Located in Terminal C, the prices are on par with locations outside of the airport, but the menu is a little smaller. For example, they don’t serve the Jersey burger here, which is my favorite. It’s still probably the best place to get a burger in the airport. The thin rosemary fries aren’t the greatest as far as I’m concerned, and they often lack a rosemary flavor, but the Häagen-Dazs shakes are great. I was also impressed with the friendliness of the staff here. Not what you’d expect for a fast food joint, much less a fast food joint in an airport. And certainly not what you’d expect in Newark, the recently voted most unfriendly city in the world.

Restaurant closed and replaced by Nonna’s Meatball Kitchen. Fast turnover! Just at at Smashburger 2 weeks ago!

Solid three —(which is great for airport food!) I had the mushroom-swiss burger with avocado, smash fries, and a *sigh* diet-coke. Whatever they put on the burger(some sort of garlic aioli) was outstanding! There was no produce on the burger – I would have liked lettuce. The Smash fries were okay.

Very impressive amount of meat on the burgers. I thought it would be less food for more money like it usually is at the airport. Great tasting as well. I am not sure what they soak the meat in but they have it down to a science.

very VERY impressed with this place. a good, quick burger, at an airport, and NOT $ 10 bucks. okay, I’m interested… but the burger was killer, and the free sweet potato fries(you have to get in line twice and review them positively on your smart phone) but well worth it. (also right by the gate for heading back to SF)

Like the Shake Shack at JFK, this SmashBurger really sticks out as a relatively amazing option for food at the Newark Airport. If you’re lucky enough to be taking off from Terminal C, there’s no question on where you should be stopping for a bite before the flight: SmashBurger is by far the best option. You can’t go wrong here with the classic combo of a burger, fries and a shake. I tried the Bacon Cheeseburger($ 7), which was again really high quality for food made at an airport. My first time having a SmashBurger, I really enjoyed the thin, but very satisfying patty. The egg bun it’s served on is also very different and delicious as well. We also tried the SmashFries and the Sweet Potato Fries($ 2.29 each). Both were very good, and were nice and hot and crispy. If you pick just one though, make sure it’s the much tastier, saltier and oilier SmashFries. Lastly, I was going to pass on a shake, until I saw the special flavor being advertised, the Salted Caramel($ 4.55). I’m glad I caved, as it was really excellent. It was nice and salty and also really sweet and rich. Definitely make sure to end with one of these to tide you over for what is sure to be a miserable flight(I write this as I sit on a hot, delayed plane).

First meal I had when I got back to the States! Nothing else in the C Terminal even compares. Literally everyone around me, including the Auntie Anne’s employees are eating at Smash. I am not sure how these other food services stay in business. I would highly recommend the classic smash burger with everything on it, sweet potato fries. It is excellent! The staff here was also very friendly and our food was given to is promptly, and by name.

First off your burger is made fresh, no patties sitting under a warmer, so be prepared to wait a few minutes. However, the burgers are great and the sweet potatoes fries are awesome. The workers are better than most airport fast food employees and actually we’ll answer questions for you without sounding condescending or rude. It’s worth the walk.

Well, it’s all relative, right? Airports can offer up some pretty dismal food options to their captive audience(day-old pizza, anyone?). And let’s face it, EWR is no SFO when it comes to food. But if you find yourself hungry in the C100s, the nearby Smashburger may be just the ticket. As other reviewers have noted, the Smashfries are the star of the show. Cut thin, fried crisp and seasoned with ample salt and rosemary, they’re really quite tasty. The rosemary is a simple addition, but one that adds a lot to the flavor profile and makes the fries irresistible. The Smashburger is decent: a just-right sized burger(probably a third of a pound or so) pressed into a relatively thin patty, cooked to order and served hot on a very fresh brioche roll with toppings of your choice. Not as good as Shake Shack or Five Guys, but since those places aren’t at the airport, they aren’t really fair comps. Given the other available EWR choices, this place is just fine.

The black bean burger is pretty solid, the patty is a little soft and reminds me of a baked version of a black bean spread more than a burger patty. They didn’t put the mayo on mine which was a little disappointing but the flavor of the patty still came across as quite good. Loved the sweet potato fries with a good sprinkling of sea salt. It seemed like the best option as I was about to jump on a plane at Newark and I didn’t regret my decision.

They offer a NJ dog with spicy mustard and kraut. Avoid at all cost. Salty dog and sitting too long.

I’ve seen Smashburger often when I’ve been flying out, but usually I’m running to the gate, so I never have time to grab any food. When our flight out was delayed last month, it gave us a bit of time to grab some food here before hopping on the plane. I was expecting the burger to be the focus, given that it’s a burger joint — but I found that the rosemary fries were by far the highlight. That extra twist of flavor that the rosemary sprigs give the fries really makes them quite tasty — you really don’t need ketchup to eat them. The burger, though, was disappointing — an uninspired patty that had a bit more weight than your standard patty at Burger King… and that was it. I would’ve taken a burger at Wendy’s over the patty here. In short — grab a bag of fries for your flight, but if you want something that’s a bit more filling and you might enjoy more, trek over to the Chinese restaurant around the corner and grab some bourbon chicken and lo mein — I’ve had it before and come away more satisfied than I did with the burger here.

