They closed recently… just goes to show bad service and bad food do not make a good eating place!

Tastey burger. Great meat. Avocado n bacon highly recommended. Their smash fries r nice too.

I have been here twice and had two different experiences. The first time, my crispy chicken sandwich was a little overcooked and my sensitive stomach did not agree with anything else I ate there. Scared to try it again, I did and got the same thing but this time the chicken was crispy and pull-​apart delicious. The milkshake was thick and creamy and got the left overs from the tin. However, the reason why I give this place a bump up from 3 to 4 stars is because of the young lady at the front who had a pony tail kind-​of on the top of her head. As I was eating, a women who was blind and two disabled men in wheel chairs came and she help them to their own specific needs to acquire what they desired. She got the blind women a soda for her and helped her to the front door, giving her specific directions. She also took her time and listened patiently and intently to the two gentle who had slurred slowed speech. When she took my order, I couldn’t help but to smile due to her great upbeat personality regardless of who walked through the door. Great employee!

Just made my first visit Wed, I ordered the the original burger, with grilled onions, no ketchup since it came with a spread, to go. I got an order of fries, with rosemary, free with a coupon.
My burger came with raw red onions too, which I did not want, hence the grilled. I thought the quality of the burger, bun & especially the pickles was great. The grilled flavor was fresh, juicy!
The fries are skinny, so they cool down quick, I prefer a little thicker fry, but the flavor was good. The only thing I would prefer to see is an eco container for the burger, it came in a plastic clam shell. Out the door price was reasonable at just under 6 bucks. They have a full menu of burgers and I would like to try the Bay burger next time. Given the choice, if In & Out were near, I would choose them for quality & price, but the place isn’t bad. I would return out of convenience.

The worst burger I ever had!!! We couldn’t even finish it. Tasted like pure grease. Customer service was horrible as well. The girl had a chip on your shoulder.

Usually I try to eat someplace a few times before I write a review. I’m not sure I’ll be back this time.
The good: they have a varied menu.
Details: in my opinion, any burger place needs to nail the fries. They are basic. Burgers all have different styles. Fries define a burger place and need to be excellent. SmashBurgers are not. Thin cut which means they get cold very fast. They don’t taste real. They very well could be, maybe it’s the cooking technique, but the taste is not what I consider potato.
In the wrapping, the burger is soggy. The taste, otherwise was ok. Not outstanding. But not terrible.
Many burger places seem to think its ok to skimp on quality ingredients. Instead, concentrating on the ‘fun’. And, after all, it’s just a burger. Smash may fit that model. Food quality is not a the priority, it seems.
For us, this is a «skip it». There are better places for your burger fix. There is an In-​n-​Out Burger, and best of all, a Super Duper in Novato.

We’ve eaten here many times in the past year. The menu options are great. I have to wonder about the complaints, we have had great service over and over again, no errors in our orders. The salads are fantastic. There is probably only 3 oz of chicken in their $ 7 salad but that is fine with me. After eating once (and NEVER again) at *hi* Fil A and getting 1 oz of meat in an $ 8.50 heap of lettuce, this place is a bargain.
I love the burgers they come up with, lots of interesting flavors and combinations. The chipotle dressing is amazing. That puts it ahead of The Habit.
For the price, you cannot do better in this town.

Closes in 47 minutes according to everything online and the sign on the door. Walk in and everyone looks at you like you spoiled Christmas. Heading to in and out to get our late night fix. If you’re posted as open until 10 a 9:13 pm visitor shouldn’t be made to feel uncomfortable.

Go to Burger King, they’re way better. The people who make the food look frightening/​unsavory. They get the order, wrong and put onion bottoms (near the root) into the salad and don’t give you any salad dressing and get mad at you because you don’t ask for salad dressing on your salad. I’ve never been served salad without salad dressing. The burger looks kiddie size and costs about eight dollars with the tax. Avoid this place; trans fats in their shakes and oil will give a person a coronary. McDonalds is a better option also.

Terrible take out service. Ordered online via their website. Food was not ready at specified time and they didn’t include the drinks ordered. Left condiments that are burger specific off, completely ruining the meal. Of course we didn’t figure any of this out until we got home. Not worth driving back since everyone is hungry. Not sure if we’ll ever try ordering through the website again.

New to Novato so I checked this place out. Ordered online which was easy and quick however when I picked it up 10 minutes later it was already cold. «Smash» Fries are the worst fries I’ve ever tried, oil poured out of the box and they were cold. If that weren’t enough, I was missing onion rings (which they charged me for). I’ll never step foot in this place again. Absolutely terrible.

The vegetarian bean burger is nothing special. The fries are pretty great though. The spinach and goat cheese salad was way too small for $ 6 and they messed up my order to top it off.

Came in on Saturday evening and was helped by «Ana». She was not welcoming, not friendly, and brusque. I observed her treat other customers the same way.

We had heard a lot of folks talking about Smashburger and were looking forward to checking it out. I have to say we were disappointed.
We ordered two «large» burgers and decided to share a large fries, calling the burgers «large» was a complete joke (especially considering the prices)! The flavor was adequate, but not worthy of the descriptions, the fries were way too thin and had very little flavor at all.
After spending nearly $ 30,00, I found myself looking at the McDonalds next door and thinking we should have just gone there. If I was starving, passing a Smashburger, I might consider going in. Otherwise, this will NEVER be a destination we will head towards with any anticipation.

