I was soooooo excited that Anna’s opened a location in Newton. Then when I tried this place I was even more happy to see a new option even closer to my place of business. Great food somewhat fast service even when slammed and pretty friendly staff! Definitely worth a try if you haven’t already. TACOS A++ BURRITOS A– … So I wrote this review then decided to go for lunch and my al pastor burrito was so greasy I can barely get it down, not to mention it’s all over my desk now! Beware!!!

The burritos are excellent and the options off the menu have been good so far. Highlights include the plantain and mushroom burritos. The salsas are really fresh but the chips are heavy and oily, keeping this from being a 5 star review. The prices are good, especially for kid’s meals which are only around $ 4 each. Why go to Chipotle when you get better food locally?(Plus no Nonovirus!)

I tried the fish tacos– and wow– there were just no flavor at all in those things. It tasted like I was eating the color white. Second I tried to go for some more flavor and got the coconut shrimp burrito. Well, it tasted like doing shots of mailbu and nothing else…#nothanks. My girl went with a more traditional approach and got steak quesadillas… which again, seriously lacked flavor of any kind. What’s the deal?! AMIGO!

Not pleased. Had a veggie tortilla and fried yucca. Veggie tortilla is basically just two pieces of squash, few chopped tomatoes and romaine lettuce. There is hardly any cheese and not much flavor to the thing. It cost $ 3 and I expected more. I wouldn’t mind paying more for a quality product. The yucca didn’t taste very fresh. I would of preferred it be fried to order, not reheated. Maybe other things on their menu are better but I won’t be trying my luck here. There are better options around.

An adequate enough burrito place. Better than others I’ve encountered around here anyway. I think the fact that they have to have a sign telling Newtonians how to eat a burrito wrapped in tin foil tells you everything you need to know about Mexican food around here. No place in Boston is going to compete with a Mission carnitas super burrito so I don’t even bother with the meat options. The plantain burrito on the other hand is fresh, spicy, and a nice blend of ingredients. Still think they could up the size a bit and the rice is always a bit too hard, bland, and grainy, but it does in a pinch

Very fresh, big portions, and nice variety in the menu. Spicy meats and fried shrimp are some unique menu items that you wouldn’t find at Anna’s or any other overrated taquerias in the area. Got the tropical fish tacos which had beer-battered shrimp and mango salsa on them. Could taste the fresh salsa and guacamole giving the tropical vibe, and the portions did not disappoint. These 2 tacos were huge. Chips are also fresh and the guacamole is very authentic. Stop here if you’re in the Newtonville area!

What a pity my coworkers and i just discover this place mere months before our office moves. An absolute godsend for good food for busy people, ordering online works extremely well and the food is made to spec perfectly on time. Better still, their burritos are extensively configurable, with a vast number of choices. Particularly impressive is the choice of meat, with really good spicy versions of a few available. All this for around $ 7. Alas, we hardly knew ye!

I came to know about this place around 10 days back and I have already been there twice. This place stands out because of the fresh ingredients and great fusion of flavors. There are plenty of options in the menu for burritos/tacos/salads and you can also build your own. The reason I like this place is because their burrito filling is fresh and hot, unlike other burrito joints. Moreover, they have guacamole already in almost all of their options. If you like crispy wraps, trying their quesadilla is a must!

The burritos are the best! The ingredients are very fresh and tasty. My favorite thing though is the staff is willing to listen! They customize to almost anything possible and it really means a lot to a customer. I recommend building a burrito for your needs. There are really simple ways to make it healthier like asking for whole wheat or brown rice. If you’re looking for spicy, ask for extra salsa roja.

Really fresh and tasty Mexican takeout, and very reasonably priced. I usually opt for the carnitas plate, and haven’t been disappointed yet. Los Amigos is a takeout staple in our house–

The food is very good. The coconut shrimp burrito is excellent. Overall the food is a big step up from the burrito chains. The prices are very reasonable. The reason this review is three stars is the service. So tough seeing a place with good food shoot themselves in the foot. Completely agree with everyone knocking the girl at the counter. Brutal. The other awful part about Amigos is the music. They’re always blasting really bad rap where every lyric is «f*** a n***a, I s*** on a n***a» etc. The song that was on last night, literally every line rhymed«n***a» with«n***a». Personally I don’t mind this music, but blasting music with words like these just creates a bad vibe in the room, especially for a Newton clientele. I would be uncomfortable walking in here with kids.

My wife and I got to try this place earlier this week. We both got the steak burrito. The meat was a bit chewy and not as seasoned as I would like, the guacamole was good, the rice was good. But for me something seemed kind of missing. It seemed like a good homemade effort of a burrito. My wife did like hers and she is usually more picky about her Mexican Food so we will try again and see how the 2nd time goes.

