This is a bar filled with happy-to-be-drinking people. The place includes a fantastic juke box & sound system and multiple tv’s. If that’s not enough, the location is mere yards from the beach with ocean & island views from your bar stool, and drink prices that match the dive bar status, not the OC location. If you like to get your drinking sessions on, give Blackie’s By The Sea a visit.

I have to say this is one of the best bars here in Orange County and a great staff that work here. I would recommend anyone to come here to have something to drink by the beach!

Awesome hole in the wall where you can belly up to the bar, get a cold beer and blend in with no expectations. Reminiscent of a college bar.

This place is great: –Extremely cold 28 degree beers. When you’re doing the dive bar thing and you’re drinking cheap swill that extra chill factor can really sex up a Miller Lite or Pacifico. –Great view of/short walk to the beach. I like sippin down a chilly one then perambulating on the beach for a few then cooling down with a another chilly brew. — cool shitty bar snacks like spicy pickled eggs and chili dogs that really add to that divevibe –lots of tv’s and 2 pool tables

Great pour bar. This is the place to have a cocktail. The patrons are always interesting. When inside, it doesn’t feel like Newport Beach, which is nice. Whenever I’m down in this area, I always try to stop in.

Love so many things about Blackies. Great atmosphere. Fun, often hilarious patrons. Some of the best people you can find anywhere. Been down from NorCal 4 years in a row for a Sunset Happy Hour with best friends. Last two times, the skinny beady blue eyed bartender ripped us off big time(cash bar). BEVERYCAREFULWITHCASHONTHEBAR! Thus guy took $ 20 for a PBR Draft and left $ 2 on the bar. That would be the most expensive Pabst Blue Ribbon sold outside of Las Vegas. Then he argued we took $ 10 off the bar…(didn’t happen). Strange Review. Why? Love this Bar… minus one Bartender who is likely taking 30% of the profit from the owner.

Horrible! Try anywhere but here if you want to enjoy your evening in any shape or form.

Dive, dive, dive. This place is a locals watering hole and the definition of a dive bar. The décor seems like anything they had lying around in the 80’s was drilled up on the wall and never touched(or cleaned). This place is very dirty, dust everywhere, sticky floors etc. They do have cheap beers, but it is a dirty dive.

Blackie’s By The Sea is yet another dive option in the peninsula’s drinking war zone. If you had enough drinks you would think that you actually walked right back into the neighboring Beach Ball. Same concept: a dirty dump with ice cold beer and low prices. Neon signs? Check. Pool tables, Check. Musty and stale scented air? Check. Disgusting bathrooms? Oh, you bet. The only real difference between Blackie’s and any other dive is that there are a lot of license plates on the wall and the bar is cash only. So, if you like dive bars or are on a crawl in the area put Blackie’s on the list. Why do bartenders at dives always seem so surly?

Old pictures cluttering the wall, surfboards hanging from the ceiling, disarray behind the bar, out-dated booths and seating, sand on the floor, dark and dank… doesn’t get much better than this for dive bars! I absolutely love it! Whether you are coming here for a brew, some pool or a helping of some bar food you are sure to leave fulfilled. There are maybe 8 – 10 beers on tap; seems to be the usual, nothing special, no craft no IPA. just beer beer. Domestic and Import at about $ 3 – 4 a mug. Wine and spirits also flow freely. Pickled eggs, bags of chips, varieties of nuts, hot dogs… need a pack of gum? Go ahead they have that for sale too. Grab yourself a Blackie’s tee, available for purchase, so you can wear it proudly. The walls are seriously cluttered and jammed to the max full of old, awesome surfer pix and memories. Fun to browse around; license plates, TVs, old shirts, blow up doll garnished with a red, lacy g-string around her neck, mounted fish, nautical junk… you know, old beachy crap. But that’s what makes this bar fun and unique. I think Blackie’s wears it’s nostalgia proudly, the bar has been around since 1953 and it’s right there basically on the sand near the Newport Pier, ocean view. The bar attracts all kinds; young, old, tourists and most definitely old time regular locals. Fun to listen to the banter between the locals and the bar keep. Stop in for a cold one or two, you won’t be sorry. Bring your cash though, that’s all they take! CHEERS!

If you have read my reviews you know I love dive bars and I LOVE the beach, well Blakie’s By The Sea has those 2 ingredients so it deserve 4 stars in my book. I always had beer over there, never tried their cocktails, but even though they don’t have my usual craft beers I enjoyed my visits. This bar is quite fun, especially if you are into people watching(like me) and maybe some eavesdropping… I only have been during week days and the place is packed with Caucasian-Newport-old-timer-residents.(That’s a special breed… similar to the Newport Nancies that Donald S. mentioned on his reviews) I’m pretty sure the crowd drastically change at night or during the weekends, but at daytime during the week you will find an older crowd that have interesting(and sometimes unintelligible) conversations. When I walked in for the first time I felt sooooo young(YAY!!!) and the decoration intrigued me, it’s kinda rundown kinda… look for yourself Quite convenient! Recommended if you are«this-kind-of-thirsty» when at the beach.

This place has been here when I was a little kid… Always have told myself that when I get older I’m gonna go there. And I have. Many many times over and it is STILL cool. The bar is simple. So r the bartenders. Cash only as I remember. They have T-shirts u can purchase alone with good bar food. 2 pool tables a digital jukebox. Old Pictures on the wall and off the wall decore. And lots of TV’s. And an ATM. But… BY far my FAVORITEFAVORITE … Are the bomb ass pickled eggs!!! Yup I said it. If your curious. At least u can try the best ones out there. And if you love them. They r the best here!!! So hope u stop in a Blackies. Cause this is such a cool bar:) through some nuts on the ground and get past the cold beer slushy in the top of your frozen mug!!!
