The Studio Wardrobe Department

I just got back from this store and was somewhat dissappointed by the selection. I had read about this on some assorted websites and read that Chloe Sevigny shops here and noted the cheap prices and good vintage clothing. Most of the stuff is tacky and in bad disrepair, and much of this is not vintage– just plain old used clothing. The prices were largely cheap (lots of stuff for $ 2 and $ 3), but the selection was limited. The store is very large and overwhelming, so it took me a while, but it is also dirty inside, in a not so great part of town, and is run by kind of strange men– friendly, but a little sketchy all the same. Many of the sizes were very odd, also. The dressing rooms were waaaaaaay too dark and small, and had no real hooks to hang the clothing on. Of what vintage there was, most was of the 70s and 80s, and even the early 90s. After a lot of digging, I left with a red tennis skirt, a vintage 1940s coral straw and gold clutch, a vintage 1960s dark navy peacoat, a red and black houndstooth Alfred Dunner pencil skirt from the 1980s, and a beige mohair with mother of pearl buttons sweater from the 1940s. The total came to $ 43– cheap, but I don’t know if I would go back that much. Stop by if you are in the area with nothing else to do, but don’t be prepared to find anything great– but great if you do!
