The best thing about 80⁄20 is the pickle chips and that dirty south sauce!!! I love it!

This is a great late night eatery(open till 2am). For a restaurant that specializes burgers, I was expecting«out of the world burgers». The menu does offer lot of unique options but the flavor of the burgers we ordered were good… Not mind blowing. The restaurant is very spacious for a joint in downtown Norfolk. We found the staff to be friendly but the service was a bit slow.

How is this only 3.5 stars? Quality. Customer service. Everything. YUM Pony tail guy @ the door is super awesome and always remembers me and my husband. Sarah the bartender is a blast to be @ the bar with. The only servers we have had happened to be the two skinny girls with dark hair both times & they are both equally awesome. Everything is SUPERDELISH, bathrooms are clean, casual homeless guy who is across the street who will wash your car if you drive(why not?!). Fortunately we live a block away so we walk & drink. I mean walk and have dinner. YAY80⁄20!

Come Early!!! This place lives up to the hype like others only wish they could. We walked in to meet friends at 5:10 good thing we did because by 5:17 it was a 30 minute table wait and by 5:30 the bar was packed! One of my most liked things about the place is they could have jammed packed in tables but did not so it feels comfortable and you are not intruding on others personal space wow what a great idea! The menu is awesome great beer selection awesome drinks and the apps look out of this world but the money is in the burger. A wide array of burgers and toppings are available with different cheese and aloili choices and the sides are all wonderful and house made. I did a «that guy»(build your own) with Bacon, fried onions and smoked pork(they call it pible) and it was a winner! Service was on point and I am drooling at the thought of another visit!

80⁄20 Burger Bar isn’t my first choice for a burger place. Especially for a place with«burger» in their name, where you assume the burgers would be amazing, everything was just average. I came here on a Sunday night and it was fairly busy, but not packed. Summer tourist hasn’t quite hit yet, so parking wasn’t too bad. We found parking a little down the road, on the street. They do have other lots around the area. When we got in, it took a little bit for the host to come seat us. I’m not really sure what he was doing, but it was super slammed, and it looked like he was just walking around. The waitress was super sweet, and came over to greet us once we were seated. We got an order of the fried pickle to share. I decided on the heritage burger. It is a bison burger with caramelized onions, and gruyère cheese. The fried pickles were amazing. I was a huge fan. They were fresh out of the fryer and still burning hot. The sauce it came with was on point too. The burgers took a while to come out. I liked that the waitress seemed knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended that I get the bison burger medium, which I did. I don’t know if that’s why it took so long to come out, but they weren’t too busy at that point either. I had also asked for tomatoes, lettuce and onions. When the burger came out, they forgot the tomato, lettuce, and onions and the runner already walked away. The waitress never came back to check on us or to ask how our food was, and I was too hungry to wait for it. The fries were suppose to come with your choice of aioli, but she never asked us what we wanted and nothing came out with it. The burger itself was okay. It was huge, and the bacon was good. The bison itself wasn’t seasoned too well and was a little on the bland side. It was more towards a medium well then medium as well. Eh. It really wasn’t too impressive. They give you a lot of fries, and they were good, but nothing blew my mind. The waitress was so friendly, but the food took longer to get out than normal and they forgot a bunch of stuff. I wouldn’t make the trip back here for an average burger. I saw that they do serve brunch, but I’m not sure how good brunch at an average burger place would be.

I wish I was not a tourist so I could go back. I only got to see the late night menu and was pleased with the quality. The bison burger was one of the best I have ever had. The spiced fries are not for the faint of heart. Great selection of beers, relaxed ambiance. If you are a Norfolk local, and like burgers/beer, do yourself a favor. Stop by.

100% my go to restaurant! I’m a flexitarian, but I LOVE eating burgers here! I am so picky with meat, and 80⁄20 never disappoints! They have a lot of good brews on tap, and their food is literally the best ever. I typically get the kids’ burger with smack n cheese(so good!) or brussel sprouts. Their fries aren’t so much my favorite, because they have different seasonings than I’m into, however, all my friends are always into the«weird» seasonings. They also have a late night menu from 11pm-2am, which is basically burgers & fries– you can’t go wrong here.

