This was a really yummy deli! We got some sandwiches to go and ate them in the beach! Perfect location!

First time here. Had the Italian job cold deli sandwich. It was excellent. Not ginormous. Right size. Paired it with a nice Stella Artois.

A really freaking awesome spot. I ordered a burrito without the wrap and they did such a rad job with it. They offer some kind of smokey, salty hot sauce type thing that appears to be made in house and is off to the side with the hot sauces. I highly recommend you try it. It’s such a fantastic and unique flavor. Also ordered a Bloody Mary. I feel like Bloody’s can either go more worcestershire sauce-y or more horesradishy. I’m more of a horseradishy type and this was more of a worcestershire type, but it was still pretty good. And the people were incredibly sweet and attentive.

Finally able to make it out to Double D’s. Great atmosphere, TVs, music and open air. 70 degrees and sitting in booth with views to Catalina. Food came up quick. Buffalo Mary is a 5 star. They should also offer it as an app without the Bun — so good. Rocky Balboa — 3.5 star. Flavor was great. Meat was slightly dry. Sandwich could use a dip. French fries were solid. Would have loved a spicy Mayo. Can’t wait to try breakfast burritos. Wish they had alcohol license– would have loved a Bloody Mary.

So… after reading a few of the more«concerning reviews» I was pretty worried. However… however, the food isn’t bad. My first experience was a not so warm experience by the young lad at the counter who was transparently frustrated with my being new to this place. I just ordered a Dory Burger and a cup of chowder. It was good — the burger and bu. — excellent and the chowder was pretty solid too. I did however have to pass on the pickle though… lol. I was reading this other review and this gal had mentioned she say a worker transfer some pickles into another jar without gloves… so, if you’re wondering why In my pics there’s. Pickle laying there with teeth marks — well, there’s your answer: D. I think the owner was the one who brought me my food — she was a lot nicer. I know everyone has moments. And not everyone can always be chipper, warm and friendly… especially in a heavy touristy area. But note that impressions are key and with social media the way it is today… well, we all know the ending to this story :). Good food, pricy but it is on the beach. I’d have to agree with a few others — I’d be likely to explore additional options in the area.

Hmmmmm… I am very torn on what to say about Dory Deli. I went for breakfast and got one of the fabulous breakfast burritos. I got the anchor burrito and substituted the chorizo for some chicken and added some avocado to it. There is a review down there that says ‘no substitutions’, but during my visit they were happy to oblige to my request to have chicken instead. This breakfast burrito was extremely tasty! The crispy hash browns really made the burrito adding the prefect crunchy texture to all the soft elements inside the burrito. Unfortunately, there is a down side. Service is very sssslllloowwwww. I’m pretty sure I was waiting close to fifteen minutes for my burrito. It was not an overly busy morning, but I feel like the kitchen was taking quite a while to turn out food(I think other people were waiting just as long). Perhaps it is true the closer you are to the beach the more chill and laid back life gets. Also, I made a note to myself on Unilocal to try the hot sauce. I got a couple of containers of hot sauce thinking that I would love it and smother each bite of my burrito with it, but I was mistaken. I really did not like the hot sauce. The flavor was far too smokey for my taste and it just did not make burrito better. Anyways, again I am torn… tasty food, but less than desirable service :/

Love the food, atmosphere, and the coffee! Highly recommend the Dory burger. Melts in your mouth! The coffee here is pretty good too. I came here to work while enjoying the view of the beach.

I had the Ahi Burger. What an amazing tasting sandwich! A seared, wasabi-encrusted slab of tuna, cooked to pink and served on a homemade bun with a sriracha mayo, cucumber, grated carrot, and fresh cilantro that gives an additional zing to the beautiful meld of fresh ingredients. I would return for this alone!

Great spot RIGHT on board walk! They sell beer & wine which goes well with their big screen TVs on game day! Sandwiches are tasty but I wish they had gluten free bread.

Cute place by the water. Very friendly staff, delicious food, happy me :) I’ve tried both the eggs Benedict and the chicken and waffles and both were amazing! Great location, and great food, couldn’t ask for more!

