My sister and I LOVE sushi, particularly raw salmon. We go nuts over sashimi and like to binge eat together since we have similar taste buds. This place is one of the spots my sister and I take our sisterly adventures to. Their prices make our salmon binge eating very doable. My sister and I are sometimes mistaken for twins, but we’re nearly a decade apart in age. It’s a fun time in our lives with our sisterly adventures since I’m the single 20s version of her and she’s the 30s married version of me. While her husband went into the city for beer week, she and I decided to go have BOTTOMLESSSAKESANDHELLLASALMON!(Her husband isn’t really a salmon fan) Anyway, 20 minutes into our sake and salmon feast, my sister goes«oh man I think I’m drunk, I’m just such a lightweight now» I gave her a stink eye look and said«bruh come on don’t act like a freshman girl in college who doesn’t know how to hang…» Anyway her face starts turning pretty red(she gets Asian glow and I don’t, thanks mom and dad!) Whatever, as I’m eating my salmon I’m cracking jokes with my sister and slightly judging her for getting so done so quickly before I could even get a buzz on. I took her home, but anyway, love this place. Good sushi, sashimi is a very good deal, and it’s a place pretty dear to me since it has become one of the places my sister and I typically come together to and have good laughs :-)

BOTTOMLESSSAKI for $ 4(with the purchase of a $ 15 meal). Need I say more? Okay, but to be honest, you’re going for more of the experience than the food. The food is average at best, but not bad by any means. So I definitely recommend going with a group of friends. We didn’t actually meet Coach, but our friends have many times, and say he is an absolute gem. However, the woman working made sure our traditional saki boxes were never empty. When she first brought them, she had us put salt on the corner and take the first sip without hands. Go for the experience, and not the food. Be prepared for a wait though.

I love this place!!! Sushi and food is good, but the experience of the bottomless sake(and the older gentleman who often pours it for you) is what brings me back over and over. Really fun place to get dinner and drinks.

So the sushi was fine… Don’t go there with high hopes on that front. Go for the bottomless matsu box!!! Heck to the yeah!!! Bring your drinking shoes, and order rolls to soak up the sake!

what a difference a few years make. the food was just meh! Ok, but the service was terrible. this is the 2nd time recently that we’ve come to Coach and was either rushed or ignored. and we were $ 2 short of the amount of the bottomless saki, but was unaware, and instead of confidentially telling us, so that we can add an additional item to our tab, the women running the restaurant jogged to our table to tell our waiter that we dont get anymore saki because we didnt pay enough. WTF!!! we could have easily added something to our tab, but at that point we were disgusted. Goodbye Coach. The watered down Saki and bad parking are not worth the bad service. We miss our old Saki guy, where did he go!!!

My wife and I just return from this restaurant this evening and I felt is my duty to warn people out there, that is if you want to waste of your money on very bad services and lousy sushi. This restaurant actually used to be one of our favorite sushi place back in 2011 – 2013. Since we moved to Fremont I haven’t had a chance to go back. until tonight!!! I don’t really know what has changed and went wrong since then, but services and food is as bad as you imagine. We start by ordering hot sake, it taste so sour I thought we were drinking vinegar. I kid you not, I ask the waitress that the sake taste funny and sour, she went off shouting ’ look everyone is drinking and no problem ! … I couldn’t believed, that’s not the way you would talk to customer, but that the response I got, I ask to exchange with beer, they mumbling loudly in the back and made us felt really uncomfortable . I look at my wife and just want to brush thing aside and let’s just order. So we order some combo sushi roll, gyoza, avocado sashimi, tobiko, and tuna sashimi. Everything came out, except tuna sashimi never make it to table. The quality of the items that did made it to the table are not good, not fresh, some smell, so we didn’t bother to remind them that they forgot the tuna sashimi. At this we just want to pay the bill and leave. Definitely we will not be returning forever.

Sushi was decent and the staff was friendly. The«All you can drink» sake was cheap but tasted watered down. Temperature in fish box was 12 degrees above recommended maximum which makes me nervous walking out of here with a stomach full of raw fish.

Went there for a friend’s bday, and they accommodated our group of ~7 fine. The service was okay, but the sushi was subpar. The bottomless sake was the main reason we chose the place, and it was surprisingly good for how cheap it was!

