I was really hoping for consistency and instead got a dissapointing experience the second time around. We had ordered some egg dishes. Two were over easy and the other dish was an omelette. All the eggs were over cooked. The omelette was thin and rubbery on the outside. The vegetables inside were a bit mushy. The other two dishes each had over easy eggs which had overcooked centers and brown skins on the white parts. We did inform our waitress of our dissatisfaction and she seemed confused because according to her no one else had ever complained. She demanded a reason why we didn’t care for the French toast. She cleared the table and came back with the bill. I was disappointed even more when I noticed she never took my husband’s dish off the receipt. She did, however, throw a cookie on the table for our inconvenience. Was not happy about that. I guess that just solidified our thoughts of not returning or recommending yhis place to our family and friends. There are many other breakfast choice restaurants in the area. We will seek out those places next time we are in Northampton.

Went to sylvesters yesterday for breakfast with my family and the food was not good. I ordered over easy eggs and they were over medium to hard, the toast was cold, the home fries burnt and the banana bread french toast was mushy. I had to get up and get a refill on my coffee myself. My wife and daughter’s food was over cooked and cold. I know what an oxymoron. We won’t be back.

Highly overrated. Service was slow, didn’t say anything about the bloody Mary’s being made with Saki when ordering, ran out of champagne on a Sunday, and I observed a hostess drop the rag they use to clean the tables onto the floor, wipe the carpeted floor clean of all food and dirt from previous customers, then immediately wipe the table coram with it. Gross. No thank you. Food was meh… Never again.

Excellent brunch with healthful and decadent offerings. Husband loved his monte cristo with great local maple syrup. I devoured my seared salmon salad special — which sold out by 1:30pm disappointing others. Sorry, folks, it was huge and fantastic.(I had to make my own dressing, since I’m allergic to garlic which is in virtually all dressings, and staff was glad to bring lemons, mustard, oil, vinegar, and volunteered a tiny vessel with spout for easy mixing and pouring — very helpful. Just oil and vinegar was too bland for such a great, main-course salad.) No wait when we went at 12:30p on week day. Had closet space for our luggage since we were heading over to Amtrak station across the street just afterwards.(Went to coffee/take out side and got some baked goods to go for the train. Excellent pecan cinnamon roll, not so sure we loved the apple struedel which tasted more of shortening than butter but crust was flaky and filling cinnamon-y.) You can buy their hearty Sylvester mugs and tshirts. A local had recommended, and it was spot-on perfect — bright, comfortable, pleasant, delicious.

I have been to Sylvester’s multiple times and never had a bad meal. I also have never had bad service. It is definitely a 5 star candidate for me, but I will go with a 4 star rating … and that is a super solid 4 /4+. Sylvester’s is one of the two best breakfast places in Northampton. It’s probably been one of the best breakfast places in Noho for decades. The eggs benedict are good, other egg specials good, pancakes are good, the omelettes are good, the sandwiches are good. Spot a trend? The coffee however for me is average in the restaurant. The baked goods up front are great if you want to do a grab and go. Maybe the only downside(but one that comes with success) is that there is often a wait for the restaurant. Waiting 15 to 45 minutes is normal at more peak times. If they tell you the wait is an hour I might walk, but I am also not sure it really would be an hour. The turnover is pretty quick. Go in off of peak if you don’t want to wait or just plan on waiting an average of 30 minutes at peak times. Good things come to those who wait! Anyway, this place is an institution. It’s easy to see why. It is reliably very good.

Great Breakfast! Good for Mimosa’s if you’re into that. It’s where Sylvester Graham invented the Graham cracker, which sounds like it really would have more in common with Ezekiel Bread than Graham crackers of today. I like getting a bowl of fruit, some steel cut oats, or your typical Eggs, Bacon & French Toast American breakfast. All done well. Also should be considered: The Green Bean(people, whole menu, tight quarters, healthy), Jakes(eggs benedict, healthy, good stuff), Esselon(great coffee, ambiance, healthy, omelettes, awesome outdoor seating, wicked fluffy pancackes!), & to a lesser extent Stables in Hadley. All good places for a decent breakfast.