I’m trying to decide on how to rate this joint. So, I love 80⁄20 for its burgers. I’ve had quite a few here. All of them before I was elite though, so Ive yet to have a nice sit down review of the place. So, lets begin. 80⁄20 has fantastic burgers! With 80% lean meat and 20% fat its about the best equation for a delicious burger you can get. Add in some crazy fixings(Brisket, havarti cheese and horsey aioli makes a ‘junk drawer burger’) an you have yourself the beginning of a beautiful relationship with the most amazing burger you can get in the hampton roads area. Not only is the food good here, but they are true to supporting local farms. The beef is sourced form a farm in Shenandoah, VA– grass fed and finished, and they get other local protein and produce when its possible. And for that, I applaud them. Well, okay so we know their burgers are bomb. Typically I do not hesitate to answer«80÷20» when someone says, «Where can I get a good burger around here?». But during one of our recent Unilocal events I had another Unilocaler disclose how amazing the brunch was here. So it’s now been on my radar for a few weeks. And today was the day we decided to venture out and give it a shot! And I was SUPER happy we did! We started off with the $ 10 Singel mimosas. This was mostly something my sister wanted. I know what a mimosa is and how it tastes so I was very«meh» about it. But when it came out we shorty found out that ‘Singel’ was a beer!(we don’t know whats going on half of the time). So this became fun for me! The way it was presented was REALLY cute and beer and OJ was very intriguing to say the least. Alas, it was delicious! So I was over the moon about being able to try something a little out of my ordinary. I got something that was called like the Blue Hen, or something? It was fried chicken, over a biscuit with, i think it was supposed to be a spicy honey and garlic glaze and blue cheese crumbles? Something like that. When it came out it was more like… a wing sauce? And then the blue cheese crumbles. The blue cheese was potent. And although it wasn’t what I was expecting… it was still really good! My hash browns were cold, but still tasty! My sister got The Blue Collar Bene which was great! Hers came with hash browns too-cold-but still good. And we also got a side of Waffles. 2 waffles come in a side. These were AWESOME!!! Not a normal waffle batter. It was, sweeter? Im not sure. Something was different about them but they were awesome! All in all I had a really nice time! Get there right when it opens because it fills up fast and people like to camp. I’d totally come back for brunch again!

My server Dana was a delight and I’ll stick to my guns about what I said previously. This is a great place for some damn good burgers. What I don’t like a whole lot, though, is that they don’t open until 5 p.m. which is a drag because they would KILL it for lunch. The burgers are a little pricey: $ 12 – 14 dollars but definitely worth it. Their burger combinations are definitely outlandish but all seem to make sense and sound delicious. I had a root beer sasparilla something or other drink– I wasn’t impressed. It had a really long, kind of gross after-taste, but everything else was pretty on point. Their drink list is pretty awesome– a lot of selections and on Tuesdays their wine is a 1⁄3 off, which is an interesting amount off, but it’s better than full price. This place fills up pretty quick, especially for a week day, but I was impressed with the service and I don’t think I could say it enough, but Dana was a really great server.

Been hearing about this place for the longest time, and finally tried them out. Gotta say I was pretty impress. As an App I had ordered their She Crab Soup and man oh man it was soooooo chunky, with lots of crab meat. Loved how every bite that there was crab meat in it! As for the Meal, I ordered the«up and at-em» which has a sunny side up egg and bacon in it(breakfast in a burger hehe). Once you bite into it you feel the sunny side up egg pop and just melts in your mouth with that savory bacon and burger patty, oh soooooo delicious and a must try!!! Better order an Aiolis for the fries, I tried the Dirty South and it was perfect! The time we got there it was happy hour so we ordered half off drinks, which was awesome!!! Bold Rock Hard Cider was my choice of drink. Had such a great waitress, so attentive and helpful. Over all it was an awesome experience!

3.5 Stars It was a beautiful day and the husband was craving some burgers. This was the place we figured would be perfect to take advantage of both. It has been a while since we’ve been here and since it was in Norfolk, I figured we would have to deal with street parking. The place has a decent parking lot in the back so no parallel parking needed. We walked passed the patio and noticed people enjoying the outside. We get inside and had to wait a bit for someone to get to the host stand. Husband asks if we could get a seat outside and we couldn’t since it was so busy inside. Womp womp. Well we get a booth inside and our waitress gives us glasses of waters immediately. She directs us to the drink menu which has plenty of options. I end up getting a Bold Rock on draft and husband got some kind of imperial stout that was only available by bottle. Still, plenty of options to choose from with a good amount of local brews. We also gave our waitress our food orders and we watched some March Madness on the bar TV screens. There was a bit of a wait for food, but the husband did point out that the place was packed with people. Our food comes out and we’re both happy with what we ordered. I ordered the Up and At’em burger with the inlet fries. My burger was cooked medium and it was a true medium with a little pink in the middle by the time I got to it. It was juicy and flavorful. I definitely think the burgers have a unique taste you can’t get anywhere else. My inlet fries were well seasoned that my husband got jealous over his pick. Husband got the Alamo burger and the house fries. He demolished his burger. The fries lacked parmesan flavor — I think it was overwhelmed by the rosemary because I couldn’t taste any parmesan either. Overall, I was bummed we couldn’t sit outside. Even after we left, there was people enjoying food and drinks outside. We left confused why we couldn’t be seated out there. There was that good wait for food, but with how good the burgers were — it was worth it.

