Had a very mediocre brunch, which was especially disappointing considering I’ve been looking forward to Sugar & Olives for months. No espresso(seriously?), very uninspiring sweet potato and duck hash, and the whole experience was far more expensive than it needed to be. I’m usually very forgiving of service, but the phone manner and in person attitude of the staff was oddly cold, and it took AGES to get the bill. I probably won’t be back.

Just spent $ 20 on a burger. A very tiny burger on a desert plate. There were two other patrons in this place besides my friend and me. We had to wait for more than an hour and a half to be served the burgers that we ordered. Meanwhile, I watched the cook not doing anything. While the lamb burger was tasty, it was certainly not spectacular and tasted like something I could make at home. As we put $ 50.00 down for 2 burgers served on saucer plates(with water) and dreadful service, I felt like we had been had. Cute space and idea. Dreadful execution.

This is a fabulous restaurant the food there is very unique and you will probably find it hard to choose just one thing to eat. Some of the plates are bigger then you would expect but otherwise the portions are good. It’s not fancy and it is different from any other restaurant I’ve been to before !

Definitely a 5 star on the taste and quality of the food, and also for the casual rustic chic ambiance. But on both occasions — once for lunch and once for dinner — the interaction with the owner was so bizarre, awkward and off-putting that we will never return. Would rather not elaborate and both times were unsolicited encounters. I hope she treats staff better than her customers. Or maybe she should somehow treat customers as well as her staff!!! PS And just super-silly overpriced

This place is awesome! It’s a little gem that’s pretty hidden away on a side street. It’s more of an event space that also has food, the place looks huge and I think it would be perfect for a medium sized party. I went for brunch with my boyfriend. We split the chocolate French toast, a donut, and a scone. All three were delicious! You could tell it was freshly made and it was very filling. Looking at the other dishes coming out, you could tell the rest of the menu was also good. The kitchen is open so you can actually watch the chef make the food. They also hold cooking classes, which sounds pretty interesting.

5 New Yorkers come to CT for a wedding and are wowed by their food and service here. The moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile as we took in the sleek and airy interior. Loved the open kitchen and seeing our food prepared by the chef/artist. The staff was so attentive and got our orders quickly, making a great suggestion for the pork belly omelette for the more hungry members. Coffee was strong, food flavorful and unique, ambience warm and welcoming, staff friendly. Donut puffs were fantastic and fresh, everyone loved their meals and had full bellies. I think the prices are fair, certainly not diner prices, but it’s not diner food! Throughly enjoyed our morning there. Highly suggest checking them out.

I wish I’d come here sooner. Ever since we moved to Fairfield County from Manhattan a few years ago, I’ve been searching for a great breakfast place. The kind of place with real maple syrup and a menu that’s interesting while still serving up the basics. The food, atmosphere and service here are all fantastic. We had the skillet pancake(lemon curd is a must), the crêpe(basically a wonderful delicate omelette with delicious fillings), and the eggs with pork hash. Oh and the doughnuts were to die for. I’m sitting here waiting for my check and couldn’t wait to write a review, since I think I was deterred by mixed reviews I read on here previously and I want to make sure others give it a shot. Only 2 recommendations for the restaurant to be even better. The first is I wish they opened earlier on weekends. I know so many parents with young kids looking for a great breakfast as a way to fill the morning and this spot would be perfect. I think Valencia is stealing that crowd at the moment but some variety for the 8 or 9 am time spot would be a welcome addition to the area. The second, and this sounds silly but I really mean it, is that the lemon curd should be included with the pancake and not an add-on for a little extra money. It makes the meal. I’m guessing maybe it was once included but nobody was eating it so they were wasting it; perhaps it could be baked into the pancake or spread on top by default. It’s that good. Anyway, come eat here for breakfast. It’s wonderful and I will definitely be back.

First time here and really enjoyed it. This is the kind of place that goes that extra length to set their food apart from typical restaurant fare. I had a great brunch. Got the shirred eggs and skillet pancake. Both were really satisfying and our server was accommodating. Coffee was great too. Came in ready to relax so I didn’t mind having a long morning brunch and hanging out — maybe not so great for impatient people. Interior itself has a cool Brooklyn feel to it. Unique menu worth trying — speaking only from my experience with the brunch menu.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had . Lack of professionals running the restaurant from the moment we made our reservations to the owner with her lack of interest in customer service Quite disappointed

pssst… Sugar & Olive… you’re located in Norwalk… on some awkward residential side street… not downtown Manhattan, or even Brooklyn… and that«jam burger» for $ 18…it’s actually just a measly slider… on a mini roll to try and make it look bigger than the 3 bites it really is… and one last tip… you should try and pay attention to your customers… they’re kind of important to your business of mini portions for excessive prices… (Not worth it. Interior is nice and open though. Service, is nonexistent. $ 18 slider with hard potatoes served on a tiny saucer… because it can easily fit. Turrible location. Many better options.)

We sat at the bar and were bantering enjoyably with the cook(and owner?) for a large part of the meal as he was working in the open kitchen a few feet from us. He gave us good hiking tips. Phenomenal French press coffee. We requested and they dished up a veg version of the English breakfast, which was lovely and nicely tailored to our tastes, and a sweetly delicious French toast. All in all pleasurably unconventional, tasty, fun and priced as expected. I’d go back.

