I was in Newton today and popped in Tommy Doyle’s for a quick lunch at the bar. The bartender Katie was really friendly and super helpful. They have lots of good craft beers on tap and a nice menu. I got the Fish Reuben. And fried pickles. YUM! I also had a Sam Rebel Grapefruit. The food came out fast ! Nice hometown bar. Very welcoming. I will definitely be back!

Wow~first things first, they have a Fantastic menu! There are selections to make everyone happy! We had a large group and ordered 5 appetizers to pass, they were all amazing — try the corned beef spring rolls, those were our favorite. Our main order was mixed both off the specials list and regular menu; everyone was happy, everything was great! Adding to the experience was phenomenal service, our waitress was attentive and accommodating. We will definitely return soon!

Usually I really like this place. My fiancé and I always get the same thing– a quesadilla and a Reuben, and have a great experience. But tonight ruined it for me. We went in and waited to be seated but no one and. Eventually a bar tender yelled over to seat ourselves. We grabbed our own menu and checked it over. Unfortunately, the Reuben was no longer on the menu so we got the Irish cubano. The bar tender came over to take our order. She was the only employee in the restaurant. She came back with our waters a few minutes later and we waited for our food. When we got our food, we asked for malt vinegar. The waitress never returned with it. We ate our quesadilla despite the fact that there were onions in it which we asked to not have. We finished our drinks and they were never refilled. The waitress served the other tables around us 7 times and never checked on us. We waited around after piling up our plates and she still never returned. Eventually I just had to look up the food prices online and leave the money on the table. As a waitress, I understand it’s Sunday and not a lot of servers are put on the schedule but this was sad. I know it’s hard being the only server but if you have time to check on everyone else and get them what they want you can check on us too. I don’t know if I’ll be back at Tommy Foyle’s for awhile. I don’t like being ignored completely when I’m out to eat, especially when all I needed was some water and a condiment.

I have visited Tommy Doyle’s many times(over 30) in the past 5 years and my last experience was its worst. I would normally give a 4 star as the food and service and good. But when visiting the last time, it was not good — had to return hamburger was it was well done… asked for medium rare — received someone else’s bill — had to ask ketchup 3 times but ended getting it from another table — speaking of other table, they asked for water two times and it took almost 10 minutes Will probably go back back but they need to do some work.

I’ve been here 3 times. First visit was strictly to the bar and the service and drinks were great. Second visit was for food. The food was great but the service was slow. We had to flag our waitress down for the check. Also, it was dead inside so I shouldn’t have to wait to find my waitress. Third visit was for food again, I can’t stay away from the Irish Cubano. Great food(again!) and our server was pretty good. Another server brought someone elses food out so I flagged her down to ask her what it was. We made eye contact. EYECONTACT, people and she then just turned and walked away. She avoided us the rest of the night. I just had a simple freaking question. Damn. I’ll probably just stick to the bar or ordering food for take-out.

Most people really like this place in Boston but I’m from Maryland and I was visiting friends from Boston. We were celebrating my friends first drink. But it was not a very good bar. I hate to write bad reviews but I have to tell the truth. The service was bad some guy was just texting the whole time but the drinks were good. But the service was just awful. Good place if ur grabbing a drink and going but not a nice bar to sit at.

Always a solid local place to get food. It is usually our go to in the area when we don’t know where to go. They always have a great rotation of beer and a nice cocktail list for a Irish pub.

Great place for some good chili and beers! If they ever start serving pulled pork nachos again I would give it a five star.

Tasty veggie burger for the vegetarians out there! I also had the fried pickles, and they were a little heavy on the batter(might have been in the deep fryer for too long) but also very yummy. They come with a delicious avocado ranch dip. The menu has a huge variety of options, and plenty of beers on tap. Service was very friendly but not the most attentive. I would definitely go back.

Went last week while waiting for my car to be serviced at Paul’s foreign auto(walkable). Was not wanting brunch or other full meal once I saw they had fried pickles and baked soft pretzels! I love pickles and since being down south have not been able o find good ones up here. They were fantastic! As were the baked pretzels with grain spicy mustard. Also had a bloody mary asked for it extra spicy. Yummy! The bartender was very friendly and we chatted about my car and finding good mechanics. I will definitely return to try some real food(and get more fried pickles!). Didn’t feel comfy with a 5 star based on what I ordered but after a future visit and a real meal may edit.

Love this place! Amazing beer menu which is updated often. I wouldn’t say that fancy cocktails are their strong point — but I don’t mind because the beer selection makes up for it. Food is really good — not your typical«bar food». I love the California Club sandwich. We live right down the street so it’s our go-to place for an easy weeknight now.

Tommy Doyle’s. What can I say about this place. This is one if those bars that you love. It is one of those places that changes your life. I’ve been a regular at Tommy D’s for five years. I come once a week. On Tuesday. Tim Ko hosts the open mic. Great guy. Great guitar player.

Another reviewer said redemption, I don’t know. The general manager sent me a $ 50 gift card for the evening managers rudeness. A free meal and still would rate one star. We were winning at trivia, until we found out the prize. Another gift card… Check please. Have not been back since. Too bad, it’s in a great location and walking distance. In one word Bummer.

Congratulations, Tommy Doyle’s, for breaking my 20+ year stint of being a vegetarian by ignoring my request for a breakfast burrito with NOMEAT yesterday. After 2 bites, I was alarmed & disgusted to find a huge chunk of sausage in my mouth! Yes — you comped my meal, but you cannot take back that disturbing experience. Vegetarians — stay away from this place. The waitress was nice & apologetic, but the kitchen staff are apparently not very bright or don’t give a crap about the customers. Shame on you, Tommy Doyle’s!

A Story of Redemption: A little bird told me there were some major changes in the kitchen, so I thought I would give Tommy Doyle’s another try. The good news: The staff and atmosphere continues to be wonderful. The place is always clean and comfortable. The better news: The kitchen has been rescued by a new chef, better food, and fancy square plates. The salmon was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The steak tips were seasoned and cooked just as requested(medium rare). The vegetables were fresh, and the beer was COLD. Our meals were everything we wanted them to be. Its obvious the management cares about their patrons, and this new menu will surely keep them coming. Good job Tommy!

Good beer selection, solid fish and chips(big portions too), comfortable seating, good waitresses and servers. Can’t ask for much more from an after-work dinner spot.

Rave, rave, rave… I brought a group of 28 women in for a pit stop before heading to the Paint Bar. I had called ahead and told them we would be stopping in and that some women might want to order food. Not only were they ready for us, but everyone had time to order food and have a couple of beverages before we moved on. The food was great, the service was fantastic. Kudos to Tara and Roisin!!! I have done several ladies’ night trips and this was the best pit stop we have ever made! Thank you!

Was looking for a place to get steamed mussels while in the area. Used my Unilocal app to help find TD’s. Didn’t realize it was Stump Trivia night. I stuck around while enjoying my mussels and clam chowder. Service was good. They were very nice. Unfortunately they don’t have a grill grill. Just the flat grill like at Mickey D’s. I wanted to order some wings grilled. Been to a few places who do that and they were awesome. I took a shot.
