I came to this place after a hike at Storm King. The inside is really nice and has a great outdoor seating area with a view of the river. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Everything on the menu looks incredible. It took me a while to decide what to get but I went with the grilled shrimp and lump crab wrap. My girlfriend got the fish tacos. Both of us ate everything. The seafood was fresh and delicious. I am definitely going back as it is my goal to try every single thing on this menu. Thank you Captain Jake for a wonderful first visit!

I didn’t even eat here. As soon as I was about to step in I passed the kitchen(which is open on the side of the entrance) and saw someone from the kitchen drop a piece of meat they were cutting on the floor. They literally picked it up and put it back in the bowl. Disgusting. I turned right back around and didn’t even go in.

I have eaten at Captain Jake’s numerous times and every time it just gets better & better! The fish is incredibly fresh and I am thrilled that they have added an oyster bar! When I look at reviews by B.R.(13 reviews and counting) I am always suspicious! It seems B.R. gives every restaurant a ‘bad’ review! Maybe ‘B.R.’ should stay home and do the cooking!

Went there today. Service was horrible and one of the entrees ordered by my group was far from fresh fish. To sum it ip. For the price this was not a good dining experience

Wavering between 3 – 4 stars, I am going with 3 because our server was so uninformed. She did not understand the meaning of a fresh fruit frozen margarita. The Blood Orange margarita I ended up ordering was so awful, that I sent it back. The owner or manager was gracious about replacing it with a glass of Pinot Grigio– which was very good — and reasonable at $ 6.00(margarita was $ 10.00). I had some delicious and very fresh R.I. Oysters. The Romes were especially tasty. I could have devoured a dozen. $ 21.00 will get you Twin Lobster Rolls, which are not bad at all — though the rolls needed more butter. Sure, they wont’ be as fresh tasting or as loaded as what you will find in Maine, but having lowered our expectations, we were pleased. The fries were okay, and the slaw very good. Beer comes in a frosted glass. The coffee was quite good. Lunch ran us $ 83.00 before tip. That was AFTER I discovered that our server forgot to remove the charge for the margarita. We would return. (I would give those oysters 5 stars)

Great location. Food was better than expected. Odd beer selection though. 2 pumpkin ales and too many IPAs on tap at once. Also, their timing for reservations was inefficient so we had to sit at the bar and eat dinner despite 40% of the tables seemed to be open… …whats up with the lottery tickets being sold at the bar?

A great find on the waterfront in Newburgh. Great food(the cherry stone clams and lobster were fantastic!). Our waitress Nicole was great from the start, we loved her… always smiling and energetic and very knowledgable regarding the wine and food menu. Thank you Nicole!

This place was amazing! Great food portion and prices. We Had the blackened cod fish tacos and fried atlantic cod sandwich and both were delicious. Very friendly staff. Would highly recommend. Had a pleasant first experience and would stop again.

I went to captain jakes on a Saturday around 3pm. Not particularly busy, but not empty. Service was friendly but slow. The outdoor seating was nice and I had a good view of the river. I had the crab cakes and lazy man’s lobster. The crab cakes were pretty good. The lobster was tougher than I am used to and kind of bland. I’m not a huge lobster person, but I certainly wasn’t impressed.

Captain Jakes is located on the Newburgh waterfront on the Hudson river. I do frequently go to the waterfront to eat. Captain Jack’s is probably my favorite seafood place down at the waterfront. I really want to give this place five stars. Unfortunately the bartender ruin the five star rating for me. I will explain to my review. Captain Jakes is located next to Billy Joe rib works at the far end of the waterfront. They offer indoor and outdoor seating along the river. I do not know what the scene is here at night but I know during the day it’s mostly older retired people sitting down and having a nice lunch. There bar has a good variety of alcohol from top shelf liquor all the way to low end. The entire back of their menu is dedicated to their wine list. Most of their drinks were around nine to $ 10 a drink. There bartender was extremely rude. Had a really bad scowl on her face. When you have to stand at the bar for 10 minutes at 1 o’clock in the afternoon and all the bartender keeps doing is talking to one of the customers in my opinion that is really bad customer service. Especially when there are only 4 people at the bar. I ended up not getting anything to drink because of the bartender. she just let me stand there. As somebody who frequents the waterfront often and knows the owner of the restaurant next-door I was very shocked that I had to stand there for 10 minutes and I didn’t even get it knowledged so I went to go sit back down at a table. Our waitress on the other hand was extremely nice and friendly she was very knowledgeable about the menu she knew all of the specials on the top of her head. When she took our order she didn’t have to write anything that we said down. She remembered everything we ordered and when our food came out it was just as we had ordered she was very precise and I wish I had remembered her name she was excellent. I would definitely hire her. The food they serve here Captain Jack’s is mostly seafood they do have burgers and chicken but their specialty is seafood dishes. They do offer a soup of the day that you have to ask for. I had the fish tacos with the catch of the day it was extremely good for 14 box I would buy that all day. Somebody else I was with had the crabcake wrap they said it was very good. The burgers here are very big and the bacon is very crispy on top of the burgers. In my opinion it’s very difficult to find a good seafood place in this area this happens to be one of my favorite seafood places in the area. Whoever the chef is they know what they’re doing and I am always very impressed. Not that this is a big deal. The only other thing that I did notice. When we were leaving the hostess was sitting at the front she stared right at us and didn’t say thank you for coming have a good day she just stared at us. I thought that was interesting but it’s not a big deal. I told her I hope that you had a good day she didn’t respond to me. Overall I definitely recommend Captain Jake’s they have good outdoor and indoor seating that overlooks the Hudson river. Our waitress year was very nice and a tentative. I don’t know how this place is at night but I know during mid day it can be enjoyable. PROS: — great seafood — our waitress was awesome — outdoor seating on the Hudson CONS: — bartender was not happy and I stood there 10 mins without being acknowledged. It was 1pm in the afternoon.

