Good place to buy Indian groceries and spices. But caution on: 1. Veggies need to be consumed within 2 – 3 days of purchase 2. Fruits are usually old better off buying at next door shoprite 3. Prices for things other than Indian spices and veggies are more than regular grocery store 4. Don’t buy milk it’s usually near expiry

Yes, this store has everything you need for an authentic Indian dish. It’s big, organized, and well-stocked. I came for briyani ingredients, and the spices they have are good. They also have a large variety of rice. I kept browsing, and I found pre-made appetizers like samosas. Mango Lassis were in the fridge… major points! This store and the Oriental Market on New Canaan Ave. are lifesavers to us Asians.

Patel Brothers is a welcome addition to shopping for South Asian foods in Fairfield County. In addition to reasonably priced spices, they have an excellent selection of legumes and rice. The produce here is also by and large cheaper than the grocery chains – like Viva Grande in New Rochelle; although it’s not as plentiful, I find it has a slightly longer life. Shopping here is a lot more convenient than driving down to Jackson Heights, although I prefer the products in Queens.

I’m not Indian — let’s get that out of the way. But I love Indian food. I was really happy to see a Patel Bros market down the road from where I live and decided to go in to explore. The first thing that hits you — if you are not used to it — is the fragrance smell of spices! INHALE deeply and step right in. Admittedly I don’t know 75% of the stuff in the store and I am not the greatest of cooks. I was looking for something simple to make for myself for the occasional weeknight dinner. The section of the store that I gravitated towards was all the wonderful selections of pre-packaged curry. I mean we are talking about a wall of it. I stood there transfixed by it all. Eventually I grabbed three packages thinking I cannot mess up microwaving curry or boiling a package of curry. As I explored the store more, I grabbed a bag of spicy fried chick peas. In general, the store was clean, organized, and well-lit. People are very friendly. I’ll definitely be a returning customer.

5 Star review w/o a doubt. I don’t want to hype this spot up too much, but it is the place to go for affordable Indian groceries and more. I’m broke as a joke right now, so I’ll be dining in and cooking on the cheap. Why drop major coin at Coromandel when you can just make the meals yourself for pennies on the dollar? I mean, it can’t be *that* hard to cook Indian entrees, right? Are you with me? Off the bat, we picked up a giant bag of Basmati rice, plenty of seasonings, frozen paneer cubes that are delicious. And of course, samosas. Don’t forget, they sell mango lassis for like 2 bucks. The Indian restaurants will just double the price on those bad boys. I even got some Indian mango ice cream or sherbet… I don’t know, we haven’t tried it yet. I’ll bet it’s good. EDIT: It’s REALLY good. Damn. The bottom line is the prices here are wonderful, they even have some typical groceries you’d find at much cheaper prices. Wait…someone said they have those Mexican sugar sodas? I’m going back, stat!

Patel Brothers — Without a doubt is a life saver for all Indian community. A chain store with exhaustive options for indian spices to fresh vegetables. And the good part is that its affordable and often feels like you are in your home country. I am here alteast once in two months and kind of do a wholesale shopping of all required stuff.

Like the A Dong of Indian food. That’s a good thing — it’s an Indian grocery superstore. We stopped into Patel Brothers while visiting my hometown for the holidays(whatup Norwalk). As my boyfriend makes a mean curry, he was thrilled to pick up some hard-to-find ingredients. After perusing the store, which was much larger than expected, we left with some fresh curry leaves, white turmeric(which we later pickled) and some exciting produce(Thai eggplant, jackfruit, bitter melon) that’s much harder to find up in our neck of the woods. I’m heading back to Norwalk this weekend and I’m excited to stop in and stock up!

I am originally from India. Most people I meet tell me that they LOVE Indian food but are too afraid to try cooking it at home. Indian curries and all the spices that go into them can beoverwhelming. It is important to know that Indian cuisine is a delicious combination of simple as well as complex dishes. Everyday dishes like lentil soups(typically eaten with rice or whole wheat flat bread), or stir fry vegetables need just a handful of ingredients to prepare. On the other hand, fancy meat curry recipes could call for up to 10 – 15 ingredients to get the job done. Add to that the complexity of spices with unfamiliar names… and it is easy to scare off the most determined of home cooks. So, where do you start? Where do you go for all the spices that the recipe calls for? Happily, the answer lies in a wonderful Indian grocery store in Norwalk called Patel Brothers. A bright, spacious, well organizedgrocery store with isleafter isle of well markedshelves bursting with all kinds of ingredients. You name it and they have it! And if they don’t — chances are that they can get it for you. Every time I walk in there, I feel like a kid in a candy store. All the food items bring back happy memories of my childhood in India and I find myself fighting the urge to buy one of everything.

I am so happy they opened up here! I can choose from many varieties of Basmati rice and they even have my hard to find Persian dried limes — I don’t even know if that’s used in Indian cooking. Does anyone out there know? I also found Coca Cola in glass bottles from Mexico that are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. Yum!
