The food was great and even when my stomach hurt the food was so good that I just had to eat all the hash browns and bacon

I’m not from this town, and found this on Unilocal. This was the best breakfast by far! I could write pages so instead I’ll list pros and cons: Pros: 1) amazing wait staff, deserves applause and raises. I had Carina and she was so sweet, and patient with my questions about all their options. At the end, I felt I had made a friend. Model of service, all cafes should take note. 2) food was delish. Had the Horchata French toast, kids had pancakes and bacon. 3) the homemade coffee CREAMERS! Flavors were strudel, vanilla bean, Mexican(Mex chocolate), and sweet cream. I had the strudel, YUM! Seriously the Best coffee I’ve ever had. I bought two creamers to go. 4) Homemade jams– 4 unique flavors and so fresh. Awesome. Bought one to go. 5) other staff– the head chef came out and shook my hand, so nice! What floored me though, I wanted to purchase the creamers but I had a 2 hour drive home to the OC. Dilemma in keeping them cold. The staff went above and beyond and put the creamers in a crate with a plastic liner, added ice and put my two creamers in it. Seriously, the best can-do attitude! Love them. Cons: They aren’t in my hometown Mission Viejo. Sigh. I’ll be having dreams of this place. Thanks to all at Cathy’s.

It’s great to discover there’s more to Santa Clarita than the monotony of mediocre chain restaurants. Cathy’s is rocking it with passion and damn good, unexpected fare. My sister has been squawking about Carlos’s kick-ass cooking and so it was a must to meet her for breakfast on my way to LA. Poached eggs, mashed potatoes and toast points with froie gras? Yes, please! Buttery gnochhi with parmesan & poached eggs? Decadent indeed. And yes, if you are looking for the standard omelets and french toast, well, they deliver as well. Don’t judge the book by its cover, because this ain’t your granny’s deli, even though its located in a ubiquitous suburban strip mall. Owner Eric may play it safe when it comes to satisfying Cathy’s former patrons with typical deli fare, but he and chef Carlos are having some fun with daily specials and pop-up dinners that are infused with great possibilities for the evolution of this café or future venture. Such as… the authentic street food of Mexico City, served experimentally on recent Monday nights, including this night, before my return trip north. The chicken taco with a beautifully balanced mole was super, and the«elote» corn cob, the richest creamy bites of corn I’ve ever enjoyed. Fresh chips, home-made salsas(of course) killer potato quesadillas– would keep me coming back weekly. Keep on keeping on, Eric, Carlos and staff. You are destined for sharing your good taste in the SCV and beyond. Ever been to San Rafael?

I love this restaurant now that it has changed owners. I could go on about the homemade creamers and jams, amazing specials. Today I’m am enjoying their Monday Taco night. Authentic Mexico City dishes. To good to be true!

I could eat here every day. I’ve been here three years and can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted not knowing about this place. We had six people going out after my son’s 6th grade promotion and the reviews were so good we thought we’d try it. I had strawberry crepes and they were the best crepes I’ve ever had. We all tried each others food and there wasn’t one thing that wasn’t fantastic. We’ll go back every chance we get.

Food is either really good, or fair. If you order the Orchatta French Toast please allow an extra 20 minutes for it to arrive. My husband ordered it yesterday and his food finally arrived after everyone in our party had finished their breakfast. No advance notice from our waitress. My CA omelette wasn’t very good, chicken inside was bland. Potatoes weren’t done, still crunchy. Disappointed in the visit.

Holy shit… I can’t believe this diamond of a restaurant exists in Newhall/Santa Clarita! I stumbled upon this place on accident while doing a random Unilocal search. It’s tucked in a small strip mall and is very nondescript. I had a bit of hesitation when I walked up but the«Stumptown coffee» sign provided the reassurance to give it try and boy am I glad I did. Service is great with a friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the corn beef hash breakfast and the order was fast and cooked perfectly. The English muffin with house made jam was delicious and is a must try. Coffee is Stumptown so it obviously didn’t disappoint. I had the privilege of meeting the owner Eric. Super cool dude and a wealth of food knowledge. He even brought over house made lavender blueberry ice cream for me to sample. This is now my go to place for breakfast every Wednesday when I’m in town for meetings. SECRETTIP: They’re doing private prix fixe dinners so inquire within if you’re a local!