Nice little spot in Newtonville. A very complete menu with mainly burritos but also salads, tacos, and specialty burritos. Two of our party had the Amigos Salad — freshly made and with lots of good stuff in them. Two of us had burritos. Also very good. The price was a bit higher than I expected, but not completely out of line… Right around $ 9 per person. Not much seating so probably a good idea to take out of you have more than 4 people or if it’s busy.

Amazing Mexican. Fresh, healthy ingredients. Super helpful staff – who always get our super complicated«on the side» «extra this» «omit that» order correct. If I had written this review several months ago I would have docked a star for the loooong lines I would sometimes encounter in there(like I said, the food is good;), but I discord the app(which is fantastic and so easy to use). Love this place.

I almost don’t want to review this place because I’m addicted to them and don’t want long lines! Their Surf & Turf Burrito is TODIEFOR. Get it as a bowl and it’s even better. The shrimp is freshly grilled just for your order and the sauce is just amazing. The fish tacos? solid. The Chicken«special» burrito? really good. Honestly I’ve had about 30 Surf & Turf burritos or bowls from them at this point. OHMYGOD I WANTONERIGHTNOW! Another cool thing is they use this papery foil on their burritos that’s just easy to deal with. The other local-ish place uses regular tin foil that’s annoying in comparison.

Great little place I stumbled on to while driving through Newtonville. Very little I must say with only one table and half a dozen stools at a counter in the window. Was there today for lunch. It wasn’t packed but steadily busy. I was impressed with their creative menu. It’s the same idea as Chipotle by making your own burritos and bowls but Los Amigos is certainly an upgrade. They have multiple salsas including corn, mango and eggplant — I didn’t get to try them but they sound very interesting. They also have a bunch of signature menu items such as a Surf & Turf, Plantain and Coconut Shrimp burrito! I had such a hard time deciding but ultimately went with the Al Pastor Bowl with guacamole(only $ 1!). It came up in 5 minutes and was SO flavorful. I also got a side of sweet fried plantains — an enormous container for only $ 5! Some of the best I’ve ever had! Lunch for two for less than $ 20 for quick quality food can’t be beat. This place is awesome!

This review is solely for the tropic style fish tacos, which I order usually once per week. I like variety in my meals, but Los Amigos is the exception. My boyfriend and I live in Newton and order takeout from Los Amigos weekly and I always get the exact same thing. The tropic style fish tacos are incredible — large beer battered shrimp, lots of mango salsa, guac, shredded cabbage, and a «baja crema» sauce which is delicious. Also, they are a steal at 7 bucks for two very huge, very filling shrimp tacos. I can’t speak much to their other offerings. However, my boyfriend has tried a variety of their burritos and has liked them all, especially the Al pastor. Highly recommended for high quality, fresh, and inexpensive Mexican take out.

Went here to get take out and I must say their burritos are very affordable as well as delicious! They also work very quickly to get your food out — it felt like it took no time. Got the 10″ Al Pastor specialty burrito w/guac(+$ 1) and the pork was perfectly cooked, but the marinate caught my tastebuds off guard — it reminded me of some Mexican fusion food I’ve had at other places. However, it was still good, but just not my cup of tea since it was a little too bold in flavor for me… and Mexican food is the only kind of food I don’t like being too bold in that manner. I wasn’t really hungry, but the burrito filled me up and wasn’t too greasy, which I appreciated since I’ve had some pretty greasy burritos in my time. Overall, great little local place to get some cheap, good Mexican food! Will probably be back to give them another shot and try out some of their other burritos or just build my own :)

I’ll admit, I’m a closet Chipotle fan. Okay well not so much a closet as a shout-it-from-the-mountain-tops fan. Dare I say, I’ve had moments where I think Los Amigos has them beat. I’ve never eaten in the restaurant, only takeaway… so I don’t know if the bright green walls would have me going crazy by the end of my meal… but OMG their various specialty burritos are spot-on incredible. Add a little extra hot sauce to spice things up a few more notches and I’m in hog heaven. My favorite so far has been the Al Pastor burrito… come for the burrito, but stay for the yummy pork bits. Yup, they’re one of the greats in my book.

There are many burrito spots around the Boston area and Los Amigos is as good as you’re going to get. Dan, the owner, is extremely passionate about his business and product and makes sure to serve only the freshest and tastiest ingredients. After over 10 years of ordering burritos, I know specific ingredients to put in my burrito, but there is a large list of creations for those that aren’t familiar with specific ingredients. Personally, I’ve had the surf and turf which is delicious. As for my burrito, I get cheese, rice, black beans, chicken, salsa(pico de gallo), sour cream, guacamole, and hot sauce. I love the blend of the flavors and all the ingredients have life. Both in taste and color, Dan’s passion is truly accentuated in the product he serves. The place has a decent amount of seating for the location, but if you’re in a rush, you can be in and out in 5 minutes. Obviously, it gets rather busy from 11:30−1 for lunch and 5 – 7 for dinner, but serving time doesn’t slow down much, if at all.
