Been here twice. It’s not a bad place to eat or grab a cocktail. It’s one of those places you go just to say you’ve gone. Not an every friday night type place. Good for an anniversary or valentine’s. I wouldn’t call it fancy but more classic, or vintage. Wait staff was friendly and professional. The dining room and lounge were clean. The food was above average. It’s 30 bucks a plate.

Wow, so disappointed! Went there tonight for our 32 wedding anniversary. We were a party of 4. First problem. They sat us at a table next to a wall. Other side of wall was the kitchen. Sounded like there was a boxing match going on in there. We asked to be moved. OMG, it was like we had asked them to move a mountain. Poor waitress came back to sadly let us know it was not possible. She asked AGAIN at our behest. No dice. We asked for her boss. She came and didn’t let us speak. Just informed us the seating is impossible to change. Again we asked for her boss. Viola’, new table. Problem two. We ordered 3 prime rib dinners with garlic potatoes. There was no Au Jus sauce. The garlic mashed potatoes were plain. No garlic, no salt. And WORST of all… they were cold! Our waitress, Denise asked us how our food was and we didn’t say much. She asked us again later and we mentioned our mashed potatoes were cold upon arrival. She was defensive and said«you didn’t say anything earlier». Whaaaaa! There were no apologies, just defensiveness. Finally, one of the prime ribs was noticeably thinner than the others. Waitress never asked us if we needed more drinks. The biggest problem of the entire event was the ATTITUDE of this place. Beyond unbelievable! We eat out at nice restaurants often so we recognize decent service. I Didnt even want to give them one star because they were completely unapologetic for ANYTHING. And there was more, but I don’t want to beat this dead horse, so I can’t even give them one star. They NEVER uttered one apology for anything.

Wife and I stayed at Stonehurst for one night for our first time this week as we scouted out where in NH we want to retire. The Inn is truly one of those old world places that are so rare these days. We had a room on the 2nd floor(note: no elevators) and it had a small balcony with a mountain view. Alas, at 35 degrees we didn’t loiter out there except to take a glance. The room was small but we’re not really doing anything there but sleeping. The bathroom was small and had a very small pretty useless Jacuzzi tub but the shower worked fine, it’s just a big step into the tub. Despite the wind howling and the temperature dropping the room was warm and comfortable. That’s not always the case in those old places! There are complimentary appetizers in the library before dinner and they weren’t just a cheese and cracker plate. Lobster salad on toast squares, large sweet and sour meatballs and crab with pickled cauliflower crostini. Combine this with a wide range of really good cocktails(a little expensive but VERY generous) and you roll into dinner well prepared. The bar staff was knowledgeable and very enjoyable. Note for the $ 155/night rate that dinner and breakfast are included! We both did the 2 appetizers and salad meals and unoriginally had the same thing. Bacon wrapped scallops and the lobster purse. I had the Caesar and my wife had the wedge. Both salads and the appetizers were great. The table service was very pleasant and the kitchen moved along fine. Breakfast was a full affair as well. I went with the Fly Fishermans special. A fried trout with lemon caper butter sauce, baked beans and fried potatoes. It also comes with 2 eggs of your choice but I’m not an egg fan so passed. Unusual to find that type of breakfast menu item in the US but it was really good. My wife had scrambled eggs and sides and they were really good too. Also excellent was their homemade wheat toast. Thick dense slabs remind of why carbs make us happy(well, and bacon too). We’ll certainly be happy to stay there next time we’re in the Conway area.

Reserved a dog friendly room… hmmm…trust me when I say that the staff are not friendly to humans or dogs. Was there for a wedding on site and arrived Friday evening. Dinner interrupted to tell me my dogs barked and asked me to calm them down. Felt awkward and sort of owned that one… had only gotten them settled, fed and walked for about an hour after a four hour drive. I did think the room had poor sound deafening qualities as I could hear conversations in the adjoining rooms and my dogs do react to sounds since we live in a quiet single family home. Next morning getting coffee I was again told by the staff that my dogs were not welcome to stay in the room and would need to stay in my car… it was 35 degrees and not really an option I would have considered… I was also told that I cost them $ 200 in cancellation. Now I am totally embarrassed at the front desk, my dogs evicted and told I am costing them money by a very rude woman. I ended up leaving and missing the wedding at noon because I would not evict my dogs. No refunds, no apologies and no acknowledgement that I paid for a dog friendly room including the extra fees. I feel bad that the couple I was invited to witness their wedding needed to know(my daughter stayed and conveyed afterwards) how badly the staff there treats guests. To be fair here, had the conversation been polite or less confrontational, I would have considered other local options for day care but that conversation never happened. Do not fall for their deception of «dog» friendly… maybe simply the deception of friendly period!