A fantastic pastrami sandwich. It’s very difficult to convince an Orange County native to drive onto the Balboa Peninsula for lunch. The traffic sucks and the parking’s terrible, but I would drive over and battle for parking to indulge in the Dory Deli’s pastrami sandwiches. The pastrami sandwich features a pile of Dory’s pastrami, topped with sauerkraut, Russian dressing and swiss on toasted marbled rye. There’s nothing incredibly revolutionary about the sandwich, but it nails the basics down to a T. The pastrami is juicy, the Russian dressing and sauerkraut are plentiful and the cheese is perfectly melted. The Kennebec fries are remarkable: salty, firm, crispy. The perfect accompaniment to any of the Dory Deli’s sandwiches. I will be back for seconds.

My initial lack of enthusiasm for visiting Dory Deli turned into love at first bite. It’s not that I had low expectations, it’s just that delis are a dime a dozen. So when my friend Ryan recommended this spot, I prepared for the usual ho-hum sandwiches I could find anywhere. Boy was I wrong. For starters, everything is house-made and fresh. Just reading the menu caused plenty of indecision. Should I go with the Dory Burger with pastrami, the fish and chips or the meatball sandwich? I settled for the latter and boy what a good decision that was. The meat was incredibly tender, flavorful and juicy and I could tell that every ingredient down to the pickle on the side was fresh. To top it off, their beer selection is fantastic. I encourage anyone, wether they be a local or a tourist, to stop on here when they are in Newport Beach. Grab a sammy and a drink, sit outside and watch the ocean and all the pretty people walk by.

Best Fish and Chips ever. The fish is literally caught that morning 100 feet away from Dory Fleet Market. Get something with fish. I was cycling along the board walk last year and the then under construction Dory Deli caught my eye. Unfortunately I’ve been gone int he Middle East for most of that same time period and when anyone asked if there was anything I wanted to eat when I got back I said Dory Deli. Finally I got to try Dory Deli and I made the mistake of ordering not fish(and chips). I had the Dory Burger and it was okay but incredible expensive at +$ 20 for a burger with pastrami, fries and a beer. I was disappointed that what had been hyped was just another expensive beach side trap. Anyway lesson learned go for the Fish and Chips or anything with fish(there is a seared tuna sandwich and a seared tuna salad). You can see where the fish brought ashore from your seat, it’s that fresh. The fish today was Red Snapper and it was amazing and again the best fish and chips I have ever had. Besides not choosing fish, the price, and I suppose beach parking, the only other negative thing I have to say about Dory Deli is the beer selection. The two very locals are Wild Goose Pale Ale, Huntington Beach, CA and Barely Forge Patsy Stout, Costa Mesa, CA, which are fine enough but they are mixed with other regional brews and then Stella and Pacifico. Really? I’ll drink both, one at the airport and the other if I want a Mexican wheat, and most people won’t care but it’s definitely an area of improvement. Bottomline go for fish at Dory Deli caught that day from Dory Fleet.

Fantastic customer service. Ahi tuna poke was on display with 2 prices. I thought the higher price meant LARGE, so I ordered a large ahi tuna poke with kale caesar salad and ahi tuna burger(3 of us were sharing between all of the items). MAKESURETOGETANITEMIZEDRECEIPT! Luckily I did and saw the«large» ahi tuna poke was actually twice the price than what was displayed on the window — yikes! Turns out the pricing for the ahi tuna poke was for small/medium and NOT large. They quickly rectified the situation and I got refunded the difference. On to the food… ahi tuna poke was spot on. Delicious and fresh, without any of that fishiness. Ahi tuna burger — hearty helping of tuna with flavorful aioli sauce. I asked for the aioli sauce to be on the side but it was served smeared on the burger so I couldn’t gage how much sauce I wanted on it… oh well. Kale caesar salad had light dressing on it, and it sure was refreshing to eat. If I’m ever by the beach looking for some food, this will be my spot.

Finallllyyyyy! We needed a spot in the area just like this to open. At first I was super excited about it. They have a great beer selection with a relaxed menu and casual interior with awesome open airy patio seating. The perfect place to ride your bike to grab a bite! I’ve been here three times for breakfast. 1. Ordered anchor breakfast burrito sub over med eggs. It was amazing, I was a happy camper. The crispy hash its a great addition. 2. Ordered anchor breakfast burrito sub over med eggs. NOSUBS. Ok fine I’ll still have it. Didn’t like it. Didn’t eat it. 3. Tried one more time — I tried the boardwalk burrito this time. NOSUBS. Didn’t like it all you taste is scrambled eggs. Didn’t eat it. Each time they say that it will be too messy with over medium eggs. They must of never had the Don Wayne from Bull Taco b/c its the best breakfast burrito in all of the land. I like the idea of NOSUBS to make the line go quick but please add something to the menu that doesn’t make me want to request a substitution and I shall return. Maybe a breakfast burrtio with over med eggs?

