Pros: tables didn’t wobble, the crushed ice was a dream, the ambience was good and environment was home-like. I had the Steak and Cheese footlong and enjoyed it very much. No complaints.

On the outside the place looks a little run down, but in actuality Subway Stations has a great atmosphere and great subs!

Excellent subs, cool atmosphere, decent value for price, nice staff, and even a Mrs. Pac Man arcade machine. Turn-around may be a bit slow, but they otherwise do it right. I had the Express. Do it.

Disclaimer: My mom says she worked at Subway Station 30+ years ago. That’s before I was a thought. Before she met my dad even, so I think I’m in the clear as far as bias goes. So I guess that also gives you an idea about how long SS had inhabited the space near CNU(longer than most of CNU’s campus has been there) and what to expect from the building itself. This place is a hole, but in that nostalgic charm sorta way. I visited for the first time ever the day before Independence Day, so when I saw a sub called the Statue of Liberty on the menu I ordered it with a side of ‘Murica. It was delicious. Toasted, light hoagie roll stuffed with turkey, ham, roast beef, and provolone; then topped with lettuce, tomato, onions and the infamous special sauce. As I ate, the special sauce dripped in to a small puddle on my deli paper the sandwich came wrapped in. It’s funny how that would invoke a demerit from a finer restaurant, but is seen as a positive for Subway Station. The Express sub seems to be the most popular sandwich, as I heard it called out for other customers repeatedly as I sat and ate. The young lady manning the register was super friendly as she took my order. You do wait a few extra minutes for your sub because they’re all served hot. I’d choose Subway Station over Jared’s Subway every time.

Seriously the best sub I’ve ever had. I’m partial to the tuna and cheese and it is always amazing. It takes a little while for the subs to be toasted but the sandwich is worth the wait.

Went all the time when I was at CNU and took a few years off and came back for another try. Still good food and service.

Great Sandwiches, college atmosphere, wonderful prices! The bread is really crunchy and soft. The deli meats are really fresh tasting. Not bad for a hole in the wall sandwich shop.

Just okay sandwiches; kinda small for the price. The place really needs to be cleaned. Lots of locals, but I don’t see why not go 1 more block to Panera or subway for better quality, price, or cleanliness.

I think the other reviews had my expectations quite high. I was not thoroughly impressed. It was a decently good hot sandwich though. Ate there… place is pretty divey, but that kind of makes it cool in my opinion. Staff seemed nice, though they were very busy despite maybe 4 people inside. Seems like we came in when they were fulfilling a large phone order. I feel like you would want to eat there as my sandwich was slathered in that ‘secret sauce’(like a runny slightly ranch-ey mayo?) which would have certainly had the bread mushy by the time we arrived home. I had the Atlantic City. Might try it again sometime if I ever get the urge and am too lazy to go to Firehouse! Also, the portions are quite generous. I thought a whole 12″ sub didn’t sound like much, but it was huge. a 6-er and some chips would have sufficed.

Good subs. I think the secret sauce has crack in it. I got a hefty-sized Italian sub on a fresh, toasty bun. It took a while to come out, but they had the football game on the TVs, so I had something to do while I waited. I’ll be back to see what that sauce tastes like on another sandwich.

Could be my favorite sandwich in the country! Special secret sauce rocks, people are very nice as well…

These subs blow Subway out of the water. Great bread, meat, and sauce. Décor is old and drab, but the subs make this a 4 star.

Oh my. This is a great staple of the Hampton Roads area. The subs are tasty. The ones that include their«special sauce» are outstanding. The prices are very competitive and worth every penny.

Well, if there is a heaven on earth, this place makes that place look like hell. Not only do they have great Subs, they have the best ice you’ll ever have! I’ve eaten down the menu and everything here is excellent! The Atlantic City Connection and The Subway Express are my two favorites, and the Meatball can’t be beat if you are hungover. Gonna have to trust me on that one! Everything is oven baked and slathered in their special sauce. I am an expert on ripping up the wrapper. It’s art people!

Ummm, grew up in Newport News and never knew the best freakin sandwich place was in the area! I hate mayonnaise but the secret sauce is effing great! DONOT go to subway ever again! This is the only subway in my vocab.

It’s been a while since I had a Subway Station sub, but I do recall every one that I tried, was a tasty treat. On the other hand, I’m sorry, but their«secret sauce» is not THAT good. Well, at least for those of us who hate mayo, as it’s a mayo based sauce(If I recall correctly). No matter though, as they do serve up a decent sub. Best in the area, hardly, but worth trying out if your hungry and in the vicinity.

I’m guessing all of the other reviewers are college kids w/o many choices, because this would be my last place to buy a sub. Harris Teeter’s subs are cheaper, larger, fresher, and taste 10 times better that Subway Stations. Add the greasy(read never cleaned) interior, and you can only wonder what else is in your food here…

The other reviews here prompted me to give it a whirl, and it’s worth reiterating: don’t let the exterior fool you. It’s good to go. The sandwiches are solid and I don’t know what they’ve done differently but the Mr. Pibb is the best. A good place for dressing down and cheap eats.

The best sandwiches around. Two words: Secret Sauce. I always order extra on the side. They toast the subs in their oven upon request, and they come out toasty and delicious. Extra hint — get the oil and vinegar on the sandwich with the secret sauce and it takes it over the top!

Back when I attended CNU it was this place, Subway, Plaza Azteca and Mickey’s…and that was all for off campus foods. Fuck Jared and his slimming subs, because this place has the grease and all the flavah! My «usual» was a large ass steak and cheese. Ahhhhhh, seems like it was just yesterday when I was smiling at an empty see-through wrapper… The Station, you hold a very special place in my heart, and parts of my arteries…

Not to be confused with«subway». This place is an institution!!! This is the standard, of a GREAT sub! Bread is available in wheat, or white, toasted, or non-toasted. Interior is medium sized, and you can smoke in it too. Not sure how much crack they put in the subs, but it’s highly addictive. You will KNOW what a true sub is, once you’ve had this! The service is standard. You go up, order your sub, they give you a number, and you eat. There is a soda fountain, and they offer two teas too. One is Southern«sweet tea», and the other is non-sweetened. You will feel the Southern hospitality here!
