Had lunch today and it was just ok. Hubby said Hussein fish n chips were not great. Fish was dry. Crab cakes I had were just so so. Music was super loud, they need to turn it down so people can talk and hear each other. We probably will not go back

We chose this place because it was close to our hotel, and always busy when we passed. Good call for dinner! Fast service, really creamy and thick clam chowder — and the fish & chips were So Good!!! Big pieces of real, fresh fish! Delicious! We’ll go there again!

After a long flight and drive to Newport, my daughter invited me to her favorite restaurant, The Deep End Café. The atmosphere was delightful and the food was very good. Our waitress was a sweetheart. I highly recommend for the taste and feel of the Oregon Coast.

So very unimpressed. This was probably the most disappointing food we had our entire trip. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and that was the highlight. She was very patient through our table changes, and my daughter spilling her entire glass of water. The table change wasn’t because we are those type of people. The décor in here is pretty over the top and the tables were impossible to sit at. They were huge clunky affairs with nautical themed decorated centers. We were constantly bumping our chairs/legs into them. Very uncomfortable. I know it was seafood but the food was much too expensive for the portion price and quality. I had the Dungeness crab cocktail and it was a tiny little cup with small bits of crab swimming in a poor quality cocktail sauce. Basically ketchup. Nasty. My husband ordered a rock fish dish and the fish portion was tiny and overcooked. Nothing on the menu was inspiring. We probably should have gone with the fish tacos since those seem to be a better item to eat. Would not recommend.

We enjoyed a terrific lunch at Deep End Café on 5 January. Wait staff Mindy and Tianna were very friendly and attentive. Mindy even ordered a not-on-the-menu pasta dish for our seafood-averse mother. The Pacific Oyster Po’ Boy and Rockfish Sandwich(that day’s special) were excellent, as was the clam chowder. Full bar. Amazing wall murals. Big Kudos.

Went here the evening of New Years Eve when every other restaurant in Newport was closed or booked. Very impressed! The wait staff was very nice and professional. A fun nautical themed restaurant with all sorts of great seafood. Will definitely return next time I’m in Newport!

Sooooo good. Amazing fish and chips and delicious popcorn shrimp. This is one of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast. Great chowder too. Also they have the best service in town. Great staff and amazing food. 5 star highly recommend.

Meh! I’ve had better. I’m giving it two stars for the friendly staff and for the fish tacos. Otherwise there was nothing special about this restaurant. I ordered an iced tea and it was served in one of those plastic Coca-Cola red cups from the 70s. Very disappointing not to mention gross. Regardless my boyfriend and I ordered fish tacos as our appetizer and they were just terrific. Excellent taste sensation! I will mention that we got the tuna tacos. Next up was our meals. I had the salmon sandwich and it was just OK. Nothing special about it and nothing remarkable. My boyfriend got the seafood avocado salad and it came without avocado. It took us a while to find our waitress because I think she thought everything was OK. We told her there was no avocado and she was shocked. But she did bring it back right away. This place is long in the tooth and needs a complete overhaul including better things on the menu. The staff though was very friendly as stated earlier and they made what could’ve been a terrible experience a better one.

This place was a Unilocal find! Food was excellent and great service! Food was on the table 10 minutes after ordering. The shrimp pita was excellent as well as the turkey melt!

Came in after a long drive from rockaway beach, desperate for a club sandwich, sometimes I crave strange things on vacation… Our server Mindy was fabulous, she recommended their homemade chips, they were wonderful btw, also had clam chowder in a bread bowl, delish! Food and service could not have been any better! super glad we came in, definitely highly recommend!

Delicious food, good selection, fresh seafood, fast and friendly service, family friendly. What’s not to like! They were extremely busy as it was a gorgeous day on the coast and a heatwave in the valley, but we didn’t have to wait long for our food and drinks were refilled without hesitation. The fish was fresh and tasty, and I saw some pasta dishes I plan to order next time.

We ate here on a Sunday evening. We shared the clam chowder and fish and chips. These were fine and served quickly. My main purpose for the review is to say thanks to one take charge waitress who really took care of us. The café seemed understaffed – most tables full, three servers, no bartender, the cook stacking food in the pass through. One waiter walked around filling waters while 8 of us(four different parties) waited in the foyer. But this waitress made a point to find us a table and seat us even though she had tons to do. So thanks.

Should have taken a picture of our food first… oops so just look at the picture of the steamers on Unilocal.Because my lunch looked just like that! Plus a Bloody Mary.. The steamers were superb! There was no grit at all in the entire dish and their sour dough toast they server with this was perfect to enjoy the amazing broth! And then we did a seafood combo. So fried. Fried. Fried. And Yummy! Fried rock fish, oysters and prawns and then fries. Well we cleared the plates! Their fried food was amazing! The fish was perfectly cooked! Crispy on the outside and tender in the middle and not overdone. Also our server(poor girl was the bartender, server and hostess) but she rocked it! She was really friendly and fast! So great job. The only negative I would say is they could use a little music. But that’s fixable!

We ended up here because our first choice of restaurants was too busy. What good fortune! The Deep End is kind of a café-meets-pub kind of place. Very cute, near Nye beach, across from the Performing Arts Center and just up the road from hotel row on Elizabeth. My wife had the panko breaded rockfish and chips. I had to try the crab and shrimp mac & cheese. YUM-O! It tastes even better than it sounds. You really must try it.

We ordered 3 fish & chips to go. The fries were cold. The fish was greasy & over cooked. They did not include the asked for katsup & ranch for the fries. No napkins. No forks for a really mushy slaw. $ 42 plus tip for a truly bad sad meal. This was on Sunday at 4:00pm March 29 It used to be a fairly decent place to eat.

The Deep End is in one of the best locations in Newport that for some reason has seen a lot of turnover. It was vacant for a long time before The Deep End opened. The beachy chic décor is adorable and the giant sea animals painted on the walls and seagulls hiding under the tables all create the perfect atmosphere for the location. We came for a somewhat late lunch so there weren’t a lot of people. I had the fish with homemade potato chips and my sweetie got the fish tacos. The dishes looked good but we weren’t really knocked out by either. His fish was cold and unfortunately heat is a big thing with him. It’s hard to compete with seafood because there are so many really good fish places on the coast. The chips and the homemade salsa with the fish tacos were standouts but the food was just okay. The service and overall experience was fine but nothing to write home about.

Excellent new-ish café, just yards from the Big Blue. They have both street parking, and a good sized lot — pull-in is just across from the Theater, and before the curve up to the lighthouse and park. The menu offered several different salads — but all of them save the Caesar said they had cucumbers(which I am very allergic to.) I asked if I could get one of the salads without the dreaded cukes and they not only made my salad safe for me – they added tomatoes! My favorite! The salad was crisp and amazingly fresh and wonderful — featuring the little bay shrimp the whales love so much — and a scoop of crab meat as well. Their house made blue cheese dressing was especially tasty. Husband wasn’t too hungry, so he went for the clam chowder which he says is excellent. The food is high quality; the service was excellent; and the building is comfortable and spacious. Their menu is varied without being overly expansive — and they have a cozy bar at the east end of their building, plus some covered outdoor seating as well. The only loss of a star was for the slightly over the top price point. I realize this is the Nye Beach area and the rent must be high — but such a light lunch for nearly $ 30? Probably not a second time.