Enough! I like to smash these burgers to smithereens because they have no place in my stomach as the meat seem to be loaded with grease. I would not be surprised if they use the patties to clean the grease off the grill like a sponge before placing them on the bun which explains the bottom soak bag after I reached my destination for orders to go. I don’t mind that as much as my passenger seat having a taste of it too but at least they had put enough napkins in the bag under my burger to minimize it or it would have been worse. I didn’t even ask for extra napkins so maybe they already knew.
I’m sure grease it is a preference to some because there are people who love it which can be considered as a juicy burger and this establishment is catering to those so I do understand. It just that I’m not one of them as I prefer my burgers chargrilled so any grease would drip onto the flames.
I have noticed the staff here can be professional on one visit and unprofessional the next which I will not go into out of respect since I don’t think they are doing it intentionally but just lack of proper training if any from management.
Well I don’t think I need to reflect what my Truffle Mushroom and Swiss taste like since we already know by now what I think of grease. If this review sound like a rant, my apologies as it wasn’t meant to be.

Average service, friendly teens man the front with usual teen mistakes. Got my food five mins after it was already ready. Sorry for the wait. Oh hi.
The food however is kick ass had the truffle burger with bacon.
Premium toppings are listed as being $ 1 extra, but don’t forget the tax, Lord help us so it’s actually $ 1.29. (–_​-​)
+ regular smash fries and butterfingers shake = $ 16 and change ouch.
But very worth it. well seasoned burger my fave fries hands down better than anywhere else. Period. Soft, little crunch same texture beginning to end. Even when cold. Very flavorful.

Stopped here on the way home from a camping trip on the coast. We were surprised to see smash burger in novato, and considering how good the burgers are in Sacramento we stopped in.
Quite a disappointment. We understand that it’s the bay area and costs are higher. We didn’t expect the portions to be considerably smaller than in Sacramento.
I went for the lcal recipe: bay and went for the big smash. After I received the burger, i immediately took it to the cashier to confirm I got the big burger. Got the affirmative.
I’d hate to see what the regular burger looks like. Anyway, any Sacramento smash puts this place to shame, and on future trips we won’t revisit this location. Overall, the burger tasted ‘okay’ and the remainder bun left me reminiscing on the old ‘where the beef’ ad of the early 80s. Made me feel like a real schmuck for paying what I did.

I Iike how well I am treated when I come in every time, the staff has been friendly and I can tell they get along with one another because employees stop in on days off.
I like the regular french fries a lot, they are thin and crispy and very enjoyable and I’ve been getting the SmashChicken Sandwich Crispy until once I mistakenly got the grilled version of their SmashChicken Sando and liked it VERY MUCH ALSO!
Getting ready to try a SmashBurger and just wanted to mention my experience the last half dozen times with ordering SmashChicken Sandos by letting readers of this review know that I’ve encountered only reasons to come back to the joint, such as the Manager taking an Expired Coupon on TWO different occasions and even coming up during one of the check-​ups that have happened at every visit to deliver another coupon to tell me that they appreciate me coming in and offering my feedback.
I like this location and team very much!

We have been going to Smashburger on a weekly basis since it’s been open in Novato. During that time we have seen the service, food and cleanliness decline steadily. On Tuesday September 16, 2014 my daughter and ordered our dinner and sat down. The person serving the food brought my burger first and just kind of tossed it on the table. When I asked about my daughters food he rudely stated «It’s coming» and left. 10 minutes later my daughters chicken fingers showed up. We went to use the mustard on the table and when I opened the top, I found Mustard caked on the lid. Not a little but a gross disgusting cake of mustard which was preventing the top from closing. I grabbed a bottle from the table next to the same thing and ours. Obviously the bottles had not been checked for quite a while. If the table condiments are gross and dirty what must the happening in the kitchen. We won’t be back.

We went for the first time today for an early dinner. Our burgers were perfect. Food was great but did feel like they skimped out on the fries. Love the onions straws & sweet potato fries but the smash fries are exactly like McDonalds fries. The multigrain bun is okay but much prefer the egg bun. Haven’t tried the other options. The avocado club was yummy! Hot dog was decent.
Considering thats its not true table service, the service was quite good. It was early on a Saturday so it wasn’t crowded yet. Our order came correct & promptly. The folks that were bringing out the food were very helpful & generous.
I hope this place does well & grows into a larger Novato location.

I’ve been here twice, once the first week they opened, and because it was so bad, I decided not to write a review, however, I went a few weeks ago, and it was much better.
I ordered a burger with avocado and bacon — I asked first if the bacon was actually cooked on the grill or in the microwave, the girl at the counter said «in the oven» which I should have realized meant «microwave oven»
The burger was done just right, I was bummed about the gross bacon, but that’s kind of the norm these days. I also ordered sweet potato fries but got regular instead, which were a good portion,
Good food, and the service was okay, it was a little pricey.
They still aren’t in the grove of things, but in time, they’ll either sink or soar!
