I walked out of this salon tonight with the worst haircut I have ever had… I asked the stylist for a trim for my bangs and to shape up my long layers. She ended up cutting my bangs straight across and super short(halfway up my forehead), and she cut about 3 inches from my length — no layers. Stylist lazily and unevenly sprayed my hair down with a bottle and on top of that let me walk out of the salon with wet hair… didn’t offer to show me the cut in the mirror but rather asked me to «run my fingers through my hair to see how it felt.» I am going to have to go to another place to get this cut fixed… Very poor experience, sorry to say!

So, after my second review, I got an email from the first stylist I had here, saying that they’d changed a lot of things about the salon and that I really ought to give them another try. Hands nervously clutching my previously-butchered hair, and keeping an ear open for«hey! didn’t you write that awful review? get the scissors, girls!» I walked back through the doors. Gotta say, I’m really happy I went back and gave the salon another shot. Ronnie(the stylist I’d had the first time I went in) gave me a really cute bobbed look. I’m really happy with the most recent look, and even after all my whining in the last review, I’ll be back again. Let’s hear it for second chances!

Back in August, I happened to notice Curl Up & Dye when I went to get coffee at Dunkin Donuts. Desperate for a trim, I figured I would give it a shot. I met my now Stylist Dana standing out front. I took a chance and I am so glad I did… When I wanted a big change, having no idea what I wanted I trusted her, and she gave me the most amazing style!!! And highlights! I get tons of compliments on my hair. Been there 4 times, and will keep going. i highly recommend Dana!

I came to curl up and dye as a fill in appointment after moving here from another state. I only came here after hearing a good review from a friend of mine… quite honestly I don’t know if I would have ever stepped foot in this place otherwise. The outside looks run-down, and quite possibly not updated from the 1980’s, and the inside is much the same– outdated chairs and décor. Don’t get me wrong, I do not always judge on outward appearances, but when it comes to professionals dealing with MY outward appearance, I think I have reason to! :) Next, the people inside the salon were eclectic, to say the least… not in a good way. Not many were very salon-like or even professionally dressed… most had on t-shirts and jeans. The next thing made me even more nervous– their hair wasn’t done, at all. Some were greasy, frizzy, and most had ponytails. I have had friends who have worked in salons, and they have all said that one of the perks is that you always have access to the best stylists, products, and gadgets… and again with what I said in the first paragraph, why should I trust someone with my outward appearance if they don’t take the time to make theirs look good. Finally, my hair cut. I asked for long layers with bangs. Simple and straight-forward. Then the stylist brings out the dreaded spray bottle. Big mistake with me… I know that trick! Even though I was paying $ 35 plus tip for a hair cut, I was still given a treatment akin to a great clips or a cost cutters cut. Then, she brought out the painful razor to cut my layers and bangs in the front. Painful! Number one, I’ve been told by many stylists to NEVER trust just anyone with a razor. You have to be very skilled to use one. Number two, razors should never pull hair like this one did! It means the blade is dull and the stylist is not taking care of their instruments. It was absolutely dreadful. On top of no blow-out/style at the end. Bottom line: $ 35, lazy spray bottle/dull razor cut, plus wet hair walking out of the salon. Best way to lose a new customer. IMO, overpriced salon with a lot of business plan issues to work out. The only way I think they stay in business is there is enough elderly in the area who, unfortunately, don’t know better or what a good cut is like. Please, take the time to go downtown or even to Virginia Beach to get a decent cut in a reputable day spa. It is worth it! Don’t settle for straight-up laziness.
