And it’s finally closed down, i guess the owner taking over finally drove it into ground. the place had potential and at one point it was fun. to bad that old lady took over and ruined it all.

I’ve been going to this bar for years now and I use to enjoy it, but recently its the absolute last place i’d pick to go out to. There always seems to be 1 bartender in particular that is working every time I go(Friday nights usually) and she just has no personality what so ever, she is very rude and not friendly. Also, they only except cash which I cant stand, and i’m sorry but i refuse to pay $ 8 for well vodka and cran. this isn’t SF. The only thing I do like is they usually have a pretty good DJ.

Interesting place… such a diverse clientele… didn’t really know what to make of this place. It’s in a bit of an odd location, nestled in a shopping plaza/strip mall. The place is initially much bigger that it looks like from the outside. Whiskeytown is set up for live music, has a DJ, pool tables and a small dance floor. It’s basically a big neighborhood dive bar.

Found this through Unilocal so my friends and I decided to check it out on a Thursday night. My friends and I had went up to the bar separately for drinks throughout the night and we all had complaints about the bartender being too busy with her conversation(too busy diverting her attention to men hitting on her) to wait on us. Generally, I have no problem with a bartender making small talk to a regular, however, please don’t give me the«1 moment» finger and making it 5 minutes of wait. Also, do not hold that finger up to me during your conversation — it’s rude.

Interesting place. It is hidden on the side of a strip mall in Newark, I never knew this place existed. They have a pretty modern juke, several pool tables and lots of TVs. However on the down side, they don’t have food and the bar tender was not too friendly. Looks like they have a set of regulars and the bar tender was super friendly with them and cold to the new folks and no acknowledgement for the tip either. Perhaps they are happy with sticking to just their regulars. That is their prerogative but I am out.

This place has gone down sense Danny left, the owner doesn’t have a clue! And if the rumors are correct, hopefully she sells the place soon! I decided to be DD last night for my friends. I ordered are soft drink and they charge me $ 3, ok, that’s cool. But hear is the part that pissed me off… they want to charge a DD for EVERY soft drink after that too! Are you F’ing kidding me, no wonder she is losing her A$$!!! And they never have hand soap in the men bathroom… most of the time, no paper towels. WTF, the $hit is gross! Isn’t that a State and/or Federal regulation!?! Come on Health Department, get in there and bust her A$$ !!! Just saying, there are better bars in the area!

Ginormous big screen tvs ideal for watching football. The beer selection is of above average cost and average variety and the bar itself is of average cleanliness. This place has a right angel«L shape» pool table in addition to standard pool tables. Overall a decent place to watch the game, play pool and have a drink at the same time.

This is a dive bar, so don’t expect too much from it. I have lived within walking distance from this place since I was 10 and have never heard of this place until last year.(But my parents seem to know all about it o_O) The joint is a little hidden and may be hard to find if you’re looking for it. It’s towards the back of the parking lot and in the corner. The décor is old and just like any other bar/pool hall. The ladies behind the bar always gives a strong pour. One star. Their hours are reasonable(they’re pretty much open all the time!), one star. Drink prices are fair(especially for how much alchy you get), another star. The cheap pool tables, another star. However, the L shaped table seems to be broken everytime I go… They do got a live band/karaōke section in the back of the bar with projectors and a stage and couches which is pretty cool. The reason why it doesn’t have all the stars is because it’s usually not my crowd and songs have to get paid for… but then again, it’s a dive bar and a hole in the wall so maybe I’m just expecting too much. Regardless, it’s a great place to hang out… but it just can get REALLY awkwardly quiet when it’s not on the peak days(I think Thursdays they hire a DJ) and/or when there’s no one in the bar(which is almost all the time).

I am giving this place 3 starts for the layout and the cool looking L shaped pool table. HOWEVER A lemon drop and a Jim Beam for 14 bucks — We are still in a strip mall in Newark, right? We didn’t transport to SF? OK, just checking, because I am at a bar next to a Taco Bell in Newark and you just charged me SF prices for a cocktail. Dive/Hole in the wall bars are not supposed to charge 7 bucks a drink — bu-BYE Whiskeytown, see you never again.

So I came in here when we were looking for drinks on a saturday night and a friend’ smartphone let us know there was a place called«Whiskeytown» near us. So its not the best looking place out there. Its hidden in this dirty stripmall right as you get into Newark. Inside the place looks genuinely ratty. Its falling apart, the pool tables are shabby but it has a few things going for it: Inexpensive drinks, local(no need to drive to San Jose), STRONG drinks — the bartender girl even told me she made it strong as shit and she wasn’t kidding. And can’t ignore the foxy female bartenders. The corset and miniskirt combo is an amazing conversation killer. Friend 1: Well are we gonna see Flogging Molly next month? Friend 2: I gotta request the time off next week because the TPS reports are due on… *Ms.Corset walks by* Friend 2:…uh, due on — the um *stammers* Friend 1: — Umm… what?

