Not worth the wait. Took 30 min to get terrible food. Staff were scattered and forgetful. Did not enjoy

2012 I posted a review for one of my favorite restaurants. Now, the only thing that comes to mind is the phrase, «penny wise — pound foolish». Where do I start… for starters the freshness that was is not quite there anymore. The meatballs and dumplings were dry with little taste. The chicken tempura was overcooked, hard, and clearly from frozen. One of the biggest draws and the most popular calling card for RG was their fried wontons with their signature ‘spicy mayo’, an appetizer that was known throughout the Hudson Valley… not anymore. 1.) Their most popular item no longer appears on the«new concept» buffet menu for neither the lunch nor the dinner menu. 2.) When ordered as a side dish, they were tiny… I mean T.I.N.Y. Clearly they are trying to save some money by cutting down on the portions, but yikes. 3.) There is no ‘spicy mayo’ anymore, just duck sauce now. Some of the reviews indicate a new limitation on the ‘concept’ buffet. No more than an hour of eating with the concept… and again, I get it. Trying to keep costs down. The problem and concern I have with this is that at times I have waited up to 45 minutes before they brought out the main trays of sushi(esp during the lunch time crowd). Salad and appetizers are plenty but a significant wait for the sushi itself. At times then, it would be up to 20 or 30 minutes before they would bring the next tray of sushi… by that time, times up! If you’re only given 15 minutes to eat and paying $ 15-$ 30 I have a significant issue with that. I don’t know that it’s worth it anymore. Penny wise, pound foolish… They may be saving a few penny’s everyday by cutting down, however, they are going to lose a lot of money through customers not coming back, negative reviews, and more importantly word of mouth. You know how word spreads in the Hudson Valley! The owner is constantly(and I mean constantly) changing the restaurant around. Never have I been in there where I have ever seen the restaurant in the same configuration, colors, design, or layout as I did the previous visit. Maybe he needs to significantly cut down on the redecorating budget and put the quality, quantity, and freshness of their items back on the menu. Cutting out fried wontons and spicy mayo? That’s like Red Lobster if they pulled their cheddar bay biscuits… What are they thinking???

I used to go here all the time for lunch. The service is usually pretty good, and the décor is great, but the layout kept changing it so it was confusing. Seemed every time I went back the furniture was moved or they added some big feature that wasn’t there before or changed the menu and pricing. The menu had a lot of rules which turned me off. They used to offer an all you could eat sushi lunch special. They would bring over trays of sushi and you could pick what you wanted. It was fairly priced for lunch. However, I went back for dinner one time and the price for the same thing was double! They also had some disclaimer that you have to eat all the sushi in an hour or some crazy rule. Restaurants should not tell me how long I’m going to take to eat. After that, I stopped going as much. Also, the rolls kept getting tinier and tinier like they were trying to save money or something. The takeout place next door has some of the best Chinese takeout in the area. I started getting that instead. Great place, just didn’t like the sushi menu rules and the inconsistency of décor and pricing. The food quality is really good though and the owner is really nice!

Went there yesterday a 2:45 pm for sushi to go and it was a total waste money. The place was bairley open with no customers in the establishment and the woman who made the go order was obviously not a sushi chef. The rolls were sloppy and poorly constructed and not worth the price by far. They were out of some items I wanted to order and they did not have their act together. Come on people it’s a Saturday afternoon. Get it together. I tried this place for the first time and I will never be back. They could care less about quality. Horrendous!!! I use to be a fan of this place years ago but they have gone down hill. They charge more and the sushi is ridiculously smaller no lie my spicy tuna roll was only 5% tuna and no bigger than a nickel. They also charge extra for every little thing. I live fairly close to this place about 3 min away and I will drive all the way to new paltz or beacon for better sushi. Such a shame this place went down hill

Best Chinese food in the area. I will not eat anywhere else for Chinese. The chicken and broccoli is amazing as well as the dumplings and fried wontons. Recommend!

I went to this place maybe 3 years ago had a bad experience and didn’t go back until recently. Me and my brother were hungry for lunch so we figured we’d try it again. We waited 35 mins for our lunch box to come out and when it did it was afwaul. The steak looked awful and tasted even worse. I don’t have a dog but if I did I wouldn’t off given it to him to eat. We then drove across the river and had a great meal at a place we go often. The sushi here is good but way over priced. I will never return here. Avoid at all costs. if I could I’d give it 0 stars!!!

I ordered 4 sushi rolls and crab rangoons last night as take out and my fiancé and I were extremely disappointed. The rangoons had less than a teaspoon of crab meat and tasted more like cream cheese than crab. The rolls were small and tasted very bland. We ordered 3 specialty rolls(spiderman, slamming tiffy and volcano) and 1 plain roll(spicy tuna). Also, it was very expensive for such little amount of food. Overall our experience was poor and we will never be back again. *If I could give zero stars I would.

