would appreciate a full refund, as my flight has already begun to board and this was extremely inconvenient. The refund took another ten minutes to complete and she brought me the receipt, no apologies or anything. When I walked out of the restaurant I looked down at the receipt and they only refunded me $ 9 for the salad. They didn’t refund me for the club soda or the gratuity that I paid. Honestly if my plane wasn’t already boarding, I would have turned around and gave this piece of sh** establishment a piece of my mind. What a dump. Please DONOT waste your time or money here. Once I got closer to my gate there were SOMANY better options for food.

Bad service man… Almost all of our orders were messed up. The food we received looked much different than what was shown on the screen. Will not come back again

Ate here for dinner while waiting for my departure. I only ordered from the Sushi selection. I enjoyed everything that I ordered. I recommend their sushi offerings. The service was good during my visit but that is most likely due to only a few tables being occupied. You have the option of changing your tip before you place your order but not after! This is a ridiculous policy and I consider it a scam! There are several other restaurants in Newark that use the same ordering system so beware.

I actually liked the way they take the order here, through the iPad. The good part is that you can view exactly what you ordered, and you can pay either by credit card or by miles, which is much more convenient and cleaner than dealing with cash. The bad part is that tip is predetermined, so good service or bad, you will have to take it. Food quality was also pretty good. At least I was satisfied with the oatmeal together with coffee. One very tiny thing, they don’t offer skim milk here, only nonfat whole milk.

This restaurant is all looks, no quality or good customer service. You order your food through an IPAD and no one that serves tables actually talks with you. I had ordered a Coke, Sushi roll, and some Nigiri. I actually didn’t get my Coke until my food was delivered and I asked for the Coke. I saw a couple of other people waiting for food and they finally got fed up and left because the customer service from the servers absolutely sucks! The Manager was also present and he looked like he didn’t have a clue of how to resolve issues. I highly recommend that you do not waste your time and eat at this restaurant in the Newark airport. By the way, you get charged 18% gratuity while you place and pay for your order, at the beginning of your experience.
