Terrible. Would not recommend it. The place was nearly empty and it took 20 minutes for sub par appetizers. The dinner came about 5 minutes later and was nothing special. We were in the restaurant for about an hour and a half only 25 minutes of which we spent eating.

Great server, great food, & clean appearance. What else could you want I had the Jones original steak sandwich. Only thing that kept them from more stars were the drink/food prices did not include full«sides» and it cost to upgrade from chips(albeit homemade & delicious) to fries for dinner orders.

While the food was pretty good. The customers on the other hand let their children run wild. Will not, be going back the staff never tried to control the disturbance.

After reading so many poor reviews we were a little hesitant to try this place, but a friend recommended it to us, and she’s never steered us wrong. Admittedly driving into a near empty parking lot and seeing only two other people inside wasn’t encouraging. Three others came in to eat at the bar during our visit. Glad we listened to her, because we enjoyed it. Forget our server’s name, but she was good. Had to sample the shrimp corn chowder. Only 3 – 4 small shrimp to be found, with a mild spicy flavor. Quite enjoyable. And their idea of a cup is more of a bowl size in most other places. For main, had the baked sea scallops. I like that the cracker crumb topping was really lightly done and the scallops cooked to perfection. Some places just put way too much crumb coating on. Abenaki prides itself on only using fresh, not frozen, seafood. Hubby went for the pulled pork sandwich. He didn’t say much while eating, which usually means it was good. I passed on dessert, but DH wanted to try the jumbo brownie sundae. It’s intended for two, so he asked that the brownie part be cut in half and boxed up to snack on later. No whipped or ice cream since our hotel fridge was sans freezer. Even half size, he couldn’t finish it. And he does prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla, but very few restaurants have that. I snuck a little taste of the ice cream. It was more a French vanilla, very smooth and flavorful. Nice big open space, with a stage for live music. Not sure what nights they do that, or if it’s not very frequent during«mud season». Several TVs around the bar area showing different sports games. This restaurant is owned by the same people who own Frank Jones in Barrington, NH. Have to give that a place a try now!

We came after a day of skiing with party of six. It’s one of the few restaurants that will take a reservation. Upon arriving at 6:30 on a Friday night the place was empty, which made us rethink our decision. Not wanting to wait an hour at other restaurants we gave it a try. We came for the Wings, rated Best of NH. The table ordered various dipping sauces and they were ok, but certainly not the Best, or close. My husband had Baked Haddock, which lacked in presentation and taste. Everyone else got sandwiches. My Chicken Cesaer wrap was lots of lettuce and very little chicken or dressing. The whole meal was disappointing and blah. The waitress seemed very busy with the few tables that filled in… it was a long drawn out meal. Would not recommend in the least.

I got the large portion of chicken wings with sweet and spicy sauce. It was more like a BBQ sauce that was really good. Best wings I’ve had in a while. My wife got a chicken taco salad that was decent, but lacking a little on the chicken. Service was a little off so the waitress gave us a $ 5 discount that made up for it. I would definitely go back for the wings.

Stopped in for dinner and had super fresh fish & chips and Caesar salad. The chicken wings were some of the best We’ve had in a long time. Nice to go to a place where the bartender is so knowledgeable and competent.

I see the bad reviews and wonder why? We have been here several times. The service has been friendly and attentive, the food has been cooked perfectly, and the beer is ice cold. We have had burgers, great onion rings, pasta, wings, salad all good. My only complaint is they are often out of items on the menu, so ask waitress right away what they don’t have. Big screen tvs so good place to catch a game. Run by a family who seems to really care if your happy… so?

Over prices for the portions that you get. We were there and there was one bartender and one waiter/waitress. Way under staffed and long wait time for food.

Service was sub-par, took 10 minutes to acknowledge that we were waiting to get a table. Then when we ordered 2 of the same exact thing, they got one of them wrong. 20 Minutes after we were had finished eating they cleared our table but we had to ask for our bill(another 10 minutes later). I will never go back.

Keep on driving by… Went in tonight and there were plenty of open tables but we were told there is a 20 minute wait because they were backed up in the kitchen. Not to mention we waited at the hostess area for 7 minutes without being greeted. Menu is very basic(burgers, BLT, etc…) We left before being seated. Ridiculous to be soooo short staffed that you have open tables and customers are told they can’t sit at them!