My husband and I went to Stonehurst Manor for our anniversary dinner based on a recommendation from some friendly ladies at the Chamber of Commerce info booth in North Conway and were not disappointed. First of all, it has great ambiance – it’s down a long, dark driveway set back in the woods, and when you walk in there’s this great grand library/martini lounge where you can wait for a table(we’d made reservations and were seated immediately). The Halloween decorations were still up, a week later, which was kind of fun. We were seated in what looked like the back porch, though all the windows and doors were closed and it was quite cozy on a cool late-autumn evening. They took our drink orders immediately; my husband had a Manhattan, while I had the Avatar martini(blue, yummy and pretty strong). We ordered the lobster purse for an appetizer – though there was just one, it was plenty for two to share, and the cream sauce made for excellent bread dipping. There was a bit of a wait for our meals, but it wasn’t obnoxious, and when they arrived the portions were large and hearty. My husband took the restaurant up on their challenge of offering the«best lamb you’ll ever taste»(according to the menu), and he had to admit: it just might have been. It was full of flavor and incredibly well-cooked and tender – falling off the bone like pork belly. I had to try one of the specials after it was described to me: pumpkin ravioli in a sage cream sauce with cranberries, shallots and braised beef. DELICIOUS. We spent about $ 120 as a couple for a shared app, two meals, two drinks and two glasses of wine – but we felt it was worth the money, both for the huge portions and the culinary creativity and skill. We have spent that much or more in the city for food that was not nearly as delicious. We definitely recommend the Manor as a good choice for a special occasion.

All in all a disappointing experience tonight(October 24) at the Stonehurst Manor. Four of us went for dinner hoping for the best in spite of a couple of recent weak reviews. We were seated quickly, but then the train went off the tracks… We became initially concerned when our waiter was not even familiar with a cocktail ordered off their drink menu(caipirinha), asking us what it was. Our table then waited 1 hour, 10 minutes for our drink order.(We were literally in the process of our departure with a visit to management when they arrived). The drinks were in fact, pretty good so we decided to ride out a bit more of the adventure, taking bets between us as to how long it would take for food to arrive… The appetizers arrived at the 1 hour, 20 minute mark and were, ok(only OK). The evening was beginning to become somewhat laughable and amusing(please note the drinks, once arrived, were pretty ‘good’). The waiter who was serving the various tables in our small secondary dining room, would sigh an exasperated and very audible groan after each visit to a table in our room. We began to have a hard time holding back chuckles as this continued to do on… Dinner arrived at 1hr, 45min. It was also, ok. The best of the four meals was the prime rib. It was very good. The duck, lamb and veal were ok to good. Another round of strong cocktails arrived and we decided to see if we could crack a smile on our waiter’s face. We took this on as a challenge because in the 2 hours, we had yet to see much emotion at all, let alone a smile. After much teasing and cajoling, there was a smile and even a brief laugh. We were all happy to see it because things had been rather morose up to this point. After 2 and one half hours, we had had enough and passed on dessert coffee and departed. In summary, service was ‘rough’, especially at outset and desperately slow throughout. Food and drinks once arrived were ok to good, but not worth the cost. Portions were decent. Cocktails were strong(for this group, a plus!). But, will not plan a repeat.

My mother and I ate here last month based off of a raving recommendation. I hate to say it but this place was TERRIBLE. It seems as if Stonehurst Manor considers it self as an «upscale» sort of restaurant but it far from it. It looks like the interior hasn’t been updated since it first opened, it just has an old vibe not elegant. I ordered a pizza and couldn’t even finish a slice(never thought id ever say that), it was completely burnt on the bottom and didn’t have any flavor. My mom ordered a fish dish with mashed potatoes and I would bet money that her potatoes were mixed up out of a package.

The back room is dated and not cozy. It was very loud. We would have preferred the front room near the fireplace. Food was good. The pasta is all homemade. I’d recommend the truffle fries with the three dips for an app. There’s an abundance of cocktail choices. The room temp was uncomfortably warm. The wait staff was very friendly. The outside is impressive. We wished we had seen it during the day. If you stay there breakfast an dinner is included.

