I’m not a Middle Eastern food expert, but I do eat at some pretty high-end restaurants so I know a thing or two about good food. I am obsessed with Bab Al Salam. I work pretty close by and ordered pickup 2 weeks ago, delivery today(also eaten there once in the past). The food is absolutely delicious. The last two times I ordered the Vegetarian Combo plate and an Arabic Salad. SOMUCHFOOD! And every bit of it is awesome! I don’t even like falafel — and this place totally changed me. I am now a falafel fan. I also don’t really write Unilocal reviews, but this place deserves some love. Well done, Bab Al Salam! If you’re on the fence at all, just eat there and thank me later.

This place could easily be 5 stars, but the pitas are so bad, they must be old store bought pitas, if these are being made at the restaurant, they should give up on them. However all the meat is incredibly flavorful, and perfectly cooked.

Had the combo plate: shish kabob, shish taouk, kifta and shawarma… Also had a tabouleh salad, but it think I enjoyed the Jerusalem salad more(tomatoes, cucumber, mint, tahini and yogurt — yum!)

The Chicken Shawarma plate was delightful. Moist, flavorful, the note of orange made this suprisingly light. The rice pilaf was above average, the rice was right on and the sliced almonds were fresh, crunchy, and pleasantly nutty. The side salad was quite weak with chopped iceburg and a slice of cucumber. I also had the falafil and they were very good, nice crunch, moist, and a hint of peppery heat. I’d would certainly eat there again.

Great little diner-type joint in the corner of a strip mall. The food is fresh and authentic and affordable. Look out Pita Inn, there a new young gun in town! Definitely worth a stop for a great Middle Eastern meal.

This is the most authentic Middle Eastern food in the area. If you are about the taste of the food and not the ambiance or other BS, this is the place to go. It’s not water down like Pita Inn, Naf Naf or other places in the area. And it actually has natives cooking the food(also as opposed to other places in the area). Prices are also reasonable and I have invited a person that wasn’t satisfied. Don’t settle for knock-offs, try this place.

Loved the beef shawarma and the homemade hummus was soooo tasty. The beef kabobs have great flavor and the portions are decent. Mom, dad and I ate for $ 22

Really good authentic food. The combo plate is always to die for and I like the lentil soup a lot. It reminds me of the soup I used to get at my favorite Nepalese restaurant funnily enough! Really good food and really nice people. I would highly recommend it!

Fresh everything and gracious service. Completely authentic with older gentlemen talking business in native language. There is a great deal of diversity in this area for food — some are risky but Bab Al Salam is a gem. When close to O’hare you must go here.

I absolutely love this place because of great food, which is authentic Jerusalem cuisine. I want to try everything on the menu but so far I love every single item. Prices are great and owner/chef and his daughter are the nicest people. But he way«hummus with meat» is my favorite dish but I love sandwich too

Chicken shawarma and chicken taouk are great for take out. My husband and I typically don’t stay in the restaurant as it’s sparse and we don’t speak the language. Pickup orders work well and the food is yummy! We tend to order pickup food and enjoy it at home. Owners are nice. Great, authentic food.

Never disappointed! Best middle eastern food in the area! I work nearby and make sure I frequent this authentic eatery almost weekly. You won’t get a better bang for your buck anywhere, and you’ll get your fill too. Try a falafel sandwich and some Jerusalem salad if you’re wanting a vegetarian option. And the chicken shawarma sandwich will knock your socks off. The owners and staff are also very friendly and make sure your experience is authentic and genuine.

Went to this place recently for lunch and had the combination meal. All the meat was cooked to perfection and rice was good. Salad was excellent. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal.

I often use Unilocal reviews to find good restaurants and I usually participate and write my honest feedback. I have rated a lot of restaurants with 5 star regardless of their atmosphere when I note that the chef serves an extraordinary food. As usual, I checked the Unilocal and I chose this restaurant with a 4 star rating. I ordered chicken shawarma and lentil soup. It took over 45 minutes to deliver the food and since I was notified about the delay, I did not mind. Unfortunately the food was not tasty. The chicken was not marinated, the rice was too dry, the lentil soup had barely any lentil in it, and salad dressing was very strange, which later I realized that it was diluted tahini. The small plastic fork-spoon combo was the cheapest plastic utensil you could find in the market. I was even charged $ 3 delivery charge which was not disclosed, but I wonder why the delivery charge was included in the total amount of the food which was subject to tax. All of these little details shows the intension of the restaurant. As I see, they have used every opportunity to cut corners of the quality of the food and nickel and dime the customer. Once they raise the quality of the food and the service, I am sure they will generate more business to make up for the difference.
