Exploring all the breakfast places in Newark and I would rank this pretty low on the list. To start, the café looks like you’re eating in your grandmother’s tacky dining room from the 50’s. However, the staff didn’t seem to mind as they were very friendly. Now for the food. It was not a cheap breakfast and I was forced to get either whole wheat pancakes or pumpkin flavored. They apparently don’t carry a regular pancake mix. I got blueberry whole wheat pancakes and they were bad. No way to sugarcoat it. They weren’t very fluffy and the blueberries tasted like they were just unfrozen. The bacon was decent but they didn’t come with the meal; it had to be ordered as a side for a couple more dollars. Based off that experience, I will not be eating at Sinclair’s again. As I was paying with my credit card that has a chip in it, my waitress said I had to tell her how much I wanted to tip her because they couldn’t go back and add it to these types of cards. I thought that was strange and worth commenting on. Either way I would just stay away from this place.

This is the best breakfast place in Newark. The staff is very pleasant, the food is wholesome and healthy, and the locals obviously like it since it can get crowded on weekends by 9:30. The place has a definite health food edge: whole grain bread, optional turkey sausage, and specialty pancakes. The coffee is excellent. My only gripes are no oatmeal and the pancakes. There is only one specialty pancake of the day available, and perhaps also whole grain pancakes. That’s your choice, and apparently they never have my favorite, standard buttermilk pancakes.

I’ve got to say that there is something about the food here that just gets me going in the morning. The bacon is some of the best I’ve ever had. My friend who was with me said«What do they do to their bacon that everyone else is missing the mark on?» The homefries are great too with just enough heat. Many places that I’ve had breakfast at leave me with sort of a muted taste and feel. They’re good but there is not enough flavor. That is not the case with Sinclairs. Its a touch more expensive than some of their competition but they’re worth the extra money.

Just ok. This place has that ma & pa atmosphere and the waitstaff to match. I have come here many times and the food is good. I usually stick to eggs & homefries or pancakes. The pancakes are amazing and come with real maple syrup. The homefries are over seasoned and kind of mushy. The eggs bennies and omelettes look like they’re made with frozen veggies, so I’d stay away. Overall a decent, cheap place for a quick breakfast.

In town for a couple of UDel hockey games. Ate at Sinclair’s for breakfast. I thought it was great. I had a poached egg, cooked perfectly with spinach and swiss cheese on an English muffin. Served with home fries that were delicious. Perfect crust on the big chunks of potatoes and onions with a seasoning combination that was great. Tasted the whole wheat pancakes and they were pretty good too. Waitress was super friendly and attentive. Definitely not a gourmet, upscale spot… just a great local, friendly spot to eat.

I cannot understand the glowing reviews of this place. Been there twice. Nothing stands out. The servers are very cheery and efficient. That’s about it. The food,… meh. Ordered scrambled eggs, got an overcooked dried out mass of egg loaf. Scrambled eggs are supposed to be fluffy and moist and that is how I ordered them. The rest of the meal was not memorable, just run of the mill potatoes and bacon. The toast was home made(so they say) and it tasted like it was from the day-old bread store. I will not waste my time or money here again. Yet, the trendy hipsters will continue to frequent this place.

Sinclair’s is a wonderful mom-and-pop brunch spot. This space is intimate, so it’s perfect for a couple or a group of three or four. The waitstaff is always pleasant and attentive. It’s a very easy-going restaurant with good food and thoughtful specials.

This was a fairly disappointing breakfast; the best part was the toast, partly because toast is pretty difficult to mess up. I got the veggie omelet with bell pepper and tomatoes, which came with home fries and toast. The omelet was clearly made from those fake ‘egg beaters’- the texture was fairly rubbery and it was tasteless. The fillings were stuffed into the omelet almost like taco fillings, so they just fell out. They should have been incorporated into the batter, like how most omelets are made. The home fries were burned and again, no taste other than burned crisps. My friend got the orange cornmeal pancakes, which I tried and I was not impressed. I couldn’t taste the orange flavor at all and really couldn’t tell that it wasn’t a plain pancake. A heap of syrup made it a bit better, because syrup makes everything better. Needless to say, I will not go back to this place. There are much better places on Main Street to eat breakfast, especially for the price.

I’ve finally found my go to breakfast place. I’ve looked over this place for years because it’s on main st which usually means fighting through hoards of awful college kids and their parents but I was desperate for breakfast so I figured I’d try it. Firstly, they do have a private lot behind the building which is a must if I’m venturing into the actual town of Newark. It’s self seating so we sat next to the window, which provided great people watching. The staff seemed a little harried but were friendly and courteous. The menu was pretty traditional as far as breakfast places go. They also serve lunch and I’m excited to go back and try the tuna melt. I ordered coffee, an espresso, Monterey Jack omelet that came with home fries and toast, and a side of turkey sausage. The pork variety was not available, just turkey and veggie. My boyfriend got coffee, cinnamon raisin French toast, and a side of home fries. Everything was exactly what we wanted. The home fries were bigger chunks than you usually see, but were cooked well. Also the potatoes were cooked with diced onions which imparted a great flavor. They did just need a little salt and pepper. My boyfriend who is way more particular about how his food is cooked than I am even loved it. Apparently he never really enjoys breakfast cooked at restaurants and usually just suffers through what’s brought to him, but he said he actually really really loved his French toast and home fries. We both just really liked everything. The interior could definitely use a sprucing up but was clean from what I could tell. Downside is they’re only open until 2 and closed Monday. But yea it was delicious and I’ll be back.

