Since I’ve moved to Chicago I’ve noticed that most comic book stores are teeny-tiny and have the feeling they’ve been around since the 80s. Atlas is a store like that but actually is one of the best I’ve been to in the area. Despite the small size they carry a great stock and utilize the space well. The staff is very friendly and not pushy. This place is a little too far from my house, which is shame because I would easily make it a regular stop.

This is my second favorite comic book store outside of Chicago. Nice selection, friendly staff.

This small shop is THE comic book gem of the North Side of Chicago. The owner is friendly and always willing to help you find what you’re looking for. They have a massive back issue selection of good old and hard to find books that you just won’t find in the chain comic shops around the city. They also have a wide selection of trade paperbacks as well as toys, statues, and busts. It’s not a dark cave for antisocial dorks either. It’s friendly place that welcomes kids, women, and moms. And as I said above, he always goes out of his way to get you that book that you need. In fact, almost every time I go in, he’s on the phone hunting some obscure book for someone with his vast connection of comic book contacts.

Atlas has a good selection and John, the owner, is helpful. It is weird though because I have been there on two occasions where John has not been there and when I brought my purchase to the counter to pay, it was like the guy working there was doing me a favor to get up from the TV to take my money. Aside from that, Atlas is a pretty good comic store.

Atlas comics is great the owner is one of the nicest people I have ever met. The store itself has a great selection the only thing bad is that their online website definately lacks organization. However the store itself, service, quality, and the owner are great.

Atlas Comics is a stand-out comic shop: reasonable prices and frequent bargains. Owner John Stangeland is also a comic book pro with years behind the desk for various companies, but unlike the geeks in the local Wizardworld Artists Alley, John kept the store and chooses to throw annual sale days that will blow you away. He is a consultant to the local library on graphic novcels, etc, ., and has helped me find stuff worthy of reading both in the new titles bins and the bargain bins, and I’ve never been burned. A GREAT place to talk the comics trade, movies, gaming and collectibles, Atlast is my local choice: cleaner than Quimby’s and closer than Chicago Comics, which is an icon in Chicago, but really far away.

I read an article in the local paper a couple of years ago about this place and it’s owner. But it was just recently that I went by to check them out. They have an amazing selection of classics and newer comics and collectables. I am not an authority on comics by any means but it sure looks like the owner of this store is.