+Drinks are cheap. +Old DJ(Some beanie wearing asian(latin?) kid with his chubby partner with 2 speakers and a system) was on point, really good. –Looks like a country bar. Not into that. –New DJ(old man?) was not up to par. –Black friends had problems. All my homies use to come here, but not no more.

My friend and I were looking for something to do around town so we Unilocaled. Who knew in the back of this shopping plaza lies a dive bar? We were unsure of the gps telling us to go into the shopping center but alas we found it. As we walked in at 10:30pm it was pretty empty. The drinks weren’t expensive at all. We sat down at the bar and order ourselves some drinks. There were a plethora of pool tables and some decent lighting and a DJ. Although if i saw the DJ on the street. I wouldn’t assume that he was a DJ. I thought his music was pretty good, top 40 mainly, but it seemed like some people there didn’t enjoy it? they were competing with the jukebox and the DJ which i thought was odd. We left after a couple of drinks. but hey at least i can say i’ve been to Whiskeytown Saloon in Newark.

CLEANFRIENDLY and REASONABLE! What more is there. The staff go out of there way to take care of you. They have 11 high def TVs. Wii ps3 and Xbox. 5 pool tables and Foosball, megatouch and an old school table top arcade game. Free food from time to time and one of the best juke boxes I’ve seen. I moved here in december, have checked out all the local haunts and all roads lead back here every time. Couple and large group friendly. I keep to myself but enjoy the mixed crowd and safe friendly environment. Really a treasure in Newark.

The owner read my post and tells me that I’m incorrect. She would like me to come by some time to have a chat. I really appreciate that. It truly is kind and shows that the owner is proactive. Yet, it doesn’t change the crowd that goes there! Again, I advise to stay away based on 2 things: the crowd and the local cops.

2 stars for the fooseball, Only 2 because I waited 20min to get a beer and didn’t get anything. Put $ 5 in the machine to hear music while I waited, 15min later still no beer(after reminding her that I already ordered) Got my beer 45min later. I only waited to get my music I payed for. Good people tho

I never knew there was a bar buried in the back of this shopping center. I’ve passed by this shopping center on numerous occasions, and even stopped at the liquor store next to it, but NEVER noticed this bar. I loved the décor of this bar! It was soo«homey» type. Pretty decent sized bar. They had plenty of tables, and pool tables in the back. Some of them were messed up and had missing balls, so it’s a hit or miss with those tables. Besides, Billiard’s shut down, so what’s not to love about a bar with pool table(s)? TV in the back too, and they have one video game machine. Some boxing game. The bartender was UBBERLY sweet! She was really jolly and cheerful, but really nice and funny. The button on the diet coke nozzle broke, and she kept filling up cups of coke and lining them on the bar. Highlight of the night. Haha! She even gave me a list of names of local bars because I told her my friends and I were having a trouble finding a good bar in the area. OKAY bar, I’ll be returning.

I was here yesterday on a Tuesday night. The bar is pretty big and with really REALLY friendly folks who go here! The crowd is mixed young and old. We had a balsy guy go up to our table and started talking to us and wanting to play drinking games, he was Italian and Filipino and kind of cute. This other older gentleman order us girls a round of whatever we were drinking, in my case a blue moon. The awesome thing about this place is they have free pool with 4 tables! The sucky thing is you have to pay for music =(. I’ll go back here again. pretty cool place to hang out and drink.

I only went in on a Sunday daytime and the place is cool. There’s free food during that time. The owner is really cool, and so is all the staff. The bartenders are very nice. They have a few pool tables, an L shaped one, and 1 foosball. There is 1 game I don’t know what the heck is, but yeah they have it. The favorite game is the punching arcade machine that costs a dollar. I bet that thing rakes in all kinds of cash. I only landed an 884 on power, my cousin got 951. The front half of the bar is cool. It really feels like a saloon. The stage-designed walls on the wall opposite the bar are real cool. I caught myself staring at the nipples of the silhouette in the windows. There are plenty of TVs to watch football on, and you can even borrow a «speaker» to tune into the sound for the game you wanna listen to. I am still wondering what is behind the half wall on the other side of the pool tables…

This is the local spot to be, well if you live in Newark and Fremont lol. Otherwise don’t bother going here, its just a hole in the wall bar with a juke box. I happen to like hole in the wall places and there isn’t much to choose from in Fremont/Newark area. They do have alot of TV’s and play all the sports games. I just go to have a drink and chill. There are always the regulars hanging out who are super nice and friendly.

This is definitely a neighborhood bar. I like how they have a homey atmosphere where it’s not too stuffy. I have either come right after work or right before I go home after a night out. The drinks are inexpensive and reasonable, a major plus after a night out. Late at night can sometimes be questionable, since there are usually a few people hanging out outside and it’s not well lit. However, there are a two drive-thru fast food spots in the same shopping plaza making is super convenient to grab a quick drink(or two) and grab a bite to eat after.
