Was really hoping for a better bagel. the older person helping me had a hearing issue and could not understand me and became annoyed… should he be waiting on customers. bagels were dense and chewy. Wont be back, but i did like the selection of multiple every-things. Why cant each type of bagel have their own bin?

I don’t know… 3.1234 stars sounds about right. Their motto is «Bringing the taste of Olde New York to Newtown». I agree in certain areas, but disagree in others. First off the owner has the attitude that you would find in many NY deli’s, which comes off as hey, take us or leave us, very little patience for the newcomers trying to scope things out or to answer questions. The young lady that helped us was very friendly, but he kept jumping in. They hand make, boil and bake their huge variety of fresh bagels and these guys are large, they have the perfect texture, soft and chewy. They also have a couple of special bagels of the day, like the French toast or the glazed cinnamon raisin they had today. Thing is they have so many bagels all on shelves in open baskets and the shelves are mislabeled as to what bagel is where AND they should really have a sign that says«no serving yourself» or «please ask or wait for assistance» I thought for sure I was going to get my hand slapped They blend their own cream cheese spreads, which are sweet or savory, don’t quote me but there were at least 21 flavors of cheese spreads and I had her scoop me out three different ones, all of which are mighty tasty. They do quite a business, more seemed to take it to go, but some choose to sit in one of the large booths along the wall, which has free WIFI and TVs,. either way they will toast your bagel for you and shmear it with cream cheese if you so desire. If you’ve been to a NY deli, you’ve witnessed how they over stuff their sandwiches, where trying to get your mouth open wide enough to take the bite and this place advertises on their web site that the sandwiches are overstuffed, ha, don’t be fooled folks, it’s not true, I tell you. First off I had ordered a grilled ham and Swiss cheese on rye, I was even asked again what kind of cheese and do you want anything on it, I told her Swiss and mustard and I want it grilled. I ordered for hubby saying he wanted his cold and with ham and provolone on rye, she asked if he wanted anything else on his sandwich and asked again, do you want it cold, he said no to additions and I said not even lettuce, tomato or onion and then I turned to her and said well I don’t since mine will be grilled. He got his cold sandwich and I got a cold sandwich as well, which really bummed me out, so I gave it to hubby. If I wanted a cold sandwich I would have certainly stacked it with some cold crisp veggies, but we were already home and I was not about to drive the twenty minutes back and the owner who kept jumping in had even repeated that I wanted it grilled, yet when he rang me up, not only did he overcharge me(and why hubby asked me to go back in and get the receipt) but I went over it as I unpacked the bag, but he also did not notice my sandwich was cold and not grilled. Anyway, I will have nightmares over this, kidding folks. Each sandwich comes with a side and it is served in a very small soufflé cup, but never fear they sells chips, fresh muffins, cookies and sliced cakes from Old City bakery. They have a small deli when it comes to meats and cheeses, a nice selection of homemade salads, like whitefish, tuna, shrimp, seafood, egg salad, chunky chicken salad, potato salad, a very good macaroni salad, Cole slaw and more. Today they had eight homemade soups, they sell lox, whitefish, baked salmon, herring, hummus, baba ganoush, tahini, thin crust pizzas, wraps and that list goes on. They will make you a sandwich out of almost anything in a zillion different varieties and claim to make a twenty four inch sub like we used to get back home. Their bread comes in from, she said NJ, he said NY so it comes from a bakery out of one of those two places, daily and the very little bit of bread they had left was a white, wheat or rye. Not sure how they made it until 10:00am with so few loaves of bread and choices, seeing they open at 5:00 seven days per week and they serve lunch and breakfast all day, closes around 5:00 or so, different times are posted in different places. But never fear, they kettle boil the bagels right there and almost any sandwich is offered on a bagel. The bread was very good, the bagels were outstanding, this is a one of a kind family owned shop and they have the right idea with just enough attitude. I know I’ll be back, anxious to try their platters, soups and a twenty four inch sub. I won’t get their garlic bagel again, it was loaded with garlic, which I love, but I hate burnt garlic and this stuff was nasty. Hot chocolates, many teas, including Chai, coffee drinks galore, fresh juices, sodas and fresh fruit smoothies. I’m trying to decide which bagel to have next, I think I”ll go for the salted pretzel. The owner who rang me up for $ 41.30 asked why I had so many five’s and ones to pay with, I’m thinking that is none of your business, but I answered, when I should have said oh I always pay like this when I’m about to review a place!
