Farm to table dinner to delight! Our waitress was incredibly helpful and attentive. We both had a steak dinner with house made tater tots and broccoli. The steak was seated to perfection, leaving the center tender and juicy. We had a desert trio of vanilla, mango and chocolate crème brûlée. The vanilla was awesome! Chocolate was a bitter chocolate and mango was just ok. Overall, the meal and service was exceptional. 2010 Walla Walla Cab was an excellent choice also. I look forward to coming back!

Amazing! Not only was the food delicious(I basically licked my plate), but the service was the best. I came to Newport for work and arrived late. Looked around for dinner and was turned away by a couple of places. But here, Not only did the chef stay late to feed me, I got some of the best mussels I’ve had in recent memory. I’d give more than five stars if I could!

I love this little place. The atmosphere is so relaxing and pleasant. The food is cooked perfectly. I take friends there every time I’m in Newport. This is a great place

This is a hard one for me in some ways. The ambience was lovely, The service was professional and friendly. The food was ok but way over priced for the quality. It has a nice selection of wine by the bottle but lacking decent wine by the glass. To many other great restaurants in the area for me to ever return.

We were initially hesitant to dine here given some of the negative reviews on Unilocal. However, we decided to give it a try as we like the concept of «farm-to-table», their daily menu, their low mark-ups on wines, and the apparent creativity of the dishes we saw on sample menus. There is a sameness and predictability to many of the menus in the area and Zach’s Bistro stood out as creative and far more interesting than others. Ultimately our entire experience was wonderful — the food, service and ambience. The restaurant has lots of windows and old wood tables laden with crystal glassware. From where we were seated, we could see the ocean and the sunset. We were fortunate to be there on a Sunday when they had live music — Jesse Meade — who plays guitar and sings in a wonderfully soft voice. The music of this artist in the background definitely makes for a romantic atmosphere and we would seek him out here and at other venues– from his website it appears that he plays at this bistro once or twice a month. The wine list primarily features wines from Oregon and Washington. There were quite a number of half bottles on offer too, as well as interesting beers. The mark-up on the wines is indeed significantly lower than at most restaurants consistent with the information on the«wine» section on the restaurant’s website where this is described in considerable detail. In addition to food on the changing daily menu, there were also three tasting menus — one bistro tasting menu, one seafood tasting menu and one vegetarian tasting menu. Among the standouts we had for dinner were stuffed portobello mushrooms encroute, with roasted red pepper coulis and black rice; cinnamon, oregano and red wine braised lamb shank; and Salt Spring Island mussels with herbed French fries. The mussels were as fresh as any we’ve had straight out of the ocean while vacationing on Salt Spring island. The talent and serious efforts of the chef are clear. The server we had was very pleasant, welcoming and helpful. The one small issue we had with our dining experience was that there was a small error on the bill but upon our pointing this out, the server quickly and apologetically corrected it. Dining at Zach’s Bistro made for a lovely romantic dinner and we look forward to going back.

We had two excellent meals – dinner and brunch – here during our visit to the Oregon coast. It’s not a huge place: Zach himself was our server for brunch. For dinner, my husband and I each chose a tasting-menu option. While every serving was delicious, I can’t say enough about Zach’s elk-with-roasted-beets preparation – which coincidentally was included in my husband’s tasting menu option as well. It was truly scrumptious. The steelhead dumplings and maple mousse dessert were also memorable dinner dishes(although I did have both again for brunch). The bistro has a very affordable lunch/breakfast three-course offering: it costs less than many sandwich and food-truck places in DC(where we usually eat). While Zach’s Bistro doesn’t have a huge wine list, the Syrah and Grüner Velltliner we had were excellent. You won’t go wrong eating here!

We found that the food was amazing and couldn’t get enough of it. But the service was poor, slow, and bad

When we walked in the waitress just told us to sit down without guiding to our table. She asked if we wanted something to drink. I asked her a question about the menu. She rudely answered then walked away. She finally came back to ask our drinks. We asked about the alcohol. She pointed to the menu then walked away again. She went to another table took their drink order. Never came back to us. Served the drinks to the other table then took their order of then stood in the kitchen. We can’t say how the food was because we walked out. Absolutely rotten service.