After traveling all day from the Dominican Republic this burger chain was a nice welcome back to America meal. The burgers are really greasy and the fries are on the thinner side, but I loved the milkshake. Overall, it was pricey since it was airport food so I wouldn’t mind going to this place again outside the airport to really see if I like it. Good news for me, there’s a location in my neck of the woods in NC!

I hate the airport, but on my most recent trip, I was actually excited to go to the airport solely to try Smashburger. I even planned to go super early, so I would have enough time to try it before my flight. The only worthy thing on the menu are the smashfries. I ordered the truffle mushroom swiss burger. You can get a combo, which is obviously a better deal than ordering fries and a drink individually, but the fries included in the combo are just their regular french fries. If you want the smashfries instead, then you must pay full price for each item. They only have one drink size for their fountain drinks: 32 oz.(which is the equivalent of like a super size aka ridiculously huge). I was looking forward to the truffle mushroom swiss burger because it has everything I like on a burger, but it was way too salty! It was greasy, and the bun could not support the contents of the burger, so the bun ended up becoming very soggy. On the other hand, the smashfries(tossed with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil) are genius. No need for ketchup or any other sauces otherwise you risk ruining the sheer perfection of that combination. I actually went to to the airport a week later for another flight and was very sad that I couldn’t make a trip to Smashburger to be reunited with their beloved fries. Without them, Smashburger would be getting 2 stars from me.

No-brainer *tapas* food plan if you’re in Terminal C. Get Smashburger and a Jamba Juice and you’re set for your layover. It’s the best use of 12 airport food dollars east of the Mississippi.(The best use of 12 airport non-food dollars is a boot shine, of course ;) Smashburger has cool breakfast options with/without an actual chicken/burger patty and fried eggs. The last time I had a Smashburger breakfast sandwich(with extra jalapenos and hot sauce) at EWR Terminal C on a Sunday morning, it was an almost religious experience. I would absolutely do it the exact same way again, at 7AM no-less.

While stopping over in EWR before heading to upstate NY, I couldn’t resist trying Smashburger. Being from north of the border, for better(health-wise) or worse(selection-wise) we don’t have a lot of the chains that are here in the US and when I’m in the country I like to try what I can to see what the hype is about. Smashburger stood up pretty well. I went with the bacon cheeseburger and Smash fries. After a short wait, I had my food and sauntered to the seating around the corner to stuff my gob and do some prime people watching. The large patties were protruding from the burger and required some initial trimming. The meat was a bit greasy, but juicy and had a good flavour. There was a nice char on them from the namesake smashing on the flat top and a good texture as well, which is rare in fast food burgers. The bacon was thick and crisp, and the Smash sauce™ added some more richness. The cheese melted nicely over the burger and although the bun was a bit denser than most burger joints, the bottom bun barely held together against all the juices. The Smash fries were fantastic. Thin and frite-like, the fries were very crisp, but not at all burnt, and the rosemary seasoning elevates them above the competition even further. Smashburger, you were a great beginning on the food chain curiosity tour of 2013.

I’ve been a fan of Smashburger ever since trying their location in North Miami during a Unilocal event several months ago. When I got to my gate at EWR, it was nearing dinner time and I was getting hungry, I didn’t have time to sit and be served, but none of the usual fast food pizza and greasy Chinese options looked appetizing. I then spotted Smashburger, and my choice was made. I had the grilled chicken /avocado club(grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing and mayo) and an order of their sweet potato fries. The sandwich was large, very tasty and exactly what I wanted on this day. My only criticism is that the sweet potato fries were coated in salt. In fact, there were a few places where you could hardly see the fries through the clusters of crystalized salt; it could’ve done with a lot less of it and the fries still would’ve been good.

You’re in EWR, you’re hungry, where do you go? Let me tell you, my friend, Smashburger is where it is at, especially for breakfast. Doesn’t really come to my mind as the first place I would think of for breakfast… but is is AWESOME! Especially for airport food. Remember, you are in an airport. The line: there never is one The price: around $ 7 for a coffee and a bfast sammy Your tastebuds: tickled I would recommend the bacon egg and cheese, my personal fave. You can also sub the bacon for taylor ham or sausage. Don’t tell too many people though, I hate waiting in line! Shhhhhh!!!

SURPRISINGLYDELICIOUS — here’s why: Never before have I looked forward to eating in the airport. Now, that story has changed. I ordered the black bean burger with american cheese, avocado, tomato, and spicy mayo, all on a wheat bun. It was SODELICIOUS. It was very flavorful and hot and fresh. This filled me up for hours and was moderately healthy, too. Overall, I am not surprised there was such a line.

My gf and I had an early flight and my co-worker dropped us off around 6am at terminal C. The diner place was closed so we wondered around in search of coffee and something to-go. I totally ignored my friends suggestion on not to eat anything heavy prior to an international flight and ordered the EWR breakfast burger. I had a tummy virus a couple of months ago on my way towards China. I was miserable for 3 days and nights. I should have learned my lesson but I still devoured the EWR special. The only thing I would not recommend is eating this heavy burger with coffee. It’s not a doughnut. It’s 2 days worth of calories not so neatly compacted in your hands. I did not get the fries. I didn’t want to ruin my diet. I don’t understand the low starage. Smash burger is way better than most places(ahem, *cough* *Cough* 5 hombres and Mickey D’s). I’m glad most of United is flights are out of Terminal C. Now I know where to pig out before I fly out to somewhere where my only source of protein may be from terminates and worms.
