I have been going to Gregg’s since I was 15 years old~! He knows me well and has enabled me to get lots of print modeling and acting jobs through the years due to his expertise in cutting.
He’s a good friend and class organization…

Luis at Gregg’s salon is always up on the latest styles. I just got my hair cut and colored for a holiday party and he did such an amazing job. He also feels like such a warm, funny person. Definitely good company. Gregg is frequently there also. Everyone their cares deeply about their craft as evidenced by the attention to detail and their willingness to put time in to get things right. I know Luis attends yearly hair shows to get a current understanding of the industry, styles and tools.

Walked in with dry, damaged hair and split ends, walked out with a great haircut and healthy hair all thanks to fabulous Louis!

Louis is an absolute GENIUS!!! I’ve been going to the same woman for my hair for 7 – 8 years on and off and always thought she did a fine job… until I came to Louis. He’s AMAZING with color. And he doesn’t use the typical harsh chemicals that most hair places use. And on top of that, he can cut. He knows exactly what will look good on you and he’s always right! This is a great spot so I highly recommend it and ESPECIALLY recommend Louis Martinez!

I’ve been letting Louie cut and color my hair for the past 15 years and won’t change because he does such a good job at both. Give him a try!

F this place… $ 80 for what’s basically a trim… cutting my hair at an angle in less than 20 minutes and calling it layered does not justify that B.S. price. One side is flat chopped lines the other is sort of layered but better angled. Then I go to pay and they tell me: oh sorry hun only cash or check. So I have to drive to the bank pull out cash and drive back, the near by ATM was closed. Letting me know on the phone when I made the appointment would have been helpful. NEVER GOING BACK. Also. The hair dresser literally said «I don’t like talking while I give a hair cut becasue I just don’t do as good of a job» then proceeded to run his mouth the whole time while talking to my boyfriend and looking at him as the scissors cut my hair. Nope nope nope. Update. I called to see if someone else could fix this disaster and they would not set up a convenient time for me and wanted the same guy, Loui, that screwed up my hair in the first place to be the one to fix it. No thank you!

This review is long overdue! Louis has been cutting and coloring my hair for about 5 years, and I always look forward to seeing the entire crew at Gregg’s Grand Salon. Louis is professional and kind. He accommodates my crazy schedule and magically finds time to see me, even on short notice. I have thick hair that grows fast, and quickly becomes unmanageable. Each time I go to see Louis I always request something a bit different. Every visit he makes time to give me the perfect cut and, when I ask, recommends appropriate hair products sold in shop. While always professional, Louis is also a thoughtful person who clearly cares about his clients. I highly recommend this salon with its clean, comfortable and friendly environment. And, I highly recommend that you ask for Louis!

Rainbeau is a fantastic stylist! She has done my hair for years and always makes me feel and look beautiful. I have recommended her for others and have seen her bring out their natural beauty. She approaches her work with love and always makes it a refreshing experience to be in her care.

Louis did such a good job on my Bob! He made me feel super confident and I’m so happy with it.
The salon is clean, not cluttered, and very bright.

Update on my hair cut with Louis: It has officially been a little over a month now and i’m still very satisfied with my hair cut, it still looks fresh, feels healthy, and has grown! My hair is curly and takes a long time to grow but I definitely have seen the change just from a month ago!

My family has been going to Louie for years! He’s never let us down. Louie is friendly and considerate and really listens to his customers! I recently moved from Oakland to Santa Cruz and whenever I need a haircut I make the drive to Gregg’s Grand Salon. His work is worth the commute!

Let me start by saying the location is perfect, although parking around the lake can be difficult. My appointment was for 10 am so I was lucky enough to find a space right in front of the salon. The salon is very clean, the music was great and the clientele was mostly «mature» adults. (Seniors). This works for me because I loathe salons full of cackling women. I also loved the racial diversity of the clientele and staff. ALL of the stylists seemed very friendly and professional. It was the perfect atmosphere since it was my first time.
I called Monday for an appointment with Opal and she was able to get me in today without a problem. She got major brownie points for this bc not only do I have the tendency to want my hair done at the last minute but also my schedule varies daily so this was super convenient!
I expressed my anxiety to Ms. Opal and she was very patient and sensitive. I had the same stylist for 10 years prior to moving to the Bay and I’ve just not been able to find someone to care for my hair the way they would care for their own.
Ms. Opal PATIENTLY answered all of my questions and asked me multiple times if I was doing okay (I’m very tender headed). The only negative was that she occasionally used a small tooth comb to detangle my hair and went from root to end instead of end to root.
She helped me decide what was best for my hair, styled it the way I wanted it and booked my next appointment! Others pros:
1. She didn’t go back and forth between my hair and other clients.
2. She is super friendly and funny
3. Reasonably priced for the bay (I’m from the south where everything is cheap)
4. My hair looks and feels amazing
During the detangling I convinced myself I wouldn’t go back, but after I saw how gorgeous my hair looked I decided that Ms. Opal is my new go to!!! Next time I’ll just ask her if she can go end to root and use a wide tooth comb to cut back on the breakage and tangles.