My wife and I had our best meal in years at Zach’s last night. It is risky and adventurous and every aspect of the meal is a delious work of art. It appears that the menu changes daily, with of course an emphasis on delicacies from the ocean. The service is brilliant(Zach himself worked our table) and THEDESSERTS are amazing — three different mini portions of crème Brule. It is easily the best meal you will get on the Oregon Coast this summer. In fact I haven’t anything like it in years.(I think I already said that)

Quiet restaurant in a converted house. Eccentric fine dining menu including seafood, game meats(kangaroo, venison), and some more traditional fare. Menu changes frequently, based on locally sourced ingredients and the chef’s whims. Service was not overtly friendly, but very nice and attentive. Will return to try the menu of homemade deserts(red wine ice cream, soufflés).

The WORST service We have ever received in our lives. DONOT support this business. We were in town for the Seafood and Wine fest, so I can understand that most places were busy. We were seated, and never served and food or allowed to order. We waited for over an hour, while other customers were seated, served, and tended to. Perhaps it’s because my wife was the only person in the restaurant with a darker shade of skin. Or maybe they just didn’t like my tattoos. Either way, I honestly thought they left this kind of soft-handed racism back in the 1950’s. It’s not like I brought my wheelchair out of the car, or anything. I didn’t want to overcrowd their unkempt interior, even though I could barely walk.

We came to New port for a girls trip, my friend and I. We couldn’t find any place with Eggs Benedict. We were craving it like crazy. Finally we came to Zach’s. They were just opening and we were the first ones there. Zach was our waiter, friendly, not over bearing, respectful. We had mimosas that were delicious. 6oz for $ 8. We both got Eggs Benedict and added crab. Let me just say, it was the best Benedict I have ever had. Absolutely incredible, I can’t say it enough. I will definitely be back!

We were not sure what to expect based on Unilocal’s reviews… and ended up having one of the best meals we’ve had in a 3-week roadtrip in the Northwest. You can find more fancy, more upscale, more original. But for the price we paid, the food and wine we got were absolutely 5 stars. Not to mention that the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere of the place cozy and romantic yet simple. I had the grilled halloumi cheese with mint as an appetizer, and a small portion of halibut with rice and tomatoes as a main. Ended up with an almond cake with hibiscus for dessert. Everything was simple, but tasty and cooked to perfection. Exactly the kind of food you’re looking for when travelling away from home! It was subtle, full of flavors, not too salty, not too sweet, not full of garlic. All good points :) I liked the cake which was not creamy, not oversweet, and had some original flavors thanks to the hibiscus. My partner had a beef tenderloin with fries, and again, although simple, it was perfect. Maybe I should mention that the meal was only ~60 $ for all the above-mentioned? And you’re still hesitating?

My wife, toddler, and I went to Zach’s for dinner on a Saturday evening. We had been turned away due to lack of seating at a couple other joints nearby, so we were both heartened and given pause by the emptiness at Zach’s. We arrived at 5:30PM, and were promptly seated. There was one other table at the restaurant. We eat out at fine dining establishments quite frequently and we’re suckers for a tasting menu. Imagine our delight when we found that Zach’s sports four(count ‘em, four!) tasting menus! My wife opted for the Game Menu, six tastes, heavy on the meat and featuring bone marrow and kangaroo loin. I elected the Bistro Menu, which had five dishes from all over the menu. I also ordered a cocktail(the bartender, who is also the chef, which might explain how everything went sideways as you’ll see, did not know how to make a vieux carre so I had a sazerac instead). After fifteen minutes of waiting, the cocktails came out. The sazerac was decent, but was too warm and clearly not well stirred. Five minutes later, some bread came out, which was a relief as my toddler has trouble sitting still for long periods without some food to keep her occupied. Unfortunately, the bread was some tasteless focaccia, and the butter was served without any salt or anything, so the bread and butter lacked any sort of flavour. Just filler. At this point, it had been half an hour since we arrived and we had some bread. The waitress came by and told me that my first course was ready, but my wife’s had been delayed because she had inserted the wrong order(she had asked Zach to make some Clams Casino before realizing my wife’s first dish was the kangaroo). We told her that we’d prefer to have them come out separately if it got some food into us sooner. So my carpaccio came out. It was pretty bad. It was just eighth-of-an-inch slices of raw ribeye sprinkled with bazil. No seasoning, again. No pepper or salt. Bland as all get out. We waited another ten minutes. Then my wife’s kangaroo loin came out. It wasn’t too bad. Well coooked and tasty. Both of our tasting menus had the duck breast up next. Fifteen minutes after we’d finished the kangaroo, one portion came out. Turns out the waitress had confused the order again and had only called for one. She apologized, said that she’d fix the problem, and that our next plates would be coming out much more rapidly. By now we’d been at the restaurant an hour and a half, having eaten three courses of eleven. The next three of my courses came out while none of my wife’s did. They were all forgettable. The next dish of my wife’s that came out was the marrow. It was… Hilarious. You could tell the waitress was not comfortable delivering the dish. Marrow bones have many preparations and styles for sure, but a crucial aspect of them is for the diner to be able to extract the marrow! We really both regretted later not taking a picture. Two charred hunks of what looked like knee joint bones from a middle-aged bull were presented with a few scattered pieces of toast. My wife was almost in tears(both from hunger, anger, and hilarity) trying to figure out what to do with these. At this point, we were two hours into the meal and we told the waitress we were leaving. To get some pizza somewhere, because we still were hungry. She was pretty rude with us. We’d had less than half of what we’d ordered. She assured us if we waited that the food would be ready soon(which we’d heard all meal) and she’d box it up for us. We told her we couldn’t wait any longer. She knocked a whopping $ 10 off our ~$ 120 tab(hilarious considering we’d eaten less than half what we’d ordered). I was in no mood to argue, so I paid up, stiffed her on the tip(even though the food was the kitchen’s fault, she was rude and lied to us repeatedly about the status of our food, so she got nadda). Then we got some pizza and went home. Stay away from Zach’s.