One of the best breakfast places in Santa Clarita. This place has changed hands a few times over the years and my friends and I would always go there because it was decent and it wasn’t crowded. The only bad thing about the new owners is that it’s so good, the place is packed all the time! Looking for an awesome, organic breakfast with a slight sense of hipster-ism? Look no further! Nice folks, good food! Love!

Cathy’s is far superior to the other brunch place in Newhall that shall not be named, imo. Far more inventive(horchata french toast, homemade creamer, homemade jam in flavors like strawberry earl grey, weekly themed employee outfit days), more delicious, and much less of a wait. Staff is always kind. When I was waiting for the rest of my party, the waiter offered us complimentary toast and jam which was delicious. It sounds weird, but definitely try the blueberry rosemary or something like that. The breakfast burritos and accompanying salsa are amazing, and so are the few bites I stole of my girlfriend’s horchata french toast. My friend was sworn to IHOP, but after one visit called Cathy’s the best breakfast spot in town. Also, super LGBT friendly. The bathrooms are both proudly gender neutral which is awesome in a place like Santa Clarita. The hometown diner that SCV needed.

Everything was mediocre. I don’t go out and spend 15 bucks on breakfast for a mediocre experience. I don’t expect the ritz Carlton, but get my order right, bring my food out all at once without me having to ask for the pancakes you forgot, and maybe bring my food out while it is still hot, and since you left my pancakes siting on the food runners table and let them get cold maybe look at what you’re serving me before you drop it off. A puddle of butter on an already stale pancake? What? Just avoid this place. By no means terrible but it’s just like everything is done without care or understanding of how it fits into the operation of the restaurant. A bunch of workers shoddily going through motions but not working as a team. The bus boy came and removed the sugar from my table while I was still drinking coffee. I assume to refill it or maybe to transition to lunch? They serve breakfast all day leave the freaking sugar on the table, so l don’t have to ask for it back when you refilled my coffee and you look at me like a puzzled idiot and go «oh… Oh yeah…» Right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing and isn’t even aware it has two feet who are probably also stepping on each other. It really comes down to poor training and poor management. The potential of this place makes it a shame they don’t operate better. Won’t be coming back, I suggest you don’t come in the first place.

This place is not the old Cathy’s something New and wonderful is here now! Hate to let the secret out– HOMEMADEJAMS! Stumptown Coffee-that right there when I saw that sign wow-now this is for FOODIES !! Lox-eggs-onions-good enough for my FIL and he has been eating LOX/eggs/onions and a devout fan of Brent’s Deli in the Valley so if it passed him! I have to go back and try the other menu items! Breakfast has a new place to go in SantaClarita! Open until 3pm–

This is a cool deli in the area. I’ve been for both breakfast and lunch. I like the new age vibe they have. If you follow them on Instagram they have a theme for the weekend and wear related shirts. The day I recently went it was Ninja Turtles and it changes each week and gives a small discount. I think that’s a fun way to engage the staff and customers. The food is pretty good and ingredients fresh and I get the sense that they take pride in their cooking. On my recent visit I got the corned beef hash, it was good but its not the hash that I like but that is purely personal preference. I ordered poached eggs with it and it came in a separate bowl but with water and I would have preferred they separated that from the water and just put it on my plate(other places I frequent for breakfast do this), if so much care is going to be put into the other aspects of the food prep this seems like a small oversight. I like that they have a variety of unique jams to choose from. I also like that they are trying different things like they are doing a special Sunday dinner here soon as a first time effort to drive in business in a creative way and I think that’s cool. I have something that day otherwise I would have purchased tickets, maybe next time. Parking is ‘okay’, the spots are a little small for normal spaces and the lot can get a bit busy. If you have a nice car you might want to park further away or on the street so someone doesn’t ding you(its pretty close fitting). Service was good, always someone floating by and feels like genuine team work with everyone working together versus as individuals which I liked.