On quite the interesting Friday nite, my partner and I ended up eating here for the first time due to an unfortunate experience at our first choice restaurants. You know how they say, everything happens for a reason! Well this was by far one of those times! Our server, Amanda was an absolute doll and not one drink nor bite of food was anywhere near disappointing. The owner even stopped by our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. The hospitality was beyond words and made for an unforgettable experience! Thank you so much!

Great spot, period. The food is always ridiculously good. The raw bar is a wonderful addition to beautiful bar. The entire staff is extremely nice and attentive. The bartenders Jess and Nicole are awesome. Not overly priced with a good selection of everything. The bar has bottles and tap beer. A gigantic selection of liquors. One of my favorite places in the area.

4 Stars in Unilocal means«Yay! I’m a fan.» And that’s the case. I just had my first visit to Jake’s and it won’t be my last. We had a lovely evening with friends on the Newburgh Waterfront and Jake’s was casual and relaxed in its atmosphere. We enjoyed a nice selection of wines by the glass and some crispy calamari to start. Dinner choices were Salmon, Stuffed Cod, and Blacked Grouper(might have been a special). All were very well prepared. I’d have the Cod again… YUM! Service was prompt and attentive and our server knew when to let us enjoy the view and visit with our guests and was not pushy. Price tag — 2 cocktails, 5 glasses of wine, 2 apps, 4 entrees, one dessert and a coffee, — $ 250 with tip. I look forward to my next visit.

Capt jakes is easily my favorite restaurant on the waterfront! The newly renovated bar is beautiful and sits next to a new raw bar they’ve included. The food is outstanding! And priced much more reasonable than Blu Pointe. The salmon and crab cakes are my personal favorite. Staff and management are attentive and friendly. The vibe is fun which makes the experience that much more enjoyable! and it doesn’t hurt that the food runner is very easy on the eyes! Haha I think his name was Zach. I would definitely recommend capt jakes to anyone looking for a delicious seafood meal, on the Newburgh waterfront!

I find that when you come to the Newburgh waterfront, you pay for the atmosphere, but not so much the food. This is the case when it comes to Captain Jake’s as well. While the food is good, the prices are not on par in my opinion. Having said that, I’ve been here on several occasions, and I can say that I definitely enjoy this place more so than any other on this strip of restaurants. With my parents and brother in town for the weekend, they wanted a seafood restaurant and for it to be near the river. Captain Jake’s satisfies both of those criteria with its plethora of seafood options(raw bar, cod, crab cakes, lobster bisque, etc) and outdoor seating by the Hudson river. They even have a portobello sandwich with roasted peppers that my vegetarian wife absolutely loves We started with some raw options(little neck clams and oysters) which were very fresh. Having had the fried oyster and shrimp po boy sandwich my first few times here, I decided to try the fish and chips. My mother followed suit, and I only bring this up for the reason that our pieces of cod varied drastically(she of course had the smaller piece). The cod was actually pretty tasty and definitely not the Gorton’s Fisherman type that I find some restaurants to try and pass for their fish and chips. My father had a wrap with shrimp and crab cakes. He debated his selection and nearly changed it after the order was put in, but he was happy he didn’t Overall the food here is good. Not great. But certainly worth checking out if you’re going to be down on the waterfront in Newburgh. Just be prepared to pay a little more than you would at restaurants more in land.

Interesting place. My husband and I stopped by on our way upstate. The food was good. We had clams for appetizer and it was extremely delicious. And, we also had crab and shrimp wraps. Unfortunately, the shrimps were a little over cooked but overall that was one yummy wrap! The place has great ambience and very friendly and attentive staff. Would recommend if you have a craving for seafood :)

My first time at captain jakes was great. Service was super(thanks, Nicole!) we sat outside and enjoyed the view. Our appetizers(fried calamari, colossal shrimp and meat on a stick) were all tasty and served on a generous bed of greens. Our entrees(lobster roll, grouper and filet in a mushroom brandy cream sauce) were superb. The wine selection was good and fair priced. They have many raw bar options. The interior was decorated nicely, very open and bright, though it was loud(Saturday night). I will definitely be returning. All prices were reasonable, especially for a waterfront restaurant… They weren’t overcharging for the view. Try them!

I was very pleasantly surprised with my experience at Captain Jacks. It’s a very cozy environment with a beautiful view of the Hudson. The food is solid. I strongly recommend the clam chowder. The grilled cod sandwich and the crab cakes are also good, although the crab cakes would be better with less breading. The meals also come with huge salads, with dark greens! I’ll definitely come back.

Great food. Great service. Be smart, make a reservation. I did see a few people get turned away at the door that did not have one. Get a table outside. The view is worth it. Although, inside is very nice also and the bar is very much up to par. I will go again. Great time.