Parking is tight. They have a lot in the back but it was completely full, but luckily we parked right off the street in front. I got the Up and At ‘Em, with pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar, plus lettuce and onion(you have to ask specifically for any toppings or they won’t put it on)! My burger was perfectly cooked medium well, the meat had lots of flavor, and they didn’t skimp out on the bacon at all. The bun held everything together, and it was a pretty huge burger with it all stacked up. For my side, I got the Border fries, which were flavorful and just the right amount of spice. My other friends, got the House fries and the NYC spice and I didn’t care for either of those at all. The House fries were bland, definitely didn’t taste garlic, Rosemary, nor Parmesan and the NYC spice fries were WAYYY too hot. Like, I put hot sauce on EVERYTHING I eat and I didn’t like these. The menu only says«fire hot pepper blend.» No warning or anything! Our server was never around, except for quick drink refills, so they were pretty much wasted. I definitely want to come back to try their other menu items, because it was seriously an amazing burger! But I didn’t care too much about the service too much.

I am updating my review because 80⁄20 has gotten even better. The cheese sticks are amazing, try them with both the red and white sauces. The fries and onions rings rock. The burgers are still the best in town; cooked perfectly with so many different toppings. The biggest change is the service. So much faster and friendlier. Our server Hank was great!

5 star for awesome beer selection, 3 star for my burger. Sours delight! A rare treat in Norfolk and a wonderful surprise. We had the Monk’s Café. If you like sours, this should be up your alley. And it’s on tap! Their draft collection and bottled selection is quite extensive and can please any beer palate. We came for the first time just for beers and knew we wanted to come back for beers so we did a few days later. So for our burger adventure… I think my fiancé got The Junk Drawer — a burger with brisket and horseradish aioloi. Very good burger — I tried it. Cooked to the perfect medium rare as ordered I got the Shell Bell also to medium rare and accurately cooked. I was less impressed with mine. It came with herb goat cheese that couldn’t possibly stay on the burger. It smushed everywhere which I guess I should have expected. But it over powered everything. It also had wild mushrooms which were tasty alone but lost in all the other flavors when actually on the burger. The fried onions also didn’t want to even think about staying on the burger and didn’t really taste like onions at all. They added nothing to the burger. And the burger itself was very salty, maybe trying to compete with the goat cheese? I loved the beer. They really have some unique selections. I think the burgers are hit or miss and you shouldn’t expect it to be good just because it’s a burger joint and it’s on the menu. They’re not all well thought out, at least mine wasn’t. So think carefully before you choose. We’ll be back and I will update this but I will be more reserves about my selection.