My husband was off today and begged him to take me to Cathy’s because I have heard nothing but amazing thing. Let me tell you between what a friend told me and what I read on Unilocal it didn’t disappoint. The hubby got the Rubin omelette. He said it was so good and thought the mustard would be too much, nope it was perfect. Hubby got pancakes to go with his omelette and OMG, they were the size of my face). I got the horchata French toast. It was delicious, not too sweet, but sweet enough that I didn’t need syrup. We also got a sampler of their HOMEMADEJAMS, yes I just said homemade jams. Now my favorite was the raspberry rosewater, the crazy thing is I am not a big raspberry fan. I also really liked the strawberry Earl gray. Eric the owner is such a great guy! He came over multiple times to see how things were. He even gave me a sample of the cabbage and matzo ball soup. The place in general is so cute btw! It is a mix of a hipster looking diner. I love it! Oh! I forgot our server(sorry forgot her name) was just the sweetest thing ever. Can’t wait to come back for another meal soon.

Used Unilocal to find a mom and pop diner and ran into Cathy’s Breakfast Café on my way to San Jose for the weekend. I am giving this place an A-Ok rating because it was a bit underwhelming. The service was fine but there was just nothing special about this place. The eggs were regular and the potatoes were forgettable. My fiancé and I tried different jellies and although they were good, again, nothing special. I support small businesses but if I had a choice between this and another mom and pop I’d try something else first. If you want a simple, to the point breakfast, you have found the place and definitely worth a shot.

What a gem here in SCV! Cathy’s is a new favorite place for hubby and me after our experience today. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. A little different, a little unusual but bright and cheery — and someone has some pretty awesome chalk art skills there. I loved, loved the unusual collection of plates/cups — not a single one on our table matched but that was part of the charm. I noticed some older tins on the shelves along the wall as well as a collection of decorative ceramic teapots and coffee pots for flair. We had: Chipotle Benny — the poached eggs were cooked to perfection and it was spiced just right that it didn’t need any more spicing up with more hot sauce. Just right! Matzo Ball Soup — very soothing and the carrots were cooked just right. Not mushy and not too hard. Jampler(jam sampler) with sourdough toast — totally worth it. I tasted: Blackberry Plum Oolong, Blueberry Lavender, Raspberry Rosewater and my new fav: Strawberry Earl Grey jam. The Raspberry Rosewater was a close second. There is a definite emphasis on good food that’s a little bit different. Eric has a fabulous place, recommend if you’re in the area for breakfast or lunch to stop in and give Cathy’s a try!

My friend and I left the East Bay Area about 4 am on Tues. headed to the Heritage Musical Festival in San Diego. After getting over the grapevine we were starving! Looked on Unilocal and made a decision. «Cathy’s» it was. We found easy parking on street for the trailer. Headed in for food. We were met by a great guy named Erik, he recommended his secret bread pudding french toast. I can’t remember the name of it. I ordered it. He brought out 3 different jams and 2 different syrups. It was the best french toast I had ever hMyad! My friend had an AMAZING omelet! Erik was very passionate about his business and it showed in ever dimension. How he encountered with his customers and his staff, to the laid back home feeling of his restaurant. We said we would stop back for breakfast on the way home. Sunday am we arrived again at Cathy’s this time we ordered coffee with creamer that the house makes(NOTSURPRISED)!! Although, they had just run out of my french toast so here comes Erik to save the day. He asks me a couple questions and off he disappears. Only to return with Flakey French Toast with Strawberry/Earl gray jam that he made into syrup and topped with ice-cream! ITWASFANTASTIC!!! By the time we left he had made my original french toast and made it for me to take on the road. He took the time to come over and say good-bye and wish us a safe trip home! I will never pass Cathy’s again without stopping to see my new friends! It made our already great trip ONEOF A KIND!!! THANKYOUERIK and the rest of Cathy’s staff… Keep smiling!!! KayCee Tooker

This place doesn’t belong in SCV! But thank goodness it is!!! Erik the owner is super cool, he’s always there to meet and greet, but it’s his vision of food we keep coming back for. I have tried the omelettes, the sandwiches, the specialty plates, it’s all good(great)! My favorite omelette, I have two the Ruben and the California. Favorite sandwich, I have several favs, try the French dip, Ruben, corned beef. It’s quality meats with affordable prices! Can’t wait to be invited to one of his 7 course meals, hint, wink, hint… Santa Claritinians, you have a great restaurant to locally support. Do your part and get your asses to Cathy’s. Just keepin’ it real in the SCV The Real Foodie

