Old Newport Eye

Old Newport Eye has seen my whole family now for several years. The Doctors and staff are great. They are competent, knowledgeable and the service is wonderful. I would highly recommend becoming a part of their practice.

My daughter needed glasses late into 2^nd grade, 7 years old (2003). I disliked the glasses covering up her face and pushed for contact lenses, but other people told me children under 10 years old couldn’t wear contact lenses. I had an excellent, generous ophthalmologist who specialized in pediatric ophthalmology and he referred me to Dr. Evan Thomas, if I wanted my daughter fitted for contacts. Dr. Thomas fits the lenses and then he has a fabulous assistant who teaches the patient how to put them in the eye. It took my daughter a year to ‘want’ contact lenses, so she wore glasses in 3^rd grade, but in 4^th grade (9 years old) she decided she would like contacts, so she could see when she was swimming in the ocean. We switched her eye doctor to Dr. Thomas. He fitted her for contacts. The asst. trained her that day to put them in her eyes at 9 yrs. old and she has been wearing contacts ever since. When she was young her vision was changing 2 to 3 times a year and Dr. Thomas would exchange the unused, unopened contacts for the new strength she needed. No additional cost.
Last year I got tired of wearing my Progressive lens glasses all the time because they make me look old. I went to Dr. Thomas to see if there were contacts that could help my presbyopia. It took about 3 weeks of trial to fit me, and the same assistant trained me to insert them in my eyes.
Dr. Thomas and his staff are great, but they are the best when it comes to fitting contact lenses.

the best part is that, beyond regular check-​ups (which are on time, and with the latest diagnostic equipment), when we’ve had emergency issues, the office responded by getting us in asap. added bonus: the office is located in an architecturally wonderful building, a former art gallery. so grateful for great care at old newport eye!

Dr Thomas is a great doctor with the patience of a saint! He has fitted me for years, after several challenging eye problems, and has always taken time to make absolutely sure I have the right prescription. I can’t say enough about what an experienced and wonderful doctor he is!
