This place used to be good now they’re skimping out on the chicken. My bf always gets double meat and his portions looked like what a regular meat use to look like. I actually finished my meal and I’m a pretty small girl.

Been seeing this place for awhile on my way to the gym. Finally out of the blue decided to venture and try a new spot. The place is pretty spacious that being I was the only patron at that time. Prices here are reasonable and inexpensive. As for the food, nothing grand. Cannot say the sushi here is excellent but okay. Everything was served in Styrofoam containers. This may be the shortest review I’ve written, there wasn’t much excitement other then feeding my belly, overall your typical fast food japanese restaurant.

I’ve been here when it first opened. I’m surprised they are still here. I don’t find it quite tempting to eat at a simple 1 – 2 steps easy making meal Japanese place that states they serve no MSG. I figured it was for the Chinese restaurants giving those MSG warnings. The staff are cool. Friendly, clean looking. Nice thing about the place is that they cooked the food sort of in front of you through a glass wall, made to order. Prices are reasonable. Again I’m surprised it’s still here. It does not seem to get busy especially on a busy street. Very clean inside. It would be badassssh if they served Yokisoba Noodles(Japanese fried noodles, like Chinese chow-mien)! But so far it’s bleh.

Seriously, why am I obsessed with this place? I love it here. As far as quick food, this is great. I go for the beef + noodles, the dumplings, and spicy tuna rolls. I obviously can’t eat it all in one sitting, but it is soooooo good! I can get all 3 of those things for about $ 15(a lot of food). I just eat the left overs at work the next day. Not bad sushi either, considering. I’d recommend this for a quick eat.

During Grand opening my girl and I ate their beef teriyaki kinda tasted like hungry ninja the vegtables and seasoning was so similar. They gave us a pretty okay amount of beef and rice, the brown rice was really good. but if you need more meat u can always double it… I guess long story short the first time we ate here everything were alright at first but the second time nothing was good at all the beef was too hard and thick pieces, the vegetables were over cooked, and california roll was missing cucumber!!! I loved the service tho very nice people but, I think this would be the last time we’ll eat here again

Despite all the negative reviews, I don’t have any problems with the place. Granted, I have only ever eaten teriyaki chicken, which is not exactly hard to mess up. The teriyaki is pretty cheap and tastes decent.

I guess there’s a first time and a last time for everything. In the case of Sarku Japan, both events will occur simultaneously. I get it; it’s fast food sushi rolls. But I’ve eaten far superior fast food rolls from, oh, let’s go with Ralphs. It’s not just that the salmon is smoked and it’s not mentioned. It’s that it’s served at all. It was horrible. Oh, and I almost forgot about this: the whole place is sticky. As if they cleaned the place with lemonade. I can’t write to the terriyaki that they served, and it seemed upon conclusion of our own meal, that most were in there for that. But man oh man. Don’t go for the rolls. Better yet, don’t go.

Middle of the road! I got a bento box(not the deluxe one) and an avocado and cucumber roll. The first things I noticed is the décor, which is pretty nice for a fast food place like this(looks like a chain, might be a chain). The price was a bit on the high side for what you get and the wait for getting your order was a bit on the high side as well. The bento box was interesting. The salad was not chopped very small to the point of being awkward and they served it with thousand island dressing, not the normal Japanese interpretation of thousand island. The rice was tasty and standard. The half sushi roll was small, which was expected for the bargain rolls, and tasty for what it was. The avocado and cucumber roll was the same. Honestly, if you’re looking for sushi, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for an okay meal and something you haven’t been to before, come in with the right expectations and you won’t be disappointed. And this place is a hell of a lot better than the next-door Denny’s would be. The other stuff they make is more wok-style with noodles or rice and those looked pretty tasty, I think if I’m int he area again I’ll be getting that(and that means I do want to try the place again!). P. S. I just saw a picture of some handrolls… that looks awesome, why didn’t I see that on the menu?! I want those now.

This is an alright place for fast Japanese food. I ordered the Bento Box w/chicken and the Seaweed Salad. The seaweed salad wasn’t worth the price… it was pre-packaged. The price isn’t too bad for the bento box. It is definitely enough to get full off of. My meal came with chicken teriyaki on top of a huge bed of noodles, a small salad, and 4 pieces of California Roll. The salad dressing came in a small packet, so they don’t prepare it there. The rice from the California roll tasted dry. The chicken and noodles were the best(but also most unhealthy) part of the dish. If I’m in the area and need cheap food, it’s not a bad place to go to. However, I would never make plans to go back.

Horrible… Never going here again. 1. The casheir repeats your order back to you, so I know he understands what I am saying, but he tried to overcharge me. When I pointed it out, he pretended not to understand what I was saying. 2. When the order was ready, they just put your to go box on a dirty(sticky soy sauce) countertop and call your number. I had to ask for a bag, fork, napkin, sauce, and oh by the way«where is my shrimp tempura» that they almost forgot to give me? They gave it to me after I reminded them, but it was cold. Terrible service, dirty establishment… disgusting!

