I’ve ordered here a few times before, and I’m pretty disappointed by our latest delivery. It took nearly an hour to get here(ordered at 7:37, didn’t get here until 8:30ish). The sushi tasted awful and looked like it was made in a rush. It was warm(raw fish). The new york hibachi was mostly fat and chewy. I don’t know if their food and service are dropping in quality, or if this was just an off day for them. Either way, one star from me.(If you do order from them, I recommend pick up obviously so your food doesn’t wait in a warm car because of a «delivery error»)

I order here all the time for pickup. Food is always good and pretty cheap considering Japanese is usually pretty pricey. I decided to order delivery one day I was not feeling too well. My order came to $ 11.26. Their minimum is $ 12 and I was made to order more inorder for them to deliver. I though this was ridiculous. It took them a little over 40 mins to deliver my food. Needless to say I’ll never order delivery from here again. But the food was good and I will continue to order out.

We were looking for the classic cheap hibachi take out and we found what we were looking for. The hibachi shrimp and chicken were very well proportioned, seasoned, and tasted great. However the miso soup was not to our liking we will be trying salads next time. Over all it hit the spot and we will be back.

Decent«fast Japanese food.» Ordered shrimp shumai which was just OK… yellowtail sashimi… good portion on the sashimi. Eel&avocado roll was good and steak teriyaki stick were very good. Also had an appetizer of shrimp tempura… don’t waste your money, definitely out of a frozen bag there was no traditional panko crust on these. But on a whole good Japanese take out close to base.

I thought I was going to be in for a treat but I was disappointed. I ordered the chicken beef and shrimp hibachi fried rice because I have been in love with house fried rice for the past few weeks. However in this fried rice there was huge chunks of meat and corn??? The rice didn’t really have much flavor to it. The meat was decent but I wasn’t used to the sauciness of the fried rice. Compared to Chinese house fried rice I would take that over what I had here tonight.

Just had lunch delivered from Tokyo Express. I ordered the L9. The steak and shrimp were both over cooked and the rice was not true Hibachi rice. The dressing for the salad was very runny. Far too many vegetables and minimal meet. Overall I was not impressed.

Price to food quality(and quantity) ratio is really good! Very good customer service too!

Been going here since it first opened. I live right around the corner and have eaten here on more than 30 occasions. Wards Corner has made quite the transformation from when it used to be a run down«mall». Sadly the eyesore strip club is still there and unfortunately right next to them.(this by no means should deter you from coming) The family running this restaurant is very hard working. Before getting to know them the food stood out against the other competition. Specifically the preparation of the chicken fried rice. It is REAL white rice cooked in a rice cooker sauteed and combined with freshly seared chicken breasts. It’s competition is usually the dry yellow rice with very minimal meat and is usually re-hydrated meat.(Wan Shung) For most take out Asian cuisine the rice is at least half the meal and theirs is leaps and bounds better than the competition. This is by no means meant to compete with restaurants that you would find in Downtown Norfolk that have tailored seating areas and premium cuts of meat. They are competing with places like Wan Shung and similar carry out Asian Cuisine. That being said they are simply the best choice for fresh and satisfying meals at bargain price. As a side note their spicy tuna is awesome, out of my 30+ orders from here I’ve had the spicy tuna roughly half the time. I am by no means a sushi connoisseur but this was good enough to get over and over again. Rating 5 stars for its standout performance compared to its direct competitors. *long time lurker and this is my first review. That being said I hope this place stays around for some time to come.

This place is definitely a hidden gem at lunch time. Every time I have been here I have left with a full stomach and no complaints. There are plenty of repeat customers here. The prices are pretty competitive for the area. Must definitely must try the lunch special can’t go wrong. The staff is pretty attentive and I never had to wait to get helped.

Stopped in at this place twice just to get a quick bite to eat before heading to the bus stop. I got the hibachi chicken with vegetables the first time, and the California roll the second time. The sushi taseted like something I could but anywhere it was nothing special, but the hibachi chicken was seasoned to perfection. The staff seemed kind of icy and impersonal, and the store itself could have been cleaner. All in all its alright place to stop, but I wouldn’t go out of my way just to go here. I would suggest going to sushi king in downtown Norfolk.