$ 14 for a mimosa smaller than my knife, omelette barely had any cheese, waitress forgot our order of donuts and they were still on the bill. We had them taken off and she gave us 2 to go. We spent $ 60 on food that was only just ok and left the place still hungry. Won’t be returning.

Drove from Stamford to Sugar & Olives for brunch because a few of my friends recommended. You could easily miss this place and wouldn’t have thought that it is a restaurant during winter season. Buildings around there just feel very industrial to me. Restaurant sign was a bit hard to notice, but there are a few parking spots so that is a plus. When we first walked in, my first thought was. hmm? interesting setup/space. You will be greeted with a big space with product(coffee and such) for sales. then as you walked in a bit further, there’s an open kitchen, several long tables, and couches where you can enjoy your meal from there. We were the first to step in for brunch at 10am. The place was still chilly from a cold morning because we got a table next to a window. We waited for a few minutes for their fresh printed menu(as they seem to be changing menu often depends on what’s available from local market). We asked for coffee right away to warm ourselves up … mmmmm … good(french pressed) coffee! As we looked through our menu, a few things excited me. But also, I slowly felt like I was being transformed into having brunch at a local farmer’s house which was kind of cozy and cool, with an exception of loud music coming from a speaker right behind me. THEENGLISHBREAKFAST — this was good and exciting for a first few bites, then it was just kind of okay. It was duck with sweet potato hash and sunny side up eggs sat on top of the hash with drizzles of sweet chili sauce. Eggs were slightly overcooked. I missed a lot of my runny yolk which would’ve been awesome. DOUGHTNUTPUFF — it was okay. Light and sweet. I would’ve enjoyed it more with my HOT cup of coffee. My coffee was already very cold when the doughtnut arrived to our table. I also had a bite of Grass-Fed Burger. It was good, my partner thoroughly enjoyed it especially with a bacon jam on a bun. SERVICE — could’ve been a lot more attentive considering there were only a few people having brunch. Never once we were asked if we enjoyed our food or need anything else. All in all. it was okay. The place is cute and quaint, but probably not worth 20 mins driving from Stamford. I love that they are using local ingredients. I’m a big fan. Lastly. one of my petpeeves … walking out of a restaurant smelling like food is a big no no. Air from the vent was being blown at my head the whole time because of where we sat. That didn’t add a plus point to my brunch time here.

Want to love but don’t. Good concept poor execution. High prices, mediocre food, dismal service. I ordered the Hot Cocoa with a «big bouncy marshmallow» parentheses this is good. Well, it was NOTGOOD. It was delivered AFTER I ate my entire rolled egg entrée and with the comments«Sorry, I forgot about this, it’s probably cold». I looked down at the cup and sure enough there was pudding skin covering the surface. Yeah, ew. While I appreciate honesty, I think this delivery falls under the«why the hell did you bring me this? why did you say that?» category. Not once during our meal were we ever asked if our food was ok. It’s not like the place was busy — we were one of two or three tables.

Why aren’t they breaking down the doors to get in here? A very imaginative place with a fine menu and neat quirky space. It is a bit off the beaten track and next to no signage, but for a quiet, flavorful breakfast or lunch it’s well worth the effort to find. Chocolate scones and deviled duck eggs to start.

This restaurant had a very spacious interior but a very limited menu. For an organic restaurant, I was expecting more vegetarian and/or vegan options. There were only a few things to choose from including a kale salad without the cheese, a supper salad without the cheese and a quinoa dish.

$ 110 brunch for two that was merely okay… nah, thanks but no thanks. Last time I went, pastries were heavenly. This time, though still homemade, they weren’t warm with angels and fairies dancing around them. The dime sized butter coin received left me wanting more. The jam was delicious though. Entrees are fine, though if you’re a vegetarian, it can be tricky ordering as you try to dance around the meat centric menu. Kudos to real maple syrup being served. Our bill was enhanced by two drinks each. The Bloody Mary truly was the best ever but the faux mimosa was merely ok /no orange juice in it but Thompsons liqueur instead. No rush to return whatsoever. Though I wish them the best with the interesting non-cookie cutter concept. Love the ingenuity. Also, very very pleased it was a more adult crowd vs. in the past when kids ran around screaming while their yuppie parents looked on thinking such behavior was cute. I was craving a mimosa so badly, we actually went to the Black Duck afterwards to drink and ended up ordering more food.

What a great place when open. I have to say we have tried to come to Sugar and Olives 2 other times and they were closed both times. Once in the door we were happy campers. We walked into a really cool open kitchen, shared tables kind of space. We were asked if we wanted a couch or table. We opted for a table! We were sat at the end of a 6 seater which was cool. We were the 3rd party to sit on a Saturday around 10:30am. So it was kind of empty. Although when leaving it was filling up! A very nice lady came over and helped us right away. I ordered a passion pear tea. My boyfriend ordered a coffee. Both came out quick. I was really surprised to see a french press holding his coffee. Really cool. We were looking over the menu, although very small, yet still couldn’t decided. I ended up with a crêpe full with the good stuff. Really. that is what it said. LOL. It was filled with sun dried tomatoes, and lots of other really yummy veggies. We also got the farmers bowl(??), it was sweet potato hash with 2 duck eggs on top. It look delightful! We didn’t really want to head out right away and saw a chocolate scone go by, so we order one for ourselves! It was good. It was a nice relaxing morning brunch! The space it’s self is amazing. I would LOVE to hold a big party there. I could see this place being great for a birthday dinner too!