My husband and I went to Zach’s Bistro and enjoyed two dinners in a row. We absolutely loved the food!!! One evening, my husband order the chicken stuff with prosciutto, couscous and sauté bok choy. I had the grilled opal in a caper lemon cream sauce, buttery mashed potatoes and sauté bok choy… everything was well seasoned and a-m-a-z-i-n-g! For dessert, my husband ordered the Napoleon filled with lemon curd and he said it was very delicious! Due to my food allergies Chef Zach accommodated me by preparing a beautiful dessert made out of Oregon’s locally grown strawberries! The strawberries were very sweet(naturally) no sugar added and gluten free… it was the best dessert I have ever had and out of this world scrumptious!!! Our second evening at Zach’s Bistro was equally good and cooked to perfection! My husband ordered the petrel sole and I ordered the steak. For dessert, my husband raved about the home made buttermilk ice cream with berries. We found the staff to be friendly, attentive and provided very good service. The atmosphere is very nice. We did not have to wait long for our dinners. For us, the exceptional service we received at Zach’s is what we would typically experience at a fine SF restaurant… very good service! We thought that for the quality of the dishes, the presentation of the food and desserts, the excellent service… that the prices were quite reasonable. My husband and I are still talking about the fantastic food and desserts we enjoyed at Zach’s Bistro! And if we ever return to Newport Oregon, I know we will be visiting Zach’s Bistro again!

I really don’t understand the low reviews here. Maybe a couple of folks hit a bad night? We’ve never had a meal here that hasn’t been out of this world, from their huevos multeneos Sunday morning to their insanely fresh seafood and bonkers yummy deserts. I seriously had the best piece of salmon I’ve ever had here – and as an Oregonian, that’s saying something. The atmosphere is upscale-cozy, and staff have always been warm and friendly(even when we have our two young loud kids with us). It’s definitely a special occasion place – don’t expect it to be fast, but expect it to be exceptional.

I have eaten twice at Zach’s in the last two weeks, both times for a weekend brunch type meal. Both times my daughter had the Dutch baby(once with blueberries and once with pears), both times were excellent and worth the weight. Today I had a venison burger with blue cheese and salad, it was delicious, nice simple dressing on the spinach salad, great burger with a wonderful blue cheese and aiolo served on nice brioche roll. The first time I had a breakfast item which was excellent, corn tortillas, with eggs, habanero tomato sauce, served with ham and black beans, delicious. I haven’t tried their dinners yet but am intrigued by their different international nights(Greek, Indian, Spanish, French). Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely and delicious lunch at Zach’s! The house is beautiful, and has a great ambiance. The service was good. It was not fast, but we were not in a hurry; rather, we wanted to enjoy a nice afternoon at the beach, which is exactly what we got! If you’re looking for fast and efficient, this isn’t the place for you. If you’re on a date, or just having a take it easy and enjoy sort of day, GOHERE! In addition to the nice atmosphere and service, the food was amazing. We both got meat dishes(I had the culotte and bf had an elk flat iron) and salad, and were highly satisfied. The meat was tender and tasty and their fries are sooooooo good. Also, we thought the prices were really reasonable for the quality and quantity of food and overall experience.