Ladies and gentlemen, there is beautiful poetry emerging from Cathy’s Breakfast Café & Deli. There is an artist in Cathy’s kitchen! Over the course of a year as I was getting dental work in the neighboring dental office, I kept seeing the restaurant sign beckoning me to Matzo ball soup. The word«delicatessen» has this effect on me. Well, today after all the stars finally aligned, my momma and I walked into Cathy’s and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful artistry. We tried… Coffee: Scrumptious. I had mine with the home made vanilla bean creamer. Gorgeous home-made creamer(with no added sugar, btw) rich yet not overpowered by vanilla bean. Egg White(my preference) Mexican Omelet: Eggs served with jalapenos, onion, tomatoes, bacon and topped with cheddar, avocado and sour cream. Delish! Eggs cooked flawlessly. Not too hard, not to soft. A VERY generous sized omelet, which I couldn’t even finish. Hash browns: Impeccably cooked with golden crispy edges, also a large generous serving. Marble Rye toast: Soft, yet appropriately crisp in the right places, served with stunning(doesn’t even sum it up) jam. The Jam: Ladies & Gents, this Jam is rhythmical and extraordinary! Today’s samples were strawberry earl grey, and a raspberry one, which I don’t remember the exact ingredients(raspberry and fennel???). Oops. Nevertheless the raspberry one was good, the raspberries were ripe and sweet, without being overly sweet. It’s evident that the ingredients are respected and treated with immense care. The best jam however, was the strawberry earl grey one! This Jam was amazing! The pairing is impeccable! The strawberry holds up to the black tea’s substantial flavor. And the tea does not in any way hinder the berry’s independence. The tea’s subtle hints of bergamot oil are subtle punctuation marks on the poetic taste of this lyrical masterpiece. My momma ate the all American breakfast with eggs, bacon and home potatoes. The potatoes are cooked with onion and bell pepper. Absolutely wonderful! Love the crispy bits! BRAVO Chef! This menu and these home-made eats are a HIT! You sir, are an artist! Thank you for your work! Definitely coming back(since I haven’t tried the soup yet)!!

Saturday morning at 9:30 was my first visit to Cathy’s and it will not be my last and hopefully I can get there as often as possible. It didn’t appear like much from the outside, but sometimes the unassuming can be incredibly overlooked. We were greeted to a 15 minute wait on the list, asking if there was anyone named Mike as I do I looked around the café to every table full and a few people waiting. No one named Mike so no mix-ups on calling me to satisfy my growing appetite and the sights and smells that were around me. We waited outside on some benches since the day was pleasant enough and those that were before us lingered a bit because the estimated 15 minutes turned into 25, but time is relative to me so we greeted those entering and leaving. Finally my name… joy of joys and ushered to a table that was large enough for me and my appetite. We looked over the menus and enjoyed the much needed nectar of the bean known as coffee along with the homemade vanilla creamer. The choices were numerous so I relied on my fellow Unilocalers to guide me through the wonders of Cathy’s choices. I still needed some more assistance because the choices were all too good for me to take in at one sitting. My son pointed out that there was a Reuben omelette… could it be… since he knew that I love Reuben sandwiches I had to take advantage of it… or maybe it was taking advantage of me, I’ll never tell. While we were waiting on my order, the country fried steak and eggs for my son and my wife’s banana brulee pancakes, I had seen that the jelly and jams were made fresh and a mention of a sampler. We asked our kind server for a tasting and he brought over three portions. I couldn’t remember the two others, but the one I fell in love with was the Strawberry /Earl Grey yes berries and tea… sounds strange, tastes like a spoonful of sunshine. I took a jar home at $ 10 and enjoyed it the next day as well. The three best words ever put together in the English language is «Breakfast is Served», the plates arrived, pictures were taken and more of the dark brew requested. My first bite of the Reuben omelette came to my fork with corned beef and sauerkraut, egg and swiss cheese. A slight moan came out I’m sure because it was so good. My family remained silent and we took in mouthfuls of this lovely meal. Eric(the owner) came over and asked how it all was and we made him aware of the wonderful find that he already knew about, but we had just stumbled upon. We talked jams and choices for a few minutes, Eric agreeing that my choice was his favorite as well. The saddest part of a good meal is when the plate is empty, but with that our bellies were full and we looked forward to our next time here.
