Its best if I don’t have anything good to say not to say much. I

My earlier review was 4 stars, and this one is 5 — but I would really make it 4.5 if that was possible. I stayed here again recently, this time again as a freebie(they didn’t give it to me, it was an «earned» freebie with my Hilton points). Checked in… no problem. Went to my room, everything fine — except — the coax cable coming out of the back of the TV. Instead of going into the wall, it was just draped over the side of the table that it was sitting on. Weird. Took a look at it, and it looked like it had been pulled from the wall; the«barrel connector» that would be part of the wall plate was still on the end of the cable. I didn’t feel like being Mr. Cable Repairman(though I probably could have done it) and called the front desk. A handyman shows up about 15 minutes later. Takes a look at it, seems astonished; says that the housekeepers are supposed to check the TV whenever they clean a room, and report a problem if something’s wrong. Obviously didn’t happen! Anyway, he apologized, and said that he didn’t have the parts or equipment to fix it. And he also said that they had no available rooms to switch us into. He asked if we’d like to have them find us a room at another hotel… …well, watching TV isn’t THAT important! So we told him not to worry about it. He didn’t want to just leave us without TV though — after all, that’s part of what we’re supposed to get when we book a room. So he said he’d tell the front desk to «comp» our room, no questions asked, using the«100% Hampton Satisfaction Guarantee.» Seemed like overkill to get a free room just because of the TV, but he insisted. Since I wasn’t paying anyway — Hilton points, remember — the bill was going to say zero anyway. But true to their word, a few days later the Hilton points were posted back to my account. Got the bonus points I’d been expecting too. So it’s not a good thing that a broken TV is something that SHOULD have been noticed and fixed — but a very good thing that they realized their mistake and gave me the room for the night for free, without me having to ask for it.(And I wouldn’t have asked for a free room anyway — perhaps I would have asked if they could give me a free UPGRADE the next time I stayed there.)

I think I must be turning into a hotel snob… There wasn’t really anything wrong with the Hampton in Norman… but there wasn’t really anything right either. It’s by far the smallest Hampton I’ve ever been to and was one of the worst hotel breakfasts I have ever had. On the plus it was clean, the bed was comfy, and the cleaning crew took good care of us. Next time we plan a visit, we’d probably stay again, but we may explore one of the other local hotels too.