There is a hairstylist they’re called Rainbow. She always cut my hair pretty good. Typically I’d come in a few weeks after my cut and get my sideburns and neck trimmed between haircuts. The day before New Year’s Eve I went in there and she absolutely botched my hair right before a party and refused to fix it. I just wanted my sideburns trimmed she cut it very short on the sides and left it all long and fluffy on the top It looked like a disaster. And refused to clean it up before New Year’s Eve. Unbelievable poor customer service. Then she made excuses for why she did it.

This review is for Louis. The salon in general is great but damn, can that man cut hair! I have been to so many different stylists throughout the years I can’t even count. I mostly go with a fairly simple long layered cut, but Louis worked some extra magic. It looked good when I left the salon but now, two months later, I still have people asking me almost every day if I just got my hair cut because it looks so good. And believe me, I do not have styling skills, so the cut is doing all the work. My hair is a giant, curly, frizzy mess and Louis managed to make it happy. Thanks Louis! I’ll see you again soon :)

Louis Martinez is simply the best hair stylist and colorist I’ve ever known. I’ve been seeing him for more than 6 years, and every time I leave his salon my hair looks fabulous. I call him the hair genius: no matter what it looks like when I walk in – roots, split ends, etc. – when I walk out, my hair is gorgeous, shining, silky, and beautifully colored. Louis uses an European brand of hair color that doesn’t damage hair, it actually makes your hair healthier, and it shows.
Louis is a consumate pro – he can color the roots, put in highlights, and cut my hair in less than an hour and a half – yet he’s also an artist, with the finest color sensibility of any stylist I’ve ever met. He understands how to create customized color that perfectly complements your skin tones. I always feel like a princess when I leave here, and get compliments on my hair all the time.
Louis has also styled my 80-​year-​old mother’s hair when she visits, and made her look beautiful, too. In addition, he’s a lovely person – kind, considerate, and sweet. As long as Louis’s in business, this is where I’ll be getting my hair done. He well deserves the five-​star rating. In 6 years, I’ve never had a «bad hair day» here. Highly recommended!

I have been going to Louie, at Gregg’s Salon for over a decade and love him! I get in, get out and always walk away happy! Louie has a lot of ideas and makes you feel confident when you get in the chair. Plus he’s a great guy too! I highly recommend the salon and love how convenient it is!

Rainbeau is seriously a hair genius. I’m pretty protective of my hair and am super picky about hairdressers as a result. I had a pretty particular request that would require a lot of work and she was awesome about explaining everything to me and making sure I knew what I was getting myself into. And boy did she deliver.
Plus, the color/​highlights/​cut I had done looks AMAZING even after growing out over the last 4 months. Plus she’s hilarious and really caters to you to make it a relaxing experience.
Can’t recommend Rainbeau enough!

Had my hair cut and highlights by Louis. He did a super nice job, I really love it. Only thing is they only take cash or check so I had to run home to get some. Good spot! I’ll be back :)

I saw Luis on the strong recommendation of my boyfriend. He also got his hair cut today, and I am not kidding when I say we both left there much foxier than we went in.
I knew what I wanted and brought pictures, and Luis consulted both me and the photos repeatedly, all the while being charming and gentle. I don’t know how he managed to wash my hair without getting any water in my ears. He’s a pure professional.
My boyfriend didn’t have a plan and just let Luis do what he wanted. Good choice! We both left super happy with our hair and our experience there.
Totally recommend Luis, and the salon. The owner is super personable and interested in seeing that your hair is high quality and pleasing to you.

Rainbeau is a rock star! She makes everyone hotter than they would normally be. Love my haircuts! Plus, the salon is super friendly and pretty with a great view of the lake. I highly recommend everyone make an appointment with Rainbeau ASAP!!!