I’m gonna go with four stars, but do so grudgingly. This place is all about location and vibe for me. Nestled into the strip of storefronts on the boardwalk by the pier, the wall of doors facing the water open all the way to make a breezy beachy dining experience and offer a jaw dropping view. Décor: modern with rustic touches and plenty of TVs. Music: straight up classic rock — Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, The Beatles. The staff: outrageously nice. 5 stars for ambiance. But I know yall want to know about the food. That’s where it goes a little sideways. I ordered fish and chips. 2 of the 3 pieces of fish were chicken nugget sized. This was not a portion for an adult. The fish was fresh, but the batter was unseasoned. It was completely flavorless until I doctored it up with salt and hot sauce. The fries and remoulade were the saving graces of the meal. My man ordered the ahi burger. While beautifully seasoned and seared, this thing was microscopic and came with no sides. He ended up adding a caprese salad but was still hungry when we got home. Did we order the wrong stuff? 3 stars for food. I’m sure we’ll be back simply to watch football in a relaxed environment, but I’m not that excited about it.

This is a great little spot to grab a sandwich and beer when visiting Newport Pier. Located right on the beach front facing the always crowded pier parking lot, Dory Deli offers a concise menu of hearty breakfast burritos, burgers, thoughtfully made sandwiches, and a respectable list of draft beer and wine. With a narrow line of table tops lining the open store front and a handful of flat screens spread throughout, the space feels both cozy and open. Despite how crowded the place can get at times, it’s actually a nice setting to sip on some beer and watch a game. I almost dismissed this place as an overpriced tourist trap of a deli at first, mostly due to it’s prime location. And at $ 9 – 12 per sandwich, they are certainly not cheap. But after trying a few of their sandwiches, it’s pretty clear that these guys are serious about their food. The cubano sandwich came with a simple combination of pulled pork, mortadella, pickled onion and swiss, but the flavors worked well together and the texture of the toasted sub roll was nice. The Italian Job was similarly simple in presentation, but was packed with a lot of flavor. They also offer a small deli case of freshly made poke, hummus, and salads, which can be added as a healthy side. Although the area surrounding the pier is not particularly known for good food options, this little deli has some surprisingly fresh and tasty offerings on their menu. If you find yourself wandering the beach with the need to eat something, you probably won’t find anything nearly as well made and enjoyable as Dory Deli.

Dory is located right on the beach front of the Newport pier area. Craft beer. Nice patio to enjoy the weather. Pretty ideal if you’re looking for an alcoholic libation and some food if you’re in the area. I ordered the Pistol Pete’s which is a pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing on rye bread. This was so good. The pastrami was thinly sliced, and although it was a tad greasy, it was real good and exactly what you’re looking for if you had a hankering for a good pastrami sandwich. I especially liked that the pastrami wasn’t too salty and the coleslaw wasn’t too cabbagey. I also shared a side of their fries, and they too were surprisingly delicious. A nice crisp on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Parking is no bueno here. It’s metered parking and Newport is popular during the summer, so have patience if you find yourself in the neighborhood.

Wow! This place is awesome, there is really nothing else like on the beach. I totally came by it accidentally just trying to find a quick bite to eat and loved it. They have awesome beers on tap like Scuplin IPA and great Bloody Mary’s. We ordered the REUBINSTEIN -$ 9 Thick sliced corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on toasted marble rye and the LIFEGUARDCLUB -$ 9 Smoked turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, fresh greens and mayo on squaw bread. Both were excellent sandwiches but the Reuben really hit the spot. Both sandwiches come with a large dill pickle super crisp and juicy. The fries were excellent nice crunch to them and perfectly seasoned. We enjoyed our meal so much we brought home some of their ahi poke and caprese salad for dinner, both were super tasty. I really like the bagel chips that came with the poke, so don’t forget to grab those too. A great location to look out on the beach and have great sandwiches. I really recommended this place.
