I have been eating here for a least 13 years. We go two to three times a year. I have been to every Japanese steakhouses in town and this one by far is better. I love the fact we can get in without a wait. The service: Was great. The waitress was sweet, very considerate. We ended up being the only two at our table which was a treat ! I liked the fact that the owner came up to our table and talked and asked how we enjoyed our meal. A very nice touch you don’t see in other places . The food: my husband and I got the same thing, the 15 the Japanese Garden Special. It comes with steak, shrimp, chicken. We got the fried rice. The chef was very nice, had a great personality. He helped make a good date night a great one . All of the food was cooked to perfection. The rice was sooo good. Found out that they make all their sauces in house except the soy sauce. No MSG! The ginger dressing for the salad was wonderful. I swear I could eat that stuff on everything. Both of the sauces that came with the meal where perfect. They added to the meal . I will be returning. It is one of my favorite places to good. Almost like a hidden gem. Well worth the money and drive !

This was THEE worst service I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I went out for valentines day, we waited 45 minutes for someone to come to our table to get drink orders after telling the manager. Because of that we received free appetizers with still no drinks. after an hour we finally got our soups and salads and couldn’t get drink refill. s An hour and a half of waiting, our chef comes to the table and drops an egg at my feet and was very sloppy, and didn’t do any of the fancy tricks they normally do. There were about 7 waitresses there but only one girl was covering the entire place while everyone stood around and watched her. I will never go back because of this terrible experience.

I am usually delighted to get to a Japanese Steakhouse; however, this fell short in a few ways. First, we started off in the corner and the waitress didn’t realize we were there so we were kinda forgotten until she brought another family to the table and realized we were there. She profusely apologized and was very nice about it. She brought us the drinks, soup and salad was great. She cut up and made jokes with us. After we were finished with the soup and salad, the chef came out with the food to cook only to realize that the grill was never turned on and so we waited 10 more minutes for that to warm up. We typically pay more for Japanese Steakhouse meals and take ½ home for lunch. This place only served enough for dinner. Secondly, they charged $ 1.75 more if you want fried rice. I’ve never paid more choosing fried rice vs. white rice at any restaurant. Third, this place did not have creamy shrimp sauce. Both sauces were strong and OK in taste. Nothing I want to dip or pour on my food. Our server was very fun and good at what he did. We listened to another server at the table over and he had no Japanese accent and went on about his problems while making the meal at the table. This is not a counseling session, it is a restaurant. Very inappropriate behavior. I am glad we didn’t have him or I would have said something. The food was average and nothing spectacular. My daughter and I shared Sukiyaki Steak and Shrimp Tempura Roll. My husband had the Teriyaki Chicken. The taste was average, but I didn’t care for either of the dipping sauces. Overall, I would not give this Japanese Grill a high score because there are a few things I expected and was disappointed in.

My dad wanted to try something new for a change instead of the usual chains in the area, so he purchased a $ 100 gift certificate to force my mom and I to try it. I’m not a picky eater and usually I can find something enjoyable about whatever I order at a restaurant, but everything that was served to us was absolutely disgusting and a the biggest waste of money since it ended up costing my dad more money than just the gift certificate’s amount. We had the hibatchi food — my mom and I both ordered shrimp and scallops and my dad ordered the steak. The show was entertaining as the man cooked, but all the food off the grill tasted like burnt soy sauce, which was the only thing used to flavor the food. Not even was the salad or soup edible, and there were no free refills. It also wasn’t too enjoyable of an experience sharing the table with strangers who were on the other side. I could never recommend this place, though I haven’t tried their sushi.

Japanese Garden has some of the best sushi you can find in the St. Louis area. The ingredients are fresh, and the sushi chef is top notch. I’m not as big a fan of the Hibatchi Grill side, but that’s rarely what I’m craving anyway. My personal favorites are the spider roll, and the ika(sp?) salad but pretty much anything on the sushi menu is delicious. I’ve been to just about every sushi join in the STL-Metro area and this is the place I come back to time and again.

I’ve eaten here a few times, always at the sushi bar. The sushi’s average for the area, but the service is abysmal. We waited a substantially long time between being seated and receiving drinks, between rounds of refills, and between the end of the meal and receiving our check. The wait staff seemed more eager to chat amongst themselves than to actually work.

One sad thing for me when I lived in the mid-west for school was that it was impossible for me to get good Japanese food unless I was in Chicago. Been here three times not because I wanted to come, but because my friends around this area loves this place. I’d have to say that the food here sucks and it’s expensive! The hibachi steaks here are too damn salty and the ambience is nothing Japanese here. Nobody in this restaurant even knew how to speak Japanese lol. The owner comes to me and says, «The food here is better than what you had in Japan right?» Me being nice, I said yes, but inside I was dumbfounded that the owner seriously believed that this restaurant actually serves good Japanese food(all the workers here needs to take an road trip to Japan). The show is fun to watch(although the show part in a hibachi grill restaurant is an Americanized Japanese thing) but for $ 50 a person, not worth it at all.

Been there twice. Each time gets worse. Yes the show put on by the servers is great but that doesn’t even come close to making up for the very overpriced meal and food so salty you can barely eat it! I have eaten at numerous hibachi grills like this and this is by far the WORST I’ve had. Even my son who eats anything didn’t want to finish my dish. Won’t go back anytime soon, even if someone else buys.

This is a Hibatchi Grill, and its the best entertainment when eating! The cooks will make fun of you, but all for the sake of fun. They can be expensive, so if your not looking to spend much, this isn’t the place to come. The tables sit up to 8 people so for larger groups its not ideal. Kids and adults alike get a kick out of the acrobats of the cooks. I gave this the«Spendy» price range because if you get drinks, your dinner, and possibly an appitizer… you can spend upwards of 45 dollars a person. Thats what I spent. Go early, it will fill up.