We went in for a business lunch, one of the orders was a chopped salad. We asked to have the oil and vinegar tossed into the salad for us and we were told that they would only serve it to us on the side. Due to our business attire and the potential mess it would have made at the table we requested that kitchen mix in the dressing and we were told that the kitchen refused to accommodate the request. The waitstaff could have tossed in the oil and vinegar for us but they weren’t thinking on their feet. Probably won’t return there based on their lack of customer service, even Burger King will prepare your food«your way»

What disappointment tastes like. The omlette has no fluff at all. It’s a thin, greasy membrane surrounding potentially tasty ingredients of corned beef hash and onions, but the slimy appearance made it best suited for presentation at a haunted house. Consistency is a special strength of Sylester’s as all four pieces of toast were burned and covered in the aforementioned ectoplasm. The service is efficient and sweet, but the signs on the wall indicating awards that the prices indicate are well deserved amount to a bait and switch. This is a greasy spoon with prices double what they should be.

This will forever be my favorite breakfast spot! It has really good food and even better coffee/lattes! Be prepared to wait for a little while but you can go to the coffee bar and get latte before your table is ready! This place is super cute and has a really pleasing menu! The French toast is my personal favorite! The eggs Benedict is a close second though!

Stopped in for brunch today, and the service and food was great like always. Sister got one of the special omelette and I got the Cobb salad, both were really well done. A good place to stop in for breakfast and /or lunch in Northampton.

I’ve been coming to Sylvesters for years so this is long over due. Sylvesters offers one if the best breakfasts in western Mass, amazing service, great food and a fun atmosphere. It’s usually packed so waiting 15 – 45 mins for a table is normal and well worth it, we were told an hour yesterday but we were seated after about 35 mins. I had the Irish Benedict which replaces the standard ham with corned beef hash, it was delicious. It’s a great spot for sandwiches and lunch also but I could eat breakfast any time of the day so that’s what I usually eat here. Awesome baked good selection if you want to grab something quick to go also.

Used to be our«go to» breakfast place until we got snubbed by the hostess. She ignored our presence while we were standing in line waiting for a table and actually skipped over us. We’ll never go back again.

I come here for brunch every time I visit Northampton. I love their various healthy options and commitment to using products from local farms! Really great food overall. Personal recommendations: Eggs Benedicts! These are not to be missed. The classic, California, and Sly’s Style Benedicts are all perfect for a nice filling brunch. Clam Chowder: Probably the best I’ve had in New England. Hot Chocolate: Comes in a huge mug with a mountain of whipped cream on top. Chocolatey, cinnamon-y goodness. YUM

WAY overrated. Sylvester’s seems to be the rave in Northampton but I’ve been there several times on others’ requests and it’s always crowded, loud, and with a huge line; the food is honestly just average American; there aren’t any vegan options; the menu isn’t interesting or creative at all for all its hype. Jake’s is a better place with more options and better quality food.

One of the best club sandwiches I’ve ever had. Coffee was a little burnt however. French fries would have been nice also, but they only had chips. Will deff be back though.

PROS: Trivia cards on tables. Wide assortment of drinks. Eggs cooked up every which way. CONS: Almost no vegan options. Pricey…c’mon it’s breakfast. Service made us feel very rushed.

Mmm mmm good! I had a super delicious omelet. The service was friendly and timely. I would definitely return here if in the area. My friend ordered pancakes and I have to say they serve a high quality syrup, which results in them being awfully skimpy. He had to keep asking for syrup refills lol! Everything was delicious. Worth the trip.

I haven’t been to Sylvester’s in years but not much has changed. Friendly, efficient service of good, hearty food. Vermonter latte was a nice start. Filling up a huge mug, it lasted the whole meal. I went with the Winter Harvest omelet which was loaded with butternut squash, caramelized onions, apples, bacon & cheddar. Nice blending of flavors. My fellow diners went with pancakes(blueberry & chocolate chip). They are still the same size… enormous! Served up with real maple syrup. Enough for breakfast & a snack later. When in the Northampton area, Sylvester’s is definitely worth a try. They have some gluten free options & will work with their menu to help their customers.

Breakfast is my favorite type of meal and I am a bit picky when it comes to telling someone if I enjoyed my breakfast or not. This place has a good reputation from what I have heard and I was up for another breakfast meal! When we arrived around 11am, it was packed with people. We put our name in and they told us the wait was about 40 minutes. We did give them our name but once we stepped outside we called another place to see how long the wait was. It was pretty much the same so we decided to walk around the little shops. After walking around for about 20 – 25 minutes we went back to see how long the wait was. The hostess said that there were 3 tables ahead of us. It wasn’t long after that when they call our name. Once we were seating the waitress greeted us. She did not have much of a personality and seemed that she was not happy to be there. We looked at the menu and decided to share like we usually do. I ordered the Southwestern Omelet which contained beans, peppers, onions and was topped with salsa and sour cream. Everything was great minus the waitress.