I just found out about this Japanese Restaurant a few days ago even though I had been by there several times. Probably the least expensive Japanese food I have ever had and pretty tasty!

This is a nice little find. I was originally going to stop in at Sai Gai a couple blocks over however it was after 2pm and they had closed for until the dinner hour. Using my Unilocal app I was surprised to find Tokyo Express was also close by so I hung a couple of lefts in the car and I was there and parked in just a couple of minutes. The place is small, as most of the shops are in this little strip mall. The dining area has a couple of 4 person tables, several 2 person tables and in the back there looks like there’s a 4 top there as well. I would image most of their business is take-out or delivery. I also took a look around and the place was very clean which is good. I placed my order at the counter and sat down. The young lady behind the counter was friendly while taking my order. While waiting I grabbed my bottle of Coke from the cooler and in about 6 – 7 minutes my food arrived. I had ordered Steak and Shrimp and the portion was big. By big I mean huge. More than I would normally eat for lunch. But hey it’s my day off and I’m going grocery shopping… They say never go grocery shopping hungry… The meal was really good. The veggies were fresh and the taste was spot on. I didn’t detect any MSG in the food(as mentioned in Steven A’s review). As I ate I watched the news on the little flat screen high on the wall. Cost of the meal including the 20oz bottle of Coke came out to $ 9.50. Totally worth it. I’ll be checking Tokyo Express out again really soon.

For $ 1.99 California rolls a couple doors down from a strip club, it wasn’t bad. However, looking back, I actually have no idea what I was thinking. But I survived, so I guess it’s pretty decent. We’d initially planned on dining in, but it was a 90 degree day, and the place was seriously lacking air conditioning. They just had fan up front, which did very little to cool things down. It was pretty unbearable, so I waited in the car for my food. Hopefully the refrigeration is strong for the raw fish. Overall it seems like they have some good deals here, and the food was fine. Definitely not a fancier choice, but good for a quick lunch or dinner.

Felt like having Udon so I went in an ordered despite the reviews. It took awhile, at least 30 mins. with a couple people ahead of me. I also ordered steamed shumai. There were plenty of other items like yakisoba. The staff was pretty friendly, saying thank you a few times. I got home and to my surprise was also a shrimp tempura. That alone is worth a star. The shumai were good and had a nice sauce. The nabeyaki(chicken) udon was a good soup too, was surprised to find 2 fish cakes in there since I didn’t order the seafood… But what if one doesn’t like fish? It also had a fried egg and pretty good quality chicken breast, not the weird fake tasting kind you normally expect. The broth and veggies were ok. Like I said, pretty good soup, just wish it was ramen. Not sure why such bad reviews here… Probably just be picky about what you order and it’ll be fine.

Ordered dinner from here. Food came within about 30 minutes. The fried rice was the best part of the meal. I can actually say it was delicious. I got the shrimp and scallop hibachi dinner. Shrimp was rubbery at best but the(thin) scallops were pretty good. There were way too many(hard) vegetables and maybe 3 each of scallop and shrimp. The meal also came with a salad, with I guess some kind of ginger dressing??? I poured it on my salad and it looked way too much like vomit for me to even taste. Also stay away from the sushi: I ordered the dragon roll and the roe on top was very watery and really unappealing. Stick to a real hibachi place where you watch them cook if you can!

Its a skanky location but I was in the area and needed a quick lunch. Turned out to be pretty cheap as well. For $ 6.95 I ordered the shrimp and chicken lunch special and ended up with a massive plate of food. The shrimp were a good size, loads of chicken, heaps of vegetables and a mound of fried rice. Not to mention the stryofoam cup of alleged miso soup to start which you should leave on the table as a decoration. I couldn’t even finish my food and I was hungry when I sat down. Service was negligible but it was only lunch so no biggee. I probably didn’t need that second glass of water anyway. But later in the day I certainly needed it as I had to repeatedly peel my tongue from the roof of my mouth. A classic sign of an MSG-laden meal. No wonder it tasted good! I didn’t even dare look at the sushi offerings. You couldn’t pay me enough to eat it. Now if I had more time I could have stopped in at the strip club a few doors down for some early afternoon sight seeing but it wasn’t to be. I knew I could never convince my superiors that I was in my appointed place of duty.