SIIIGGGGHHHHH… Ya knoowwwwwww… SIIIIIGHHH. LOL before I begin this review, lemme just say I’m so proud of Norfolk. Really stepping up their foodie game and I’m tweekin trying to get to all these hot new nibbly establishments. …having said that. *straight face* 80⁄20 was more liiiiiiike 80 percent disappointment 20 percent thank god I was drinking. I walked in, literally stood there as the hostess/waitress la-la-laaaa’d around until she got around to seating me. I was hyped by the reviews and it was only the local bar flies getting down so I figured service would be great. Err naw. I told the waitress I had never been the before and asked for her opinion on good choices. Maybe she was having a bad night. I’on know and i’on care, she was rude. Short.(In response not height) lol… unaffected and had alot of hustle for no damn bustle cuz NOONE was there. Soooo don’t get why the rush and impatience for questions. It was 10pm. Joint closes at 2. So I’m still lost. You ever just wanna trip someone? Me neither until this dinner. She just was flat and boring and unfriendly. Ick. Ok brass tax: DAFOOD! Welp, I think I should’ve chosen something else. I had a burger called the Lesner. Medium burger patty, lump crab meat atop a slice of super hard Gruyère cheese… just unmelted and a waxy mess and paired with thick cut fries with old bay seasoning and old bay-like aioli on the burger. …welp the Aioli was good and the fries were made of potatoes. So yay. That’s bout it. Smh. The menu was fun with cute names for the burgers like The Nanny which was a pb&j hamburger and it sounded adventurous and brave or the Uncle Jesse(I’m assuming from Full House the show) because it was a Greek burger inside filo dough. Sounded interesting. Maybe it is. Maybe it’s craptacular? I’on know but after the waitress and her lack of shyts to give I was turned off enough to not want to come back. Real shame. Final thoughts: Blah McBlahhhh… some things on the menu may be worth a try. I would just suggest you bring the wait staff a caffeine pill orrrr don’t come after dark. So wack. I comfort myself by hoping she’s the owners sister or sumthin. Siiigggghhhhh… yeah. See. I feel better. LOL2⁄5 uninspired noms. Do better!

This is probably a 3.5 star review. What is keeping me from giving it four stars was the fact that about half of our french fries were on the extra-crispy to hard brown side. If you are going to make your living serving burgers and fries then you have to nail both items perfectly as often as realistically possible. The burgers were cooked perfectly and came to the table juicy, delicious and ready to make you feel loved. My Up and At ‘Em, with that luscious egg and thick sliced bacon was exactly what I want in every burger I eat. I also ordered a drink called«The Count» which is their riff on a traditional negroni. I think it needs a little more work. Its best to serve the drink in a highball glass with one large ice cube to reduce melting surface area. The glass I got was too tall and had too much crushed ice in it which meant the drink was already watery by the time the waiter brought it to my table. However, my wife loved her Ginj Ginj, which was made with 80/20’s own Ginger Beer. It was devilishly«moreish» as they say. You just want more, more, more.

First off-I have no idea how I have lived in this area for almost a year and a half and have not been here. This place is hands down one of the best burger joints in the area. Eat your hearts out all other restaurants-this place knows what they are doing and flaunts it. Their beer selection is great-as well as their mixed drinks, wine and house made sodas. The appetizers looked great, but I was too distracted by the main course of BURGERS! I ended up getting the bison burger with Serrano peppers and pepper jack cheese… It was just… . The burger itself was medium rare and juicy to boot. The cheese and peppers weren’t overwhelming and I ended up hoovering it-like it didn’t stand a chance. I picked it up off the plate and it didn’t go back down. I will for sure be back to sample more of their combinations but for sure my first experience was a home run.

Going to places like this more than once reminds me that I have a not-so-private masochistic side. I’ve been 3 times and I’m not going back. Service has been downright bad and they don’t know how to cook a burger. Even a friend of mine who prefers medium burgers couldn’t stomach looking at the drippy, bloody mess of cow that was placed before her. This last time, I’d planned to take mine home and cook the heck out of it. But the blood dripped onto everything. Which really begs the question, why am I going to a burger joint dealing with the idgaf attitude of the servers, knowing that in the end I’m gonna have to take my food home to cook it properly in order to try to enjoy it? Because I’m a closet masochist. Others have had luck. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s me 3 times. Maybe. It just won’t be me a fourth. I almost forgot to mention: ~The cheesesticks, fries, deviled eggs, and pecan pie were disappointing, as well. Yes, I’ve tried all that and not had anything that worked for me. This is what«I really wanted to like this place» looks like.

Why o why have I waited so long to come here!!! This is a tough place to review mainly since I enjoyed everything. After a long week at work what’s better than a great meal? That’s exactly what I was thinking when my friend and I decided to swing by for dinner. This place doesn’t open until 6pm on weekdays so I was surprised that at 645 there was already a 25 wait for a table inside. However on a beautiful night like tonight we sat outside and were seated immediately. We started with 6 honey-garlic hot wings and an order of fried pickles. The wings were terrific and the pickles were in the top 5 I’ve ever had. I had the heritage burger. A bison burger with caramelized onions and bacon. My only fail was my choice of having a side of brussel sprouts for my side. I shouldn’t have tried to go healthy. It was a mistake. Everything was terrific and I can see now why this place has the reputation that they have. It is very well deserved. I’d come back again soon if my waistline could handle it.
