Gala-Tec

Great experience with Gala-​Tec: I had some voicemails on my iPhone 4S with extremely high sentimental value – they were from a very close lifelong friend who had died suddenly. At some point, my phone had deleted the saved voicemails due to space constraints. Talked to the folks at the Apple store, talked to my phone carrier, and no luck. I thought they were gone forever. And then a miracle: James from Gala Tec came up with the idea of recovering them from a backup file on my laptop (not a Mac). And he did it! This is the kind of stuff you just can’t put a value on.
And by the way, they also gave me very helpful advice on picking out a new Mac laptop for my daughter.
Very knowledgeable, very helpful, very creative in finding solutions and solving problems, and they put the customer first. Highly recommended.

Really terrific customer service. I had an issues with a printer talking to my computer and the owner, Al, told me he would guarantee a solution to the problem. They worked with us until they got it all fixed, even sending their repair guru to the house. Patient, knowlegable, and good to their word. I would HIGHLY recommend working with them! Great to have a local store where a PERSON helps you with technical issues.

I had a terrific experience with Gala Tec. The display on my four year old, out-​of-​warranty Mac book pro had died, and I thought all was lost. Before giving up and junking it, I took my computer to Gala Tec. They diagnosed the problem, did some research with Apple, and determined that the broken part was eligible for a repair, at no charge. The finer points of the warranty issue are lost on me, all I know is less than a week later I had a good-​as-​new computer. For free. Needless to say, this exceeded my expectations! The team at Gala Tec was knowledgeable, professional, and super helpful.

Apple in store and Apple Customer Care were unable to download from my 10 year old iMac to the new iMac just purchased and recommended Gala-​Tec. I must say that James was unbelievably helpful and in just a few minutes took me out of my misery. Easy location to find, a beautiful store and pleasant staff so helpful to this behind the times old guy. My wife is now happy as you can see. Thanks James!!!

I went in to restock the chargers for my iPhone and iPod Touch, which seem to magically disappear. They made sure I bought the correct items and even donated two bags to my church’s reusable bag for the OPRF Food Pantry. The staff is knowledgeable and provides good service, and I hope they become a fixture in Oak Park!

UPDATE:
So… if you read the review you will see that I brought in a computer for repair. They said the drive was unrecoverable and that nothing could be done. Well… WHAT A SHOCKER… wrong answer. Guess their tech guys really are as bad as I thought.
Visited Amazon, purchased a $ 19 cable for my Windows box. Download a FREE program called HFSExplorer. 10 minutes later I started reading the drive. 20 minutes later copy started. Several hours later ALL FILES IN THE USER FOLDER ARE RECOVERED. Let’s see… $ 200 they wanted for the drive. $ 150 for labor, another $ 200 for other repairs (yes they put a leaking battery into the laptop potentially causing further damage) … Hmmm… what would you do? I called BBB and filed a complaint.
To the owner who called me a Schmuck… who is the Schmuck? The guy that did your shops job for $ 20 or the person that provides lousy service?

The store sucks. I would not use them for any repair. The incompetence exudes from the store with a stench second to none.
While here I saw a lady with a meltdown due to the lack of help.
My repair was simple. replace a hard drive. Well.
. Can’t see if that works because the battery didn’t work. Wait can’t test that because the repair of the battery doesn’t work… wait that doesn’t work because the broke the mouse pad. Wait… now I am arguing with some guy that is telling me it will be ready eventually done.
Wow… oh and I’m a schmuck according to the manager or owner.
Apple should be ashamed of this company and remove them from their service network. Truly amateur.