Medicine is second nature to me, yet not once have I experienced a single disease state, until now. Change the name to ‘Sinclairs Relflux Café’ and it will be more accurate. I have never had GERD in my entire life, up until just now. I needed some pills just to feel better. The interior is lackluster and effortless. It was cold, empty and lacked personality. Sinclair would be the kid in high school everyone makes fun of. The color scheme didn’t have rhyme or reason. Greens and whites. The service was interesting. Walking in, I was greeted with a stare from 10 feet by a man behind the counter who appeared to be visually strip searching me. It was awkward. The sign said seat yourself, so I proceeded, with difficulty as I could not find a place to sit that appeared comfortable or in a ‘nice’ spot in the restaurant. I sat down, looked at the menu that was built by a 1st grader. After I placed my ordered, within 2 minutes it came to my table. Holy crap that was fast! One star for speed! The food is comparable to hospital food. I had the Meat Omelet with turkey sausage. I’ve eaten hospital food that tasted the same and looked the same. It was good cheap food that was not cheap. Eggs appeared to be premixed and the turkey sausage, I’m pretty sure, was gyro meat. My toast was weighed down with butter and my home fries were too chunky and not seasoned enough. I was pretty hungry so I ate the whole thing. Overall, Sinclairs is a cheap establishment with a price. Everything about it is cheap except the name. Its like buying a used Geo at the price of a Benz. I would have to be extremely drunk or deprived of hospital food to ever come back here.

The pancakes were great. They had two choices, lemon cornmeal and whole wheat. The potatoes were a little hard and service was slow.

The reviews for Sinclairs are either great or awful. I found it an excellent choice for a solid breakfast: great service, hot coffee, eggs, toast, bacon, pancakes were fine. Not sure why the negative reviews were so bad. It seemed that people complained about the service and the price. If you want really cheap food, go to Denney’s and you’ll get a chain restaurant breakfast. The service at Sinclair’s at least today was great. Enjoy…

This place is overpriced and the food is barely edible. The service was so bad. The waitress was slow and apparently didn’t like my friends and I. She rolled her eyes a few times and when we would try to call her over when we needed something she would act like she didn’t see us. When we asked to split the check she rolled her eyes once again. Will not come back to this place, not sure why this place would get more than 2 stars.

I love getting breakfast at Sinclair’s! Their food is delicious, though their coffee could use a little work. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. It’s definitely the place to go for breakfast if you’re in Newark.

Great food and friendly staff! My food is always fresh and comes out quickly. They do close at 2pm so get there before then. They serve lunch items but I always stick with the breakfast items, can’t go wrong! It is definitely the best breakfast place in Newark.

When we asked to get our breakfast potatoes more well done, the server said that if she asked the cook to do that she would get yelled at. So we got potatoes that were basically raw. They also didn’t have regular pancakes, just one type of cinnamon specialty pancake. Who doesn’t have regular pancakes? $ 40+tip for three omelets and three cups of coffee is too much. Especially since the veggies in the omelets were raw and the servings are not big. We won’t be going back.

I had read some reviews about Sinclairs Café, some good and some bad and I wanted to check out this place for Breakfast. I really have to side with the bad reviews on this place. First of all BREAKFASTWAS Way to expensive. Breakfast omelet with a side of bacon and coffee for 1 adult and a short stack of pancakes with ham for a child with a 12 oz. cup of milk was almost $ 24.00 before tip !!! It was nothing special at all. In fact not very good. The coffee tasted like some cinnamon was added without me asking for it, and the home fried potatoes had a very strange spice also added to them. NOTATALLTASTY! If the food was decent I could really over look the décor, but I can not. Looked very old, dated worn out and even leaning on the dive end of the spectrum ! OHPOSTHOUSEWHEREHAVEYOUGONE, Your going to be missed !!!

The best breakfast place in Newark. They close early in the day. If you want something a little cheaper, try the Post House(edit: closed). Edit: yes, Greg this is Delaware. Don’t drive here from Philly to get breakfast, I guarantee you’ll be disappointed. Just because I live in a town with relatively mediocre food doesn’t mean I’m going to rate everywhere 1 star, though.

It may be the best place for breakfast in Newark, but it was overpriced and mediocre. I’d hate to eat at the next best place to eat in Newark if this is the best. This tacky hole in the wall seems to be frequented by local college students. Had we known that was this was the food we’d get, we’d would have stayed home and make some scrambled eggs and toast. The home fries were overspiced with hot curry powder of all things, and nothing was seasoned well. The wheat toast was good, but that’s probably because they didn’t make it. Their special today was huevos rancheros, and I’m sure they just slopped on salsa out of a jar onto a small portion of eggs with a slice of cheese, and with toast that was $ 8. The omelet was barely 4″ long, and that platter was about $ 6. Pancakes were miserable. With OJ, $ 33 for 3 people, before tip. Where I’m from, we’d get 2x the food, 2x the taste for 4 people for $ 20. Never going back. Save your money and go elsewhere, or better yet, make your own.