After walking in the front screen door an Eerie feeling swept over us, setting a twilight zone atmosphere. After being seated by a man whom resembled penny wise the clown asked us what we’d like to eat. After ordering pizza he questioned the amount of pizzas we ordered. We asked for it well done but he denied us stating he didn’t want to risk it. He also denied US bread because we ordered too many carbs. Needless to say the pizza tasted like Celestine’s microwave pizza. Not to mention every time pennywise came over to our table he created so much anxiety that we lost our appetites. Upon boxing our left overs he told us we couldn’t have dessert. Overall expensive doughy pizza and anxiety provoking service in a haunting atmosphere.

We are staying here for two nights. The most quaint and romantic setting for our short getaway from the heat in Phoenix. not only is it beautiful, but their package deal when we reserved it included full breakfast AND dinner, and I mean fantastic dinners. Wow. Prime rib, steak, salad, mussels as an appetizer and husband counted 3 dozen. yes, you read right. not 6, not 12, 36 mussels, and not tiny either. couldn’t finish our dinners due to the yummy bread, salads, etc. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. A+++++++++

The Manor looks beautiful from the outside, I can see why people do weddings there. Inside is rather dated though. The food was good, but it was one of those meals that you eat and think wow I could have made this at home and it would have been better.(we got the prime rib and duck) so it’s disappointing when you pay $ 30 a plate. Though the wait staff was wonderful and the wine saved the meal.

Horrible experience here. So promising but so incredibly disappointing. For us it went downhill from the moment we passed the sign. The«Manor» is a stuffy, old, smelly building with no sign of life. There is a rock out front near a fountain, the kind you might take a picture on; it has a sign that says do not climb on rock. Not for families, no children allowed in the pool after 5. They threatened to revoke our pool passes because our 12 year old daughter went in the hot tub and we were the only people in the pool area at the time. «Pool passes», really? They are hand written on paper and there was an old grumpy guy actually checking. The townhouse, nicely appointed but musty and dark, not good for allergies. Not worth the money by any stretch. Grounds are beautiful, nice view but is totally wrecked by terrible customer service of the staff. We felt like we were bothering them when we were first checking in and grabbing our keys. So, if you are over 50 with no kids you should still stay away.

We’ve been going here for years for their Thursday evening two for one dinners. Each year the price has gone up and the quality has declined. I ordered a dish I have had before«the papardelle with beef short ribs» The meat was not short ribs but some old steak that had a horrible taste. My friend’s steak was unedible. I don’t know if it’s new management or new chef but the decline is really horrible because it is a beautiful setting and was a dependable place to eat in the past.

Stonehurst was one of the best places to dine, stay or have your wedding. 2014 was a turning point as we had 3 terribly cooked meals in a row. my experience is one that Unilocal does not allow me to get into the details about how one of my guests was singled out treated very poorly(that is being kind) we waited over an hour for a waiter to even take our order. I will keep checking the reviews to see if 2015 is a better year for them. The food has always been expensive but worth every penny. My love affair with this place is over and the customers do not receive equal treatment.

Food was bland and expensive. Staff wasn’t very friendly and the manager was extremely rude and unprofessional. The place itself is very cozy and plush. They have a nice martini lounge(for quiet conversations), but i wouldn’t come here for dinner…

First, I’ll say this wasn’t my first time here. Also won’t be my last. The atmosphere and food are great. If you’re looking at the place for dinner, DOIT. no hesistation. The lamb, veal, prime rib, and stuffed lobster are wonderful. Pizza is also perfect. John is a wonderful man and server. Michael is a talented bartender with a heart of gold. Lisa in the breakfast crowd is such a lovely person! In fact, all the staff are kind and great. So the two stars aren’t coming off the dining, atmosphere, or staff. They’re coming off for the room(s). Annually, my boyfriend and I stay in Moutain View room 7. It’s our thing. This year, we weren’t able to book that room. And when we extended our stay, we had to move to a different room. SO, Mountain room 6 on the top floor. Positives: Wonderful view, lots of space, very clean. Negatives: If anyone walks on the stairs, you are going to hear it… and LOUDLY. There was a group staying on the same floor, and they just wanted to have a good time(not blaming them at all). But that good time included running up and down the stairs at strange hours and talking till 2AM on the deck(it was freezing so, kudos for them). We had the hardest time sleeping and then got woken up with the skiiers at 6:30(luckily we were skiing too). Another negative is the shower head. Really cheap fix, but that shower head sprays the floor and the walls, but not directly down, so if you’re short it requires some. finess… which is a bit annoying. Mountain Room 5. OHBOY. This is a slightly smaller room, but its updated and really, who needs that much space? The downside? Its right next garbage, and everytime we left our room there wasn’t the best smell. But oh well. The real negative, is it shares a wall with the kitchen. So it was LOUD, really LOUD. Of course, we’re pretty easy going, so we listened to the business of the kitchen for entertainment. but if you like quiet, this isn’t your room. My suggestion? stay in the Mountain room 7 or in the manor. But do, def. visit.