The service was great however the food was not. Small portions, high prices and luke warm food. Not worth it. I probably will not be back here.

I walked in to order take-out for dinner since I was driving by and had never been here before. My order included sushi and several other things. The staff was courteous and efficient. I received my order pretty quickly and left without having encountered any issues. Given the quality of the food(average at best), the sushi was highly overpriced and everything else was moderately overpriced. For dinner or sushi I probably won’t come here again — the price was too high for mediocre food. If the quantity or quality of food was higher I’d be more lenient with my rating, but I unfortunately found both to be slightly lacking. Judging from my one visit I wouldn’t recommend Red Ginger Sushi, as there are better places in the local area.

My review isn’t for the sushi. I don’t eat raw fish and prob never will. But my receipt said red ginger for my Chinese food. There is a place called Chopsticks attached to red ginger is ok for a Chinese food place. Nothing special. I have heard red ginger had good sushi. But I don’t eat sushi so I can’t comment on that but chopsticks does have all the American style Chinese dishes. I ordered from chopsticks about 6 months ago on the way back from a night partying and after I ate the food I got super sick. I started puking non stop about 30 after I ate the food. I ordered from them again and the food was ok. I have had way better Chinese in LA and NYC. The food here is super cheap. I did not get sick this time. The reason I ordered here was the other place in Newburgh told me they don’t deliver. The receptionist spoke perfect English and was accommodating. I don’t know if I would order from here again. My food i had tonight was super spicy. Like to the point I was coughing. It was hotter that a habanero pepper hot. That’s not what I ordered. But the food didn’t make me sick this time. The best thing is there soup. PROS: –cheap –the soup CONS: –made me sick –the spicy food was way hotter than I thought hotter than a habanero hot

The food is just ok. Nothing special. All you can eat sushi is not bad. The appetizers vary greatly in quality from visit to visit as does the sushi and the attitude of the staff. My biggest peeve here is staff related. The girls that work there are just rude. They don’t interact nicely with the customers and certainly don’t apologize for their mistakes. Management PLEASEWAKEUP and get a wait staff that can be friendly and polite to customers, especially when they answer the phone to take an order! I am definitely not going back here.

Awesome lunch spot! I got a Korean BBQ Beef Bento Box. It came with tons of delicious food for less than $ 10. Beef, noodles, rice, sushi roll, edaname, fried dumplings, miso soup & salad. Needless to say I was stuffed and had to take some home. Very flavorful meal! They also have an ‘all you can eat sushi’ lunch special for like $ 16. The only negative was when our waitress disappeared for a good 20 min. just as we finished our meal, leaving us to literally sit and wait for her & the check. I would deff. go back to this place!

The sushi is well prepared and the passion fruit bubble tea is to die for. The quality of the food does not downgrade when you order for delivery.

LOVETHISPLACE!!! Let me start by stating that I read a lot of the reviews and it seems like a lot of people didn’t seem to understand the ‘Concept’ buffet — as I have been a frequent customer of theirs since they opened let me help explain… The ‘Concept’ is an all you can eat buffet style meal. Appx $ 16 for lunch and $ 25 for dinner. The difference is most buffets you get up to get what you want, in this case they bring a LARGE tray and you pick which ones you would like. Each meal comes with soup, salad and usually a minimum of 7 different appetizers. Yes, the portions are small as stated in previous comments — BUT if you ask they will keep bringing you as much of each of the soup, salad AND appetizers as you would like… you just have to ask, again the ‘unlimited’ includes the appetizers as well as the sushi. I walk in and they automatically know to just keep bringing the fried won-tons till I walk out… yes, they are that good(had them cater just the won-tons for my daughters birthday). The chef does make the sushi and as stated in earlier comments they do not ask you what type you would like. The tray usually has 7 – 10 different types on it, and you can pick what you would like. If you tell them what type of sushi you like they will make it for you, but again you have to ASK — they are more than happy to make it. Again, when I come in I will tell the waitress at the start to ask the chef to make a ton of chicken tempura and Alaska rolls because I know those are my kids favorites. The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is wonderful, yes it looks questionable from outside but WOW is it good inside. Now to be fair, as much as I love the food and the concept itself(such a good value), there are things I have experienced that I don’t care for too much. It is ALWAYS freezing cold — even in the summer time, so bring a sweater or jacket. The service can be great or horrible — its 50⁄50. The servers are always friendly but their return trip times to the table can leave a lot to be desired. Yet even knowing this does not deter me from going back… and I always will!
