The place looks clean and the people appear to be courteous. View is good. Food is where the problem is for me: Not enough selection to begin with, and they said«oh we have more selection for dinner than for lunch» Chowder was as watery as I’ve never seen before. Didn’t know one can make a clam chowder and make it as watery as the one I had. Kids menu — they didn’t have it published, so one of the waiters will give you a verbal run down. Portion — small! As small as some fancy or high end restaurants; but honestly the place isn’t fancy at all to get that kind of pass. I wouldn’t come back here!

My wife and I had lunch here and really enjoyed it. The staff is extremely pleasant. The food was great and the venue has a waterfront view. Overall we had a great lunch.

Don’t get me wrong. Their salmon was lovely and cooked just the way I like it. Which is a little raw in the center and a nice crust to the top. The entrée(8 oz portion for the large meal $ 32) sat a top truffle crème fresh and beautifully blanched spring veggies. And we also did the salmon spinach salad which too was cooked nicely. The reason we gave this spot the rating we did was simply that there was zero ambiance and no warmth to the service. We were seated and asked if we wanted beverages and the drinks were served and thats it. No bread served or any real follow up until we ordered again which was our meals. The food arrived and again no real follow up. This is a small restaurant with a beautiful view of the harbor. There are no table clothes and for their price point I guess what I am saying is I think this restaurant could try a little harder for your business. There are several choices on the bay in Newport so you decide.

I went to Saffron Salmon with 3 friends. The place has amazing views of the bay and the food is really good. We tried the Risotto and it was probably one of the best risottos I have ate here in the West Coast. Seafood was also good, but the best was one of the desserts, the Marion berry and Blueberry Cobbler, one of the best desserts I have ever tried. Price is a little bit high in my opinion but probably worth it.

We drove over the hill from Corvallis today. Found Saffron Salmon on Unilocal(yay, Unilocal). The food was simply fabulous. It was not a busy night and we were there at about 6:15pm which seemed like the perfect pre-sunset time. The restaurant’s décor is simple but very stylish and functional. We had a lot of personal attention and quite a lot of discussion about the menu which is extensive for a small place. We ended up with the fresh wild salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts and cauliflower purée. All I can say is that it’s a good thing the portion sizes were so perfect or they would have had to roll us out of there. Delicious and so beautifully prepared and presented. One in our party had the grilled salmon sandwich with Asian slaw. He said that was excellent and it sure looked good. Clam chowder was an elegant version with more complex flavors and spices than you’d get at other nearby establishments. And the mini-crab cake looked great and was well-received! All in all, a great meal in a lovely setting.

Best food and service during or nine day vacation to Oregon! We dined here twice…2 days in a row it was so good! The brightly lit room from all the windows made for enjoyable gazing out onto the harbor. Dream about coming back someday!

Very Disappointing… We are camping in Waldport and thought we would head into Newport and splurge a bit on lunch. We decided to go for some delicious Salmon for Heather on the Pier. We stopped into Saffron Salmon due to high Unilocal reviews. Walked in… We were greeted by a nice friendly staff… the restaurant itself was cute but the acoustics promoted a very loud environment. Heather ordered the pan roasted wild chinook salmon. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, however it was under seasoned and lacked flavor. The«flash fried» Brussel sprouts were chargrilled so much so that the char flavor overpowered the entire dish and left a burnt flavor in her mouth for several hours. I ordered the New York Steak with 3 grilled prawns added. The presentation was wonderful and it was cooked perfectly, but it was lacking flavor. The asparagus was overcooked and the char flavor overpowered this dish as well. The prawns were tasty, but one was not deveined, which was highly unappetizing to see. I could not finish my meal at this point. We would liked to have tried a dessert, but both of our meals were so disappointing that we were afraid the dessert would let us down as well. Instead, we paid the check and grabbed a sweet treat at a candy shop around the corner.

A little disappointed after I read the reviews. The food was good, but not great. Service was slow and they forgot my husbands meal. It drives me nuts when people get served first when they came in after others, and that happened here. We really wanted dessert and nobody even asked us. It felt like they were in a huge hurry to get us out of there, but not so much of a hurry taking care of us while we were there. Probably won’t be back.

Had a wonderful lunch at this bright and clean restaurant. Spinach salad was delicately dressed and full of crunchy soy nuts. Fish and chips were crunchy and light, homemade ketchup yummy. Great view of harbor with entertaining sea lions!

Always the freshest seafood and the best service. Don’t know why my previous post was only a 4 star, must have thought I hit the 5th button but missed the mark! This place is a must if you dine in Newport.

Great host, Great Service, topped off by great dinner! Nice selection of wines, Spinach Salad to start, very flavorful and fresh. Steak & Prawns cooked the way I asked. So glad to have chosen this Newport Gem!

I had the risotto and he had the cod sandwich. My risotto was perfectly seasoned and I basically inhaled it. His cod sandwich was dry… no condiments or sauces were served with it… he had to ask for sauce — tartar. Still a good tasting sandwich. Would eat there again.

Crab cakes! No fillers here folks. I was tempted to go back for dinner the second night just to eat these again. Nice location right on the waterfront, a bit tucked back from the tourist traps. Great service and nice wine list.

Disappointed after reading the reviews. Crab cake had a weird texture and the flavor was not enjoyable. Service was good. The claim chowder was not creamy so beware. It’s gluten free so that may be why.

Excellent in every way. Great food, outstanding service and an amazing view. A little spendy, but the quality made the price worth it.

Each and every time we come to Newport, we HAVE to have dinner at Saffron. in fact, there are times we’ve made the trip solely with the intention of eating at this restaurant. they do such a great job, the seafood is fresh, well prepared, not fried, and delicious. just how seafood at the coast should be. if I had to recommend one dish, it would have to be the calamari. sounds simple enough, but this calamari is out of this world flavorful, soft, with the lightest crispness. it’s perfection. without a doubt my favorite restaurant anywhere on the Oregon coast.

The Saffron Salmon has consistently provided me with an outstanding meal on each occasion I have chosen to dine here. I come into Newport about seven times a year, and discovered this restaurant a year ago. I am in Love. Yes, capital L. The servers and all people in the front room have been exceptional. I was treated like a local by my second visit. Every plate I have had has been outstanding. Tonight, fresh local albacore wrapped in prosciutto and grilled. Last visit, an amazing calamari puttanesca with linguine — one of the best things I have eaten this year. I stand firm with my judgment that this is hands down the best restaurant in Newport. Sometimes we go out and look for amazing value for what we eat. Other times we go out wanting a great meal. Budget eaters will probably criticize this restaurant for its reasonable plates and upper end prices. Some already have. For those of us wanting a high end meal and willing to pay for it, the Saffron Salmon will always delight.
