Okay, let’s start with the pros: 1. It’s a fast, efficient, effective workout 2. You’re usually not surrounded by iron clad hard bodies who effortlessly run forty-two miles at mach 1 on the treadmill while you sweat you @ss off on the elliptical for ten minutes 3. It’s all women, and only women Basically, if you don’t want the gym environment but want a place to work out, there ya go. The machines offer some diversity. The music leaves something to be desired, but otherwise… it’s not bad. The cons: 1. If you’re a seasoned athlete, no matter what they tell you, you’ll be better off in a «regular» gym where you can work out at your own pace 2. The sense of community is a little, uh, exclusive. It’s kinda clique-y. With many of said members being a bit too old to maintain a clique-y mentality. When I was an active member, the whole«morning group»(there were five women or so who worked out together) were very exclusive amongst themselves. The poor woman next to me tried to engage a convo with them about six times to no avail. So, yeah. A little weird clique mentality at times. 3. Merchandise pushing. Buy the water bottle! Buy the t-shirt! You need the shoes! An-noy-ing. 4. Weigh ins/measurements. If you have the same person doing it, you’ll probably get some sense of accuracy. If not, forget it. It’s anyone’s guess, really. Overall, I didn’t mind my membership – I enjoyed working out there and brevity of the circuit training – but I quit after a year. Too much money for not enough equipment, imho. I like to be able to «do my own thing» and Curves really isn’t the place for that.
