I’m old and don’t like change. I especially hate it when wonderful things come to a bad end. When Captain’s sold to a new owner I had mixed emotions. I got a charge out of the gruff owner and loved the staff but understood it was time for him to retire. I was excited to see how the new owner would add his touches. Sadly, things didn’t work out for him and it closed. New owners have purchased the property and it is now a Mexican restaurant. I haven’t checked it out yet because I’m still too busy mourning the loss of such a cozy, warm neighborhood gathering place. I met one of the most wonderful people in my life at Captain’s Quarters… another reason why it is so hard for me to say goodbye. Even though Captain’s is now just a lovely memory for many of us locals I chose to give it 5 stars out of respect and loyalty to the original owner and his family who for decades gave us such a great place to gather.

I drove by this location last evening and there was a big«available» sign in the window. Too bad to see a long time business go under…

I can’t give a rating because I’ve never eaten here. But this business appears to be closed. It has been dark for several weeks & there is a hastily scrawled, hand written sign in the window that says«On Vacation». When you call, a recorded message tells you they’re closed for rebranding and remodeling.

Food was really good. We had the filet and prime rib and lobster tail. Filet was cooked perfect and much better than expected. So was the prime rib. We also did the crab cake which was just ok and the saganaki that was good. It has a fun ship wreck ambiance and we would definitely go back.

Food is delicious. We had Blue Point Oysters. They were fresh and huge. My daughter had the cheeseburger sliders. My other half and I had Teriyaki Salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. All enjoyed our food. Don’t be deceived by the entrance, this place is a gem!

6 stars for that fried calamari! Lightly battered, crisp squid and the perfect chunky marinara. But it was downhill from there. I think the cod fish and chips would have have been great with a dark beer. The battered shrimp was not worth the effort; why was the zucchini not thinly sliced, battered, and fried? Monica the server was adorable, although you can hear everything when she’s talking at the bar. She called me weird a number of times. Bahaha. I could clearly hear everything. Probably because it was quiet — I like to eat dinner at 5pm old people time. Also, lost a star because overachieving fancy pants new owner Favi spoke to the tables AROUND us, but not us. Because… we’re not white? Because… we’re not old? Interesting.

Decided to give this place a go after passing on it for almost four years, the deal clincher was a $ 20 for $ 40 Unilocal deal. Thx Unilocal. The location is in a strip mall so that can put some people off. It is also smaller than it looks inside. There is a separate bar area from the dining room and the main eating area really is not that large so if you have to wait for a table, you are either in the bar, or awkwardly standing in the hall. I was boring and opted for a cheeseburger which I recall as being average and washed it down with and Old Style. Also heads up — older folks like eating here so don’t be surprised if you find yourself one of the younger ones in the room. The service was decent and so was the food.

Weird! Made an open table reservation for 1230, called to ask if dinner menu is offered at lunch time, was told that they open at 1pm, I said I have a reservation at 1230, then he said, ok they are open at 1230. Weird! We cancelled our reservation n ate leftovers at home.

As other reviewers pointed out, the atmosphere in this restaurant is much more homey than you’d expect from looking at the storefront(which makes it look like a bar). It was our first time there, and the new owner stopped by our table to chat and welcome us. The décor looked very dated(I would compare it to a 1980s Wisconsin supper club) but the owner said he had plans to revamp it. We had three seafood dishes and all of them were very good. The blackened catfish was among the best I’ve ever had. The only off note was the mashed potato side, which most likely came from a box. They had a great draft beer selection, which included many local beers, including two from Glenview!

Fresh delicious food! The service was prompt and polite. Even the bread before the meal was good! Warm, soft, and fresh. Entrees come with soup or salad; my husband had clam chowder which was made from scratch and I had salad which included cucumber, bell pepper, and tomatoes on fresh mixed greeds. No complaints! The new owner went to each table to ask if the food and service was superb and it was! My husband had the Shrimp de’Joure and I had the salmon teriyaki and we cleaned our plates. Wonderful!

OMG new managment and WOW updated food! They kept my favorite saganaki in the entire world — they are keeping MUCH of the old school charm from the last 30 plus years BUT they are updating the interior In a way to keep the old things but making old more modern if it makes sense. The food is very well priced. This is a foodies comfort food place. Fillets at $ 28 and petite fillets at $ 17 but you have to try their lobster bisque. The rainbow trout is phenomenal.

Very poor service. Restaurant is right out of the 1970’s but food was very good. I had the shrimp and scallops kabob and it was cooked to perfection. Not sure I would return.

Stopped here for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was quick and friendly. The food takes a little extra time, but that is because everything is made fresh. That alone makes it worth the wait. Portions are generous and hot right from the oven(not the microwave). I will be back and I am looking forward to trying the steaks! Note: we did not see or use the bar. This is for the restaurant only.

A nice unique looking fish and steak place. Nothing too special on outside of this small place in a strip mall. The inside has a little diner and bar area. The owner was talking about how his place has been at this location for forty years. he must be doing something right. The food was OK nothing special and not too far off from Long John Silvers. This place is basically long John Silvers meets Ponderosa. being that there are hardly anymore of these places in the Chicago area then this place is pretty special.

Food so-so. Atmosphere is definitely my parents generation and older, not mine. Waitress was hiding somewhere most of the time and seemed to be in not the best mood. Didn’t love it, can’t say I hate it. but I most likely won’t be back. Just not my kind of place.

I was skeptical, but then I was impressed. This is the kind of place that exists all over America — family institution that clearly hasn’t been updated in years from a décor standpoint, but serves great food at reasonable prices. I tried the Filet Kabob and was impressed. Would absolutely come back.

Yet another place that my parents love, but in more recent days. I don’t know what prompted them to start coming here but I joined them for a couple occasions and it wasn’t too bad! I’ve only had the seafood here, not the giant steaks or anything like that — but the food is delicious(especially the Mediterranean Tilapia with the sauce they put on top)! My dad was given the biggest steak I’ve ever seen(he couldn’t finish it and he always finishes his steaks). Each time I come here, everyone who is dining loves their food. While it’s a bit pricey, it’s still cheaper than chain steakhouses & seafood restaurants(Outback, etc.) and much cozier & personal. The place is decorated with fish and netting and other sea-related décor. The lights are dim(not too low, though) which add to a cozy feel. The owner of the restaurant comes out to socialize with the patrons and the waiter we usually have is very conversational and friendly. You feel very welcome and important here. Oh, I forgot to mention: there is also a bar at the front of the restaurant where you can get some drinks while waiting for a table and watch the game. For such a hole in the wall place in a tiny strip mall that you’d probably miss if you were driving by, it’s really a great place to go!

Like people say, it looks like a dive from the outside but it’s quite homey once you walk in. Actually, my initial reaction walking in was, «wow… i’m glad i was prepared for how this place looks…» but you warm up to it. There wasn’t a lot of people there when we went. In fact, there was probably only two people in there when we walked in. They’re so nice there. Sometimes a jolly older man walks around and jokes around with you. He’s really kind and very affectionate. My friend and I chose to have our monthly dinner there so we sat around talking. They didn’t seem to mind… and filled our water glasses plenty of times! It grows on you. I will go back again!