#90 I was craving sushi and so was my companion, so we thought we should stay near the house and have dinner. We walked around the lake to Coach Sushi and they were packed as usual, but never too packed to help us grab a spot at the sushi bar. We started with their famous $ 3.50 sake in a box. Yes, it is ALLYOUCANDRINK. Never a bad deal. We started with a few appetizers: Yakitori Edamame Miso Soup The Yakitori was crazy amazing. Sweet sauce over grilled chicken on a little stick. The edamame was wonderful as well. And, the miso soup was hot, fresh and delicious. After the starters we dove into tons of sushi. I think we had one of almost everything. We ordered nigiri, sushi, sashimi and a few rolls. I always think we will have a bit to take home, but somehow we eat every single bite. No self control when it comes to great sushi. The service is great. Everyone is genuinely nice and accommodating. My only critical comment would be a tiny remodel. It is so dated, and poorly decorated. They really could open up the place and get rid of some of the older looking things, especially over the sushi area. Coach Sushi is in such a trendy location, it would be great for the place to kind of catch up with the gentrification going on around them. Great food, wonderful service. Stephani Smiles for Coach Sushi ;)

–4 stars. Let me explain: 1. Sashimi is old and flavourless. Not fresh. Fish is stringy, smelled fishy, salmon and tuna looked pale. 2. Sake is nothing to rave about. Traditionally the wooden box is used for overflow for the sake cup you have inside it. What’s with this no hands and salt thing?! 3. — the shrimp was beyond awful. It fell apart inside, texture of grittiness. Fresh shrimp should have a bit of crunch texture. 4. Server inexperienced and overcharged for hamachi kama as advertised. $ 120 for $ 40 quality. You can do much better.

Bottomless sake — they will refill your box even if you’ve only had 1 sip so expect to drink if you order the sake.(you’re not required to finish it, but it does sneak up on you) Sushi: they have a board with several items that are special for that day as well as a regular menu. We had the Toro(tuna belly) roll which was pretty good. I would have rather gone for the nigiri version rather than the roll version. The rolls are small(as they’re supposed to be) and actually bite sized, which I appreciated. Ambiance: The place was packed on a Saturday night, but not too loud to the point where you can’t hear the people you’re with. Overall I thought the place was nice and I was pleasantly surprised. I think the quality of the food matches the price. As a Grad student, I don’t have much spending money and I thought it was reasonable to pay $ 20 for dinner, which included the bottomless sake and a little over 20% tip.

This place isn’t top notch, but it’s not bad either. The quality of the sushi is pretty good for the price. You must try the«Love me tender» rolls and the spicy pepper roll. The Love me tender roll is basically cooked tender beef, draped on top of rice with avocado and cucumber. The beef absolutely melts in your mouth! The spicy pepper roll is a tempura battered habanero pepper wrapped into a roll. Beware, this one is super spicy! You can order it either A. Spicy or B. Super Spicy which is what I got. Customer service is pretty good and quick. I will go back here for sure if I am in the area and want to grab a quick bite of sushi! Try the tempura banana for dessert!

I had made a reservation for 7 people two weeks in advance and then updated the reservation to 10 people and then one final update to 12 people when they opened at 5pm yesterday. The lady I spoke with on the phone assured it was«Ok» when I changed my reservation. Our dinner was at 7pm tonight. When we arrived, we got a table set for 10 ppl, not 12; they added two extra chairs without adding another table, so it was really cramped against the wall. They have the bottomless sake, which is why it’s a popular place. Some of us ordered it, and some didn’t. They were fine with that – they have a policy about sharing sake and drinking too fast. We all read and understood it. Next, I ordered first. Two sushi rolls and an appetizer(spicy shrimp tempura). Then everyone else ordered. The drinks and food were coming out – different wait staff brought out the dishes, so they didn’t know who ordered what. They even brought out the wrong dish(shrimp tempura roll instead of the shrimp tempura dinner plate), but I opted to take it since no one else wanted it. They said they’ll get it out, so we waited. I requested for a second glass of water: I asked, «May I have some more water?», and the waitress said, «Yeah, yeah.» What kind of response is that? It was unprofessional and rude. By the way, she didn’t bring me any water; I had to flag down another waitress and asked again. Finally, a third waitress came out and filled my glass. Thank goodness! I had also requested for some Sriracha; again, I didn’t get it until a second request was made. So, we ate our food that arrived and everyone who ordered their sake was drinking it; they came by three times to fill it. The food was good. My appetizer finally came at end, and it wasn’t spicy! I didn’t detect any spiciness at all. I had forgotten about it because it took so long. Then the bill came! However, my friend still didn’t get his shrimp tempura dinner plate! Really?!? The bill comes before all the food is served? Granted, it was busy, but the service was not up to par. They did not pay attention to details. It seems the waitresses were all over the place; they don’t have designated area to tend to. They’re responsible for every table and watch the whole restaurant. Since I came here for a birthday celebration and don’t live in Oakland, I’d probably not go back again. Happy eating if you decide to go.