Honestly, I came in because I saw the deal offered in the window of a chicken teriyaki bowl for a cheap price if I got soda with it… still not worth it. There are some expectations people have when they want to eat Japanese food and even though it is more of fast food place, while aesthetically pleasing the food was not at all worth it. I mean they served tempura with out the dipping sauce and only had 1000 island dressing. Tempura dipping sauce is only sugar and soy sauce and they didnt have that! If you do go never get the miso soup, there is no flavor, not worth even a $ 1.Where I am judging this from is I take Panda Express as an average-meh on the asian food chart and judge asian fast food around that, for Sarku, definitely didnt have the taste nor the portion worth for myself to go again or rate it even on the average comparison.

I used to really like this place when under the old management. Since new management took over, the place is horrible! Of my last 5 visits, only 2 were successful in getting what I ordered. Issues: Not being able to order sushi because rice wasn’t made(shouldn’t this be ready when the restaurant opens?) Receiving the wrong sushi rolls Getting there 45 minutes before closing and being told they aren’t making more of an item Waiting 20+ minutes before being told they can’t prepare what was ordered The staff is now incredibly disorganized. When I asked questions today about the issues, I was told, «yes, yes.» I had to say, literally, «This is a question I would like an answer to. How can I contact the new management?» before someone would answer. This place is such a disappointment.

Update 2÷22÷12 Like a cheap horror movie this place has been reanimated and is open again. Never saw that comin’! Original review 1÷10÷12 When the windows are papered over and the«Closed for repairs» sign is dated 10 days ago… I think they’re lost and gone forever. Dreadful sorry Clementine.

I’ve been here several times since it opened. I love CHICKENTERIYAKI! It’s tender, delicious and full of flavor. I wonder how they marinade it? It reminds me of chicken tocino from my hometown. It comes with either noodles, brown rice or vegetables. I always go for noodles… I like the noodles because it tastes like yakisoba. with a bit sweetness in it. I tried beef teriyaki, I’d say. just stick with chicken teriyaki. Oh! the combo is best with sauteed shrimp add-on! Yummy! The price is very, very affordable especially with coupons. The staff are very nice! If there are not too many people, they will serve your order. You have to wait at least 7 minutes to get your order, but it’s alright, at least you’re assured that food is freshly cooked.

Sarku Japan restaurant is a fast food Japanese chain restaurant. With this in mind, the food won’t disappoint you. They offer Bento box which include a California Roll, brown or white rice, heavy iceburg lettuce salad with a dressing, chicken or beef or TOFU or shrimp for less than $ 9 bucks. Alot of food for a good price. Also, the sushi isn’t too bad. Don’t get me wrong its not spectacular but it’ll do the trick if your in the hankering for some quick and affordable sushi. For example, the spicy tuna roll is less than $ 5. What I do like about Sarku Japan is they offer a few Vegetarian selections. Such as their Tofu dish which is served on your choice of brown or white rice drizzled with a soy base sauce which is pretty good. Overall, I will continue to visit Sarku Japan when I need a quick sushi fix to go. Quick Tip: They offer Cal State Univ. Northridge Students 10% with school ID

Hi Unilocal friends. It has been a while. I feel bad coming to you with a one star review after so long. First, the staff was super friendly. second, the food was terrible. I ordered the beef teriyaki. The amount of meat was disappointingly small, yet cut in to large pieces. These large pieces are hard to cut with a plastic fork. This I could have lived with if the meat was anywhere near delicious. sadly friends, this was not. I could taste some pepper, but not even a hint of teriyaki. It also came with mushrooms. Half of them were still raw. for the price, there are 15 other mediocre Chinese/teriyaki places I could go to that are better than this.

Was coming back from our trip to Costco and saw this place was open. Place was nice and clean inside. Food is cooked right in front of you. I had the deluxe bento box with chicken teriyaki. Chicken teriyaki was quite tasty. Had a choice of noodles or rice. I got the brown rice, which was nice to have as one of my choices. My husband got the noodles, which looks more like yakisoba. The salad in the bento box is served with dressing on side with really small dressing packets(either thousand island or Blu cheese). I wish they had more salad dressing choices. The California roll was good but the preparation was a little sloppy. I didn’t care for the shrimp tempura. It was kind of strange the tempura shrimp you got was kind of triangle shaped. It looks like the tempura was pre-battered ahead of time and cooked on site. Shrimp tempura just didn’t taste that great. The other vegetable tempura was ok. It was nice that the tempura batter had a light batter. Also it was good that the tempura was not overly oily like you get at some restaurants. I wished they had tempura sauce to dip in like you get at Japanese restaurants. We also got the dumplings. In the picture, it looks like it was pan fried. When we got our order, the dumplings were deep fried. The dumplings were very tasty. I wished they had a sauce to dip the dumplings in like you get at other Japanese restaurants. We’ll be back again as this place is a nice change and it is cheaper to eat here than a regular Japanese restaurant. Plus they gave us coupons to use for the next time.