Bf and I came here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We got into town late and the restaurant was closing in 15 minutes. Not wanting to put them out we said we’d try somewhere open later. We were already driving off when the manager ran out, flagged us down and told us they made up a table for us! I was impressed and she insisted so of course we stayed. Our server, Denise rushed us a bit and we ordered quickly. We started with 2 martinis. Mine was good but my bf didn’t care for his. He politely told Denise he didn’t like it and could he have an emerald martini?(I think) instead? She was visibly off put and asked rudely what was wrong with it. I was taken aback! My bf again politely replied it just wasn’t his taste. She said ‘okay well hopefully you like that one because we just have to throw this away’ in a huffy, snide way. My jaw dropped. I was seething. There is absolutely no excuse ever for a server to talk to a guest that way. I am a server and I would never in my right mind behave this way even to a complete asshole. Unacceptable. To make matters worse I heard her complaining a few feet away to the bartender who also was in a huff. At this point I would have rather gone somewhere else or ordered a freaking pizza than deal with this. The WORST service I’ve ever encountered. I didn’t complain as I wanted to salvage the evening but was visibly upset and she never apologized or anything. Any other night I would have asked for the manager but we were celebrating or anniversary and on vacation. I wasn’t going to let her ruin our night. He liked the second martini. The food arrived and was very good. We had a margarita pizza to start, the bf got the espresso crusted steak and I had roast duck. For dessert, crème brûlée and raspberry cheesecake. Manager came by to check on us at the end, very friendly nice lady. I wish the server was a tenth as welcoming. I would never go back here for that reason. I’m giving one star for the manager going above and beyond and the food. My advice is to hire better staff! Bad service can ruin an evening. Especially a fine dining establishment. You are paying for an experience. I expected better.

So happy we stopped in here for Martinis and dinner the other night. The bartender mixed perfectly chilled, refreshing, monstrous sized Sapphire Gimlets for us while we waited for dinner at the Library Lounge. Fast forward to dinner, we were pleasantly surprised that they had the BOGO free entrée special on Thursday nights. I ordered the beet salad to start and went for the lobster beggar’s purse and the trio crab cakes appetizers(2 apps = 1 entrée option) as my entrée. Beet salad — Standard starter with garden fresh greens. Lobster beggars purse — a must try at 5 stars. Airy light crispy phyllo shell with savory lobster filling. Yummm… Crab cakes appetizer — just A-ok at 3 stars. A bit overcooked and a little too much breading but it was sufficient. Overall, great Martinis and awesome deals on certain nights. Only comment I’d add is that this inn seems to cater to a more mature crowd. Not a bad thing but we didn’t realize that coming in and were a bit surprised.

OK– stayed here this past weekend again. Im upgrading to the crème of the crop in my review. Food was amazing as always and I stayed in a room(32A) which was cozy yet bug enough for two to be comfy(How much time do you stay in your room anyway?) We loved going on the off season. Michael’s martinis and drinks were great again– he really is a whiz at making great cocktails .They should give him a HUGE raise– surprised actual;y that some huge hauty taught place hasnt snatched him up yet as he is certainly a hidden gem. We sat by the fire in the great room after dinner each night and breakfast each morning– so relaxing. A great place for an ADULT getaway– no kids– keep them home! I had the tenderloin one night and the salmon special(with sesame crust) the other. And the beet salad was yum-O too. Only downsides I can think of? The heat went on each night(it did get chilly out) and was a bit loud– but it IS an older home so I expected it. Oh and our bed squeaked. lol I wish there were more NON sweet options for breakfast too– everything was a super sweet option if it wasnt eggs– just my two cents. You should check the place out. Going back soon I hope!