1 star food. I understand that we came in 20mins prior to closing but when we sat down, two other tables had just sat down as well. We were a party of four. The lady who sat us down was very rude. The first thing she said to us was«it’s last call.» Last call for??? We never found out. We asked if it was OK to still order the sake box and the server was very unsure. She ended saying yes anyways. We put in our orders and when the server came by with our drinks and small plates, she might as well have tossed it at us. She slammed it on the table so hard as if we killed her cat. We felt very unwelcome. We each ordered two rolls. My spicy tuna roll was very good. It had a strong kick I wasn’t expecting. But I would not return to this establishment. If they were going to be rude, they should’ve just turned us away.

our first visit. THe sushi was very good, unique and flavorful. But we sat at the Sushi bar, and had two sushi rollers. the one that prepared ours and he man next to him with circular glasses(older), he kept coughing and making weird noises, right over the sushi he was working on. He would turn to the side and cough openly, with no cover, and neither wore gloves. As good as our sushi was, would not return, Health concerns with this employee.

Came here with some friends for dinner and to try out their bottomless sake. I ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer and the sake oyakodon. The tempura was forgettable; the prawns were limp, the batter neither fluffy nor crisp. However, the salmon in my oyakodon was fresh, and cut in nice thick slices. Our group also enjoyed the sake, which turned out to be very bottomless indeed — no one in our party ever drank fast enough to empty their wooden box, and the man in charge of pouring and refilling everyone’s boxes was very attentive. Some issues with service, including mixed-up orders and overcharging a credit card, were ultimately resolved without incident but nonetheless made an impression. Seating is a bit cramped but the atmosphere inside is fairly cozy. Not a bad place if you’re in the mood for Japanese.

Food was mediocre at best. Seems like most people come for the bottomless sake. I mean, who could say no to $ 3.95 endless sake?! The owner seriously comes around and keeps pouring you drinks… even if you only took a SMALL sip from your cup. Fun place to go with a big group, but not sure about the food. Pretty standard fare for a sushi joint.

If you are looking for a fun drinking experience, Coach Sushi is worth checking out. I came here with a large group and had a great time! After reviewing the menu, my eyes diverted to the Masu sake section — bottomless sake. Bottomless sake was $ 3.75 per person, but I believe you have to spend a minimum of $ 15 in food. The drinking experience starts with a small square cedar box placed on your plate which you can purchase for $ 6 afterwards. You can then decorate the box and leave it there until your next visit. The staff will pour a smooth tasting sake into the box and then guide you into a unique drinking experience. During our dinner, the staff ensured the boxes were never empty. They were quick to refill the sake every chance they had. I ordered the Coach roll which was well made but tasted ok. For the price, I was probably better off ordering a bento box or rice dish. We also ordered chocolate banana tempura and green tea ice cream which was delicious. My friends’ dishes looked hearty and the sashimi was fresh. During our visit, they ran out of ice. I ordered the ‘iced barley tea’ anyway since it was cold and it tasted pretty strong but tasty. They also sell cold soda cans. The Coach sushi staff was very gracious and patient with our group during the random moments where we held up our boxes to cheer to the birthday girl. They have a unisex bathroom in the back and parking is difficult. Overall, I would come back for the drinking experience.

My girlfriends and I came here for my Birthday lunch/drinks and were able to sit right away. Being around 12 noon and on Lakeshore I was surprised on how unbusy they were. After we ordered our drinks and rolls we were not bothered and were able to talk. Being 1 of 2 tables in the place, the other table was already eating, our waitress sat down out drinks and soup but got the«who ordered what» wrong. Usually I don’t care when it’s busy or when you have a large group but being 3 person and it’s not busy it was a little off putting. Once the rolls came out, I ordered a Rainbow Roll and an order of Smoked Salmon Nigiri, I was shocked at how small the roll was. I’ve had bigger veggie rolls! It didn’t have a large variety of fish, which is what a rainbow roll is known for, but only had 2 – 3 types and could have been better crafted. The Nigiri was a good size though and I would order it again. In hindsight I should have just ordered the Nigiri and more of it! I had a Sapporo and when asked if I wanted a small or large I had to ask how big the small was. Thank goodness I picked the small, which was about a 12 ounce bottle, cause we weren’t there that long. I don’t know if I would go back due to the size of the rolls for the price you pay and that it looks a little run down. I read some other reviews and it seems most people go for the $ 4 all you can drink Sake boxes. I guess when you are drunk the rolls don’t look as small?