Our party of six started out with some onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Both were great. Tuckerman chicken and steak tips were both hits. The manager was friendly and accomadating. I would definitely go back again.

Thank you Danielle and family for bringing your good food from Barrington to the north. We enjoyed your company with our lunch! We wanted something light so having the BLT and chicken Caesar wrap was perfect. I am glad to see that you have brought up some of our other favorites from Frank Jones, too!

My partner and I were about to hike Arethusa Falls so we decided to get a nice lunch before starting out. We go to North Conway once or twice a year and hadn’t noticed the Abenaki Trail Restaurant before so we decided to try out a new place. That was a mistake. It wasn’t very busy with only one table occupied and a few people at the bar. No one greeted us so we sat ourselves. A waitress came over and left a specials menu, drink menu and regular menu. The menu looked good with a nice selection of food, albeit slightly higher than we would normally pay but we thought it must mean great quality. Ha, right. The waitress seemed pretty disinterested. My partner ordered a gin and tonic and she had no idea what gins they had but said yes to the first one he asked about only to come back five minutes later and ask his second choice. She had no idea if they had his second choice and we have to assume they did because she never came back to ask a third choice. I wisely went with a water. Returning to take our orders, she had no clue about the menu and various options. She claimed she was just back to work after a year, and if true, it really showed. How hard is it to write down the veggie of the day so you don’t have to hem and haw and finally go ask? I went with an overpriced bowl of clam chowder and the scallops starter which I had to repeat twice and show her on the menu as she kept asking me what I wanted for a side and I kept saying it was an appetizer so no side. My partner went with a veggie burger and it took way too long to find out that yes he could substitute whatever the veggie of the day was; she thought maybe broccoli or maybe summer squash. Good job there. The food took forever. For a place that wasn’t busy at all at lunch time on a Saturday(which should have been our cue to turn around before ever sitting down), it took an inordinate amount of time. When the food came, it was very disappointing. My overpriced bowl of clam chowder was neither fresh nor home made. It was like buy a can of Campbell’s soup. Same texture, same blandness and same weird after taste. No amount of pepper would help it. Served at the same time was my partner’s veggie burger and soggy vegetable array. It looked like a little bit of everything. Also disconcerting was the fact the waitress reached half her body over us every time she put something down or took it away. My scallops were apparently missing in action with the promise that the chef was browning them and they’d be out shortly. I ended up eating half my partner’s veggie burger that while tasty was definitely store bought and heated up. I don’t think anything was truly freshly prepared. He ate some of my clam chowder but we both found it lacking. After we were finished, the scallops arrived. Gross is a way to describe them. They tried to get fancy and include cheese, one slice of store bought mass produced greenhouse tomato and a balsamic drizzle on a bed of spinach but it didn’t help much. Super hot and incredibly hard to chew. I had one and gave the rest to my partner. We both agreed they were also likely purchased in the frozen aisle at the grocery store. The bill was crazy for the quality of food. What a rip-off. We will definitely never return to the place and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not there the next time we’re in the area.

We decided to grab lunch before heading home from our trip to North Conway and this looked interesting. We had visited this location before when it was a different restaurant. There were 8 of us in total. 4 adults, 3 teenagers and one toddler. It took them awhile to notice we were even there. We ordered our drinks and after we placed our order it took them longer than we would have liked to get our food to us and there was maybe a handful of fries on each plate. My mother had to request another side of fries for everyone to draw from. I ordered the fish sandwich(as did my daughter and my sister) which was actually very good. Definitely fresh and the filet was larger than the bun itself. Crisp and not too oily. My husband got the Pastrami Sandwich on a Pretzel Bun(a special) which he devoured. My other daughter ordered a chicken ceaser wrap which was very large(and very yummy she said). All in all the food was good but the service needed a little help. The décor was dated and looked dusty and there really wasn’t anything that made it stand out. I doubt we’ll be eating here again. We’ll probably try other places nearby next time we visit North Conway. Good, just not worth a second visit, in my opinion.

This was our first experience at the Abenaki grill and we were very pleased. We hadn’t been in since it was the up country years ago and it has totally changed. Clean, friendly service and great burgers. We are locals and will definitely return.
